Oh I just loved the sound of this one. A thrilling opener,well written and full of promise to be an exciting read. I'm left wanting more. Can't wait for the full version.

UI thoroughly enjoyed the sampler of The Marsh King's Daughter. It has a haunting quality, you just know this is going to be a fascinating story. The writing is excellent, Karen Dionne can create a vivid picture in your mind with just a few well chosen words. A satisfying beginning.

Only read the first chapter sent as a sampler. Will definitely be buying the book when available. Prologue is the main character in a conversation with you, the reader, and then Chapter sets the scene and describes the family. Excellent start!

I've read only part of the sampler, but I can see this isn't a book for me, so I won't rate it. I'm sure it will find plenty of fans without my spoiling the fun.

Really enjoyed the first chapter. Was totally hooked from the beginning and really want to read more, I was left with a cliffhanger. I have to know more about the Marsh King and his daughter.

This is only a sample but omg how fantastic was it. I was so disappointed when the sampler ended and absolutely can't wait to read the full book, it's going to be amazing.

The first chapter hooked me immediately and I can't wait to read the rest of the novel. It's hauntingly atmospheric with a brilliant premise.

This sample gives just enough of a taste of what's to come to tantalise the reading taste buds. We get a few hints of what's to come: finding out more about what happened to Helena's mother, Helena's own unconventional childhood and why her father threatens her future and that of her children. Definitely has all the ingredients of an enticing thriller.

I must start by saying that this is just the review of the sampler - first chapter only..
This author captivates the reader within the first chapter ending with such a show stopping sentence; what is going to come next is unimaginable. . All I can say is I stopped reading and all I wanted to do is to carry on reading. Not many authors manage to draw the reader in so quickly that they do not want to put the book down by the end of the first chapter. I look forward to reading the whole book now to find out what is going to happen next. A first class author. and one of which I am looking forward to reading her other psychological thrillers. Highly recommended.

Riveting opening. The full book is now on my "must read" list!

In the little bit of a preview I received in this version it was really good to the point I nearly threw my tablet in frustration when I realized there wasn't any more there. I'm hoping to get the rest of the book because I really need to see where this story is going.

I have been itching to read this book since I first heard about it months ago so was delighted to be able to sample its opening pages! They didn't disappoint! The prose has a lilting almost lyrical feel to it which lulls you into a feeling of serenity before the news of The Marsh Kings escape hits you at full force.

My interest is well and truly piqued and I can not wait to read the full title!

Wowser - what a cliffhanger to end on! Thank you for the opportunity to read this sampler. It was well-written, totally compelling and completely intriguing; I can't wait to see where it goes next!

Interesting premise, like a sequel to Room - but this sampler is too short to really get a feel for it. Too much faff about jam-making and the meat of the tale is only flagged at the sampler end. I'd be worried that the narrator is too domesticated to make this of interest...

The introduction here tells us that Helena has been held captive for years as a child - I'm interested. Into the main story and there is a simplicity to the writing in the chapter in this sampler with Helena doing deliveries and looking after her daughter. Here is warmth and comfort and everyday life And then - the news comes on the radio that Helena's abductor when she was a child has escaped from prison. I can't see anyone not wanting to continue reading a story with this as the starter.

After sampling this book and reading the single chapter, wish I hadn't because I just want more! The story seems really exciting and I can tell that much more about Helenas past is to be revealed. Going to be a great read when the full book is available 👍👍
