Medical based romance, with all its human twist and turns. Best one I've read in a long time.

This was a nice easy and engaging read, perfect to dip into of an evening during a busy week. I did feel a few details were a bit rushed though to make the plot fit into the intended shape. Good characters though and the hero was very believeable.

We return to Paddington Children’s Hospital for the second book in this multi-author series. This time it is author; Fiona Lowe’s turn, and I absolutely adored the story she gave Aussie trainee-surgeon Claire Mitchell and sexy but out-of-bounds Neurosurgeon Alistair North.

The entire female staff of the castle might think the man was sex on a stick, but not her…

Except that’s not quite the truth, Claire finds Alistair just as hot as the rest of the staff, but as he is her boss, and she is struggling to keep her head above water in the last few months of her training the last thing she thinks she needs is to be getting involved with the man who could make or break her career.

"There’s a lot to be said for spontaneity…"

Trouble is, Alistair finds Claire just as attractive, and after an unplanned kiss, which then follows onto an unplanned weekend together, they enter into a secret no-strings arrangement. Although the no-strings aspect seems to disintegrate pretty quickly as their feelings (although denied) deepen for each other.

"Stepping out of your comfort zone every now and then makes feel alive."

As it turns out Claire isn’t the only one keeping secrets, and I liked that both characters were dealing with their own vulnerabilities, there is nothing I like more than reading a couple falling in love, before they even get to the point of realizing that is what has happened themselves, and the author delivered up their story perfectly.

I really enjoyed this book, and the epilogue actually bought a little tear to my eye. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the books in the series.

It’s been ages since I last read a real medical romance and this was a great way to get back into things. A sexy, playboy surgeon and the serious, smart woman who is training under him, a children’s hospital under threat and a boat load of emotional issues to keep everything interesting.

I liked Claire. She’s Australian and smart and has no time for Alistair’s nonsense. She might seem uptight at times, but she has reasons for the way she handles everything and I loved how she dealt with all the challenges life threw at her.

Alistair is a typical brilliant surgeon with a wild side. He lives for the moment, and again he has his reasons for it, but he also has some serious emotional issues that he refuses to face. Until things with Claire force him to, of course.

I liked them together. Not only because they have great chemistry, but because Alistair was so supportive. They’re both excellent at their jobs, and Alistair is secure enough in his skills not to feel threatened by Claire and instead welcome her as a partner. They’re so good together.

As much as I enjoyed the build of their romance, some of the emotional changes towards the end did seem to happen a bit too quick, and one plot point annoyed me with its typical romance-trope convenience. I would also have loved to have known a bit more about the troubles facing the hospital and that one boy in particular that these two are looking after.

Beyond that, though, this was an enjoyable romance with a medical setting, likeable characters and a nice shot of heat. I look forward to reading more from this series.

I'm a big fan of Medical Romances and I was intrigued by the blurb for this one and overall it was a good story, the characters were interesting, each overcoming personal issues that they've learned to live with, and which they have allowed to shape their lives and attitudes. My only issue with this book was the amount of time the author spent in the characters head. There wasn't much dialogue between characters, and at one point of story someone asked the heroine Claire how she was, their was 3 pages of inner monologue before she answered, and by that point, as a reader you have kind of forgotten the initial question.

I liked the story, characters and settings I just felt the story got bogged down with all the inner thoughts of Claire and Alistair
