Lily is almost 3 and she doesn't like the dark and knows that she shouldn't answer the door to strangers, so when she wakes up alone with no mummy, she cries (a lot) but then she doesn't really like crying either. We are firstly introduced to little Lily who is alone and has to fend for herself, but still follow what mummy has taught her.
All the while, a woman is rushed to hospital with no id, no clue who she is and no signs of her waking up - time could be running out for everyone involved. The woman downstairs from Lily has noticed their is a lot more noise than usual, more crying - but who is she to interfere?
Meanwhile families are falling out - relationships are strained, and still - a woman lays in a hospital bed with her dreams and Lily is getting colder, hungrier and she doesn't know what to do.
Lily Alone is a gripping, thriller of a read that is fast paced and hooked me in from the first page. We meet a while variety of characters each of whom are all key players in the narrative, and as we move forward we learn more about all of them, how their de
cisions in haste have affected all their lives, some in more drastic ways than others - but all of them somehow.
Vivien has a wonderful writing style that for me was similar to that of Diane Chamberlain, an event happens - and then we work back to what actually happened whilst discovering the characters and what led them to the situations they are in. This was a breathe of fresh air and more relatable than some of the more far fetched thrillers, how one decision really can impact so much more.
Whilst i kind of expected parts of it, the way it was written kept me gripped enough to be interested and learn the circumstances. I would reccomend this book as a fast thrilling read without the complications of some of the heavier reads and i cannot wait to discover what else Vivien has to offer

Just............wow! Fantastic!! I will totally be watching for more by this author! Just a gripping read!

I tried to enjoy this book because it had a story that sounded interesting and I liked the way the characters took a chapter each at a time but I'm afraid I just couldn't feel any tension and it really should ha e been tense given the subject matter.
I think the germ of a good book was there but somehow it lost its way.

Thanks Netgalley, Bookouture and the publisher. A truly gripping story. My heart was breaking and I was in tears in parts. I definitely recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher. I was not sure about this book and thought I would be upset with the story line but I was very wrong. This is not a thriller just a very very good book.

I wasn't sure about reading Lily Alone when I read the blurb as I thought it might be a little disturbing. Lily is almost three years old and she wakes up one day with her Mum no where to be seen. When her Mum doesn't come home Lily begins to get scared. A lady is rushed to hospital after a hit and run accident with no ID on her. In a coma, no-one makes the connection to begin with that she is Lily's Mum, or that Lily even exists.
We read about Lily's journey on her own, will she be found in time? The book was an easy read, and whilst I can't say enjoyable because of the subject matter, it was well written and I enjoyed the book. I did feel the ending was a little flat however.

Great read! Looking forward to reading more by this author! Highly recommend!

This is completely gripping and has you on the edge of your seat throughout. At points the book is absolutely heartbreaking and had me crying my eyes out. Fantastic!

Lily Alone was a great book that was hard to put down.
Ruby and Lily live alone, Ruby leaves Lily on her own and is then involved in a hit and run leaving her unconscious, Lily does not understand why her mum has left her, she's lonely and hungry, what should she do.
A great book I enjoyed reading.

Absolutely brilliant! It kept me on edge every single page! I highly recommend it.

I had a hard time getting into this book. Since I did not finish it, I do not intend to publish a review.

Great read. Pulls at the heart strings. Sucks you right in and eats you up inside. brings all sorts of emotions. Sad that this type of story unfortunately happens all around the world as people get on with there lives never knowing whats going on next door. Very enjoyable read

As the title states, the book begins with Lily, 3 years old, and alone. A young woman is taken to the hospital, murmuring Lily. An older woman who hardly sees her son feels her life is over. With these and other well-drawn characters, a tale is skillfully woven by Vivien Brown. Well worth the read!

Unfortunately I found this hard going and it jumped around.

One decision made in anger and resentment can change your whole life. That is what Ruby, Lily’s mother, is going to find out and all she can hope that it’s not to late for her or her daughter to get help before it’s too late. This book is not a thriller, if you know that before starting to read the story, it really is a very good read. It’s easy to get pulled into the story of little Lily, alone at home, not knowing why her mum has left her and isn’t coming back. My hear went out to that little girl, not knowing or understanding what to do all by herself. Lonely, hungry and hurting herself. The neighbors not realizing that there is something horrible wrong, going on with their life. Well, this book describes some of the problems society has today, the not caring, not helping and always ready to judge about anybody. But it also shows that hate and the want for revenge can make you blind and blindside you into doing stupid things. I liked how the story enfold and how the life of the characters are slowly entwining with each other. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK!

The blurb for this novel is very misleading, the reader expects a harrowing story of neglect and probable child abuse. Instead this book is a heartwarming tale of forgiveness, family, regrets, missed opportunities and love.

Lily Alone by Vivien Brown.
What sort of mother would leave her all alone… a gripping and heart-wrenching domestic drama that won’t let you go.
Lily, who is almost three years old, wakes up alone at home with only her cuddly toy for company. She is afraid of the dark, can’t use the phone, and has been told never to open the door to strangers.
But why is Lily alone and why isn’t there anyone who can help her? What about the lonely old woman in the flat upstairs who wonders at the cries from the floor below? Or the grandmother who no longer sees Lily since her parents split up?
All the while a young woman lies in a coma in hospital – no one knows her name or who she is, but in her silent dreams, a little girl is crying for her mummy… and for Lily, time is running out.
Absolutely fantastic read with brilliant characters. I honestly didn't know how I felt as she had her reasons for doing what she did. A moving and emotional read. 5*. Netgalley and harper Collins UK-HARPER impulse.

An emotional family story. The characters are all described very well and I love how the parts involving Lily were written as a three year old would speak. A lovely book.

I found this book compelling reading and couldn’t put it down. Ruby and Lily live alone in a flat where neighbours just nod. Ruby leaves Lily alone and whilst out gets involved in a hit and run and is left unconscious. This means that Lily aged three is left alone. This is the story of how people pull together in tragic circumstances and how it alters the lives of everyone involved. It also shows how one small decision has the power to change lives.
