This has been sitting in my to read pile for some time and I decided to finally opick it up and boy am I glad I did. The story starts by looking back in time to the loves of Samantha and Charlotte (Charlie) Quinn. Their Dad Rusty is a lawyer well known around town as he defends murders and rapists , and their mother Gamma is very unique but a doting and loving Mother. What happens to the family on night years ago leaves their Mother dead and the two girls devastated and traumatised.

Fast forward nearly 30 years later and we see Charlie still living near to her father and working as a defence lawyer. Something bad then happens to Charlie and she is literally catterpaulted into a horrendous situation which not only affects her, but the town she lives in and the people living there. I admit the first quarter of the book I was trying to get to grips with everything going on but as each element of the story unfolded I became utterly absorbed in the book and literally couldn't stop reading. This truly does pack a punch and seems to pack suspense, drama, fear, adrenaline and sadness all into one story!

This story itself is pretty complex but is done in such a way that you are completely invested in the characters and their own battles that emerge. I can honestly say this was an exceptionally good read and one that I finished and was left wanting more. I sincerely hope we get to see these characters again as they were quitre simply amazing!

Firstly sincerest apologies to the publishers and NetGalley who granted me an ARC in return for a unbiased review and although I read and thoroughly enjoyed this publication some six years ago I completely forgot to add a review on NetGalley.
Whilst reviewing titles on Net Galley I discover this the other week and decided to re-read it again.
Can honestly say it was even better, if possible. second time around.
Set some twenty eight years after the murder of their mother, the near murder of one sister and the brutal rape of the other, the younger sister witnesses a shooting of a teacher and an eight year old female pupil.
I won't spoil the story any further, but strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride told in the fashion only Ms Slaughter can

I’m a big Karin Slaughter fan and have read most of her books. I always devour them, finding myself hooked, and The Good Daughter was no different. In fact, The Good Daughter is one of my favourite Karin Slaughter reads. It’s a strong four-point-five-star rating, one that will stay with me long after finishing.

The Good Daughter is more than just your average crime thriller from Karin Slaughter. It certainly has the classic elements to it, but it’s also much more. It’s a look at society, at right and wrong. It looks at how small things can change our life, at the choices we make and the things we experience. It’s a look at the relationships we have, the way things are intertwined. Mostly, it’s a story that will hook you in countless ways. Both the past and the present of the story, the truth and the lies, the good and the bad, all will hook you. You’ll fall in love with characters, you’ll hate characters, and you’ll constantly be second-guessing the information you’ve been given.

With there being so much to this one, it’s hard to write up a detailed review without giving spoilers. Just know, there is a lot to enjoy with this one. It will have you on the edge of your seat about countless elements, and there are twists you will not see coming. There will be some elements you work out, but some are complete shockers. All in all, it makes for a book that pulls at all your emotions.

Without a doubt, Karin Slaughter gave us another winner with The Good Daughter.

This failed to live up to my expectations, sadly. Too much jumping back and forwards, not exactly a thriller and it failed to keep my attention. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

‘The Good Daughter’ follows two sisters 28 years after they witnessed the shocking murder of their mother. This book is dark and descriptive. Karin Slaughter goes where most authors are afraid to. Great read and I recommend.

Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read this. I bought my own copy as well. A little late to the party.

This is my first Karin Slaughter, but not my last. I've since bought my own copy of this one, and even though there are two series to read from Karin Slaughter, I would love more Charlie and Sam books! I have the prequel novella on my list.

A good read albeit a bit padded out for me in parts. Loved the twists and turns when they came. I expected better from this author.

Slaughter is an outstanding writer. She sucker-punches the reader into a rollercoaster ride full of emotion with a sprinkle of horrifying mystery. This book does not disappoint, just like all her others.

This is an excellent novel. It is a stand-alone story so if you have not previously read any of Karin Slaughter's work don't worry there is nothing to catch up with, no need to know background standing in the way of simply enjoying this fantastic novel.

This is a powerful story, defining the meaning of good and evil. Questioning the deeper motives of people and examining the reasons why people do as they do.

The same set of circumstances viewed by different people can have very different outcomes. As a reader, it is necessary to be paying close attention to the smallest of detail in this closely plotted story but the reward is a total involving, thoroughly gripping novel which lingers in the mind a long time after reading it is finished.

had never read Karin Slaughter’s books and she writes for the genre I enjoy most, so I was very disappointed with this read.

I wanted to be gripped, I wanted a page turning thriller I could not stop reading until I finished it and sadly, that was not the case.

For those of you that haven’t read a Karin Slaughter novel yet, a word of warning: This author has no problem getting down and dirty in her scenes, most of which involve some sort of crime or violent act. I know that some readers don’t specifically like the graphic nature of her writing, and some people battle with it, but I’ve always been totally fine with it, reason being that I feel it draws me into the story. The author wants you to feel upset, to feel angry and to feel slightly grossed out. If the author wasn’t graphic, then the reader may not feel the depth of emotion that’s needed to truly connect with the story. So, take this as a warning - this book is no different and the opening chapter is hair-raising. And it doesn’t stop there. There are a couple of scenes during the book that will make your blood run cold.

As for the story itself, it’s enticingly dark and depraved on the one hand, and then emotional and tender on the other. Ultimately, this is the story of two sisters who having lost touch with each other over the past 28 years, are brought back together after a school shooting during which two innocent people are killed. The sisters need to come together for the sake of their father, a well-known (if not somewhat disliked) public defender, and in so doing, they also need to face the extremely traumatizing event that happened to them as teenagers, one that ripped their family apart and left them both with deep emotional and physical scars.

This is an intense novel. Some of the scenes…whew…they were most definitely intense, but oh so good, and oh so gripping. This novel is dark and somewhat brutal, but I also loved the very human element to the story, one that highlights the relationship between 3 scarred individuals who love each other deeply, but who need to find a way back to each other. If I have any criticism of this novel, it’s that the middle section of the book did drag just a little. There was possibly more “filler” than there needed to be, and the whole novel could have done with some editing to perhaps cut out some of the fluff. But in the whole scheme of things, this is a small criticism.

I loved this story, and I thoroughly enjoyed this read. If you’re in the mood for a heard hitting, dark thriller with a very human element, please pick this one up. It’s another cracker from this great author.

I've never read anything by Karin Slaughter but this was a frenzied introduction! The Good Daughter is very gory and Slaughter created so much tension it was impossible to turn away from this story!

Went through a phase of getting "read now" books that sounded vaguely interesting. Never got around to reading this one.

Sam and Charlotte's dad tackles the cases no one else wants. Hes got a reputation for winning cases but doesnt mean they're innocent. His family is soon caught up in this when a horrific tragedy occurs. Years later can the family sort themselves out to figure out another murder.

This was a really interesting story. Its a bit of a slog at times but worth it for the clever twist at the end. I never saw it coming though I did start to figure out the other murder. The plot builds slowly to a very well written ending. The characters are interesting and I think Ben was actually my favourite despite his smaller role. The story jumps from past to present but it's easy to follow. A good thriller.

The Good Daughter, although violent and graphic at times, is a rich and enjoyable read. As with many of her other novels, Slaughter really manages to delve deeply into the characters and the complex relationships between them; this book is intense, but in the best way possible. Slaughter's writing will have you feeling every emotion; the good and the bad. Crime writing at its finest!

An often graphic novel split between different time periods of the lives of two sisters Samantha and Charlotte Quinn after a devastating event. Whilst not as compelling and enthralling as some of her earlier books it was still an enjoyable read with plenty of twists and turns.
