Stevie Nicks is a fabulous book about a fabulous lady and performer. If you love Stevie Nicks, you will appreciate this book, which tells the story of a rock legend, warts and all.

This was an informative, interesting, and thorough biography of Stevie, and even though (as someone else pointed out) most of the material is taken from interviews throughout the years, I admire the amount of research that was done.

Stevie's voice is one of a kind and I love her music. I found this book hard to read but also didn't feel that I learnt anything new about her but that maybe because I have already read so much. I think for someone new who doesn't know much about her then this may be for them but there wasn't much I wasn't already aware of.

ANOTHER ROCK STAR BIO
Having been in high school in the seventies there was little chance that I would not be exposed to the music of Fleetwood Mac and singer Stevie Nicks. The lovely Ms. Nicks was adored by millions of fans who thrilled to every note she sang. But as with most rock stars there was another side to the story we saw as one filled with nothing but success.
This book tells us about what went on behind the scenes but unlike most doesn’t fixate on just those years she was with Fleetwood Mac. Certainly a large part of it deals with those years and the problems incurred during that time that followed her after, but it also tells us about what went on before Mac and what happened after with her solo career.
Sadly it felt like the same story we hear far too often. Success yields to exceeding use of drugs and alcohol, a lifestyle of indulgence that takes its toll on the performer in question. Surrounded by people who care but who are also dealing with their own similar issues never results in helping with those issues. It always ends either in tragedy or in forcing oneself to deal with those issues on your own. Nicks did just that, but later in the game than one would have hoped.
While it’s great to read that she survived and was able to come out fairly unscathed the book also feels like it often makes too many excuses for her behavior, as if it was expected of her rather than condemn it outright. It also depicts her as somewhat out of touch with reality like many rock stars with requests for pampering that go beyond the norm. Apparently with wealth and success you can demand any and everything you want and someone will be there to meet your every whim. Perhaps it is this that makes those difficulties occur rather than inner demons set free. That was the take I got from reading this book.
The book flows smoothly taking us from one event to the next, one point of her life to another. You’ll find yourself reading and then moving to the computer to see things discussed like just how stoned she was during the recordings of various things from life performances to music videos. Sadly you’ll also in a roundabout way see the selfish side where career means all going so far as to sacrifice children and marriage. It’s much easier to sleep with people you’re attracted to for a time than commit to just one, easier to abort than to deal with the needs of a child. This is not a condemnation of that lifestyle but a reflection of what is discussed in the book between the lines.
The more books I read about celebrities, in particular rock stars, the less I feel inclined to read them. Each one seems to tell the same story, a rags to riches tale that ends in drug addiction and narcissism. The only difference from one to the next is the end results. Some result in death, some result in losing it all and others, as in the case of Nicks, result in being able to come through scarred but intact. This book is just another in the stories of overindulgent stars who were fortunate enough to have their talents discovered. Interesting if you’re a fan but not one I’d recommend to young people as a learning guide.

Fleetwood Mac was one of those bands that I did not really appreciate growing up but now that I am an adult they are one of my all-time favorite classic rock bands. Though I know their music quite well I knew little about the bandmates themselves and their rocky history until I read the latest Stevie Nicks biography Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams, and Rumors by Zoe Howe.
I personally fell in love with Stevie Nicks when she did her solo album Rock a Little which was released in 1985. Stevie's unique voice and her beauty and fashion sense are something I've always admired. Reading about who she was as a person, where she came from, and the tumultuous journey that she has been on in her music career was something I was very excited about.
I've always heard about her love/hate relationship with Lindsey Buckingham but I never realized the depth! I loved hearing about her start with Fleetwood Mac and the stories behind many of their songs. I wish there would've been more focus on Stevie and her solo career but the author seemed to stick with Stevie and her association with Fleetwood Mac more than anything. Fleetwood Mac is touring this year so I'm sure this biography was a push to get more interest in the band reuniting and the tour itself.
There were many quotes that I did not find cited which I thought was strange and, to be honest, the book was hard to get through for me. It is extremely long and after awhile you feel like the story becomes redundant. I still think the story of Stevie Nicks is fascinating and I plan on picking up Gold Dust Woman by Stephen Davis, which is coming out in November of this year. I hope Davis delves deeper into his subject more than Ms. Howe has.
For someone who has never read anything on Stevie Nicks, or Fleetwood Mac for that matter, I would say this is a decent book to start out with, since the majority of the book is bits and pieces of other articles and interviews. But I do believe this book could've been better.

Interesting book about one of the best selling acts of the 70's from the point of view of one of its members. Would be worthwhile getting the male protagonists point of view.

This book was a great look into the life of Stevie Nicks so far. There were a few parts that were a big frustrating, such as finding out how but Buckingham had to rely on her in order to get his practice in.

Have always enjoyed this music of Stevie Nicks....thanks for sharing her life's story.

Everyone goes through a Fleetwood Mac stage in the life. This is a fact. Don't argue with me on this. Dreams? Everywhere? Tusk? Silver Springs? Come on. There's something for everyone!
Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams & Rumors by Zoë Howe is an exhaustively well- researched about the most famous 'white witch'. Dispelling rumors and providing little known facts, this book starts at Stevie's birth and follow her to current day. From the early days of Buckingham Nicks, to the world famous Fleetwood Mac, to solo albums and reunion tours, it's all there. ALL OF IT IS THERE.
Each chapter starts with 'facts' and concluded with insightful and often very funny footnotes.
Put on your best scarf, light some candles, throw on Rumours and enter the world of Stevie.
Thanks to NetGalley, Zoë Howe and the publisher for this book in exchange for this honest review.

Nothing really new here and it wasn't particularly well written. It's always fun to reminisce about the musical heyday of the 70s and 80s though. And Don Henley.

Despite what you think at first of the style here – a little flippant at times, not exactly academic, you end up liking this book immensely. It reminds you, however deep your fandom of Fleetwood Mac and/or Nicks, of her singular talents and place in one of the biggest bands of the last sixty years (ie ever). It doesn't seem to my novice eyes to have many major flaws or omissions, although John McVie disappears a lot of times, and a fair bit of F-Mac history seems to have been squished to one side – the 'new' songs for the second Greatest Hits, etc. Research brings us all the key interview quotes, with the bonus of British ones I didn't expect. In all it's quite heartfelt and encyclopaedic, and therefore probably just what the doctor ordered. Gold dust, in other words.

I would recommend this for anyone that wants to know the Legend Stevie Nicks. As a fan of Stevie - I would prefer to read something that comes directly from her and not other sources. This isn't a bad book but it's not what I was expecting.

At least 3.5 stars for this look at Stevie Nicks. Written sympathetically, but not glossing over the drugs and affairs. Very interesting!

I went to see Stevie Nicks in concert a few years back and really enjoyed myself so when I saw that there was a biography of hers available for reading, I jumped at the chance to check it out. The book is broken up into 4 parts and has 3 sections of pictures! (Always my favorite part.) One really cool feature with this book is that it has a digital timeline of Stevie's life included as a link. I had never seen something like this before, and it was very interactive and interesting to look through to see the various photos and videos that were included- the way of the future now that the ebook pulled the page right up on my computer to browse through.
Sometimes the chapter mentions what it was going to be about before it started and other times it sort of recapped what happened in the chapter - since I sometimes have a tendency to skim longer biographies at times, I liked this touch. A lot of the information also came from interviews from other publications, which when I was reading some other reviews of the books people said they didn't like that but I always like when actual quotes are included, in a biography it's the closest you can really get to be being an autobiography when you have actual quotes from the artist the book is about.
I absolutely loved the pictures included - Stevie with a beehive as a teenager? Some great shots from shows too are included.
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

I love Stevie Nicks. Adore her. Wanna be here if I ever grow up. I waited and waited for this book to come out, didn't have the money when it did, so requested it from my library.i am Oh-so-glad I got it at the library and didn't BUY it. the book contains mostly stuff any Nicks fan would, and should, already know; it's mostly a record of her love affairs (already knew; don't care), her drug use (DUH), her albums (own em all), and squabbles with Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac (again, already knew). kind of a disappointment; the section called "Belladonna" was the most interesting. I won't go so far as to say I regret reading the book, but I had hoped to get some previously undisclosed information out of it. I may as well have gone back and reread back issues of magazines with this info already in it.

What can one say about Stevie Nicks? She is fierce, intelligent, warm, gentle and a true strong woman. I have read articles about this wonderful entertainer, but nothing like this!! In my opinion, this is the definitive book on Stevie Nicks. Filled with fun facts at the beginning of each chapter, which gives you a glimpse on what you are in store for. There is a lot about her interactions with various stars (never knew she went to bat for Mariah Carey and then spoke to Nikki Minaj). Things like this is in this book. Of course, you get the Fleetwood Mac associations, as well as her past with Lindsey Buckingham. This is a must read for any fan of Stevie Nicks. My favorite AHS:Coven is when Stevie played herself as a "white witch". She still has it. You learn a lot about Stevie Nicks the woman in this book. Very down to earth and this book is a good testament to this wonderful woman. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the advanced reading copy in return for my honest reivew. This book was a pleasure to read!!!!!

I can still hear the hypnotic, thumping bass of "Dreams" blaring out of a car window as I recall walking home from high school on a hot June day in the late seventies. Summer was beckoning and Fleetwood Mac's album "Rumours" ruled the radio. I never was a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, but when "The Mac" reunited in 1997 for their magnificent concert and CD "The Dance," I was more entranced than ever with their unique and emotion-laden songs. I came to realise from interviews at the time that guitarist/vocalist/composer/arranger Lindsey Buckingham and singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks had an intense, broken romance where the embers clearly still glowed. More explosively, she even had an affair with drummer and founding Mac member Mick Fleetwood. Moreover, keyboardist/singer/songwriter Christine McVie was now divorced from bassist John McVie. It was in these complicated circumstances that music reigned and the band played on towards the higher purpose of music. Just knowing these basics was intriguing enough to want to delve into this tome for further knowledge of Ms. Nicks. I wasn't disappointed.
This book traces Nicks' childhood where her musician Grandfather A.J. Nicks inspired her to sing and accompany him on his Country music travels. Stevie soon realized that music was her passion, which was ignited by a chance meeting in a church hall with Lindsey Buckingham. Such is the charming beginning of Ms. Nicks' foray into her decades long and illustrious music career.
The author draws upon two books quite often for first-hand accounts: One being a tell-all from Lindsey Buckingham's girlfriend post Nicks breakup, the other from drummer Mick Fleetwood's autobiography. We learn about Stevie's relationships with several famous musicians, her well-intentioned short-lived marriage, as well as her tendency to fall in love with her record producers.
The author paints an honest picture of an exceptionally talented woman, who becomes famous and gets drawn into the accepted drug culture that the music recording environment at the time promoted. One can understand and sympathise with her descent into this behavior and also applaud her eventual recovery from it.
There is an extensive repertoire of Stevie Nicks' songs, of which their origins are explained in great detail. I can see her now in my mind's eye, running in black or white chiffon, blond locks flowing, to her piano to immediately pour out her soul. Stevie's music is inspired by so much in her life that her songs must dredge up many memories. She is a very prolific writer, and often turned to Lindsey Buckingham to shape them into the final product. This also caused emotional warfare for the duo post-breakup, as they still had to endure each other's presence for the sake of the band.
This book is a treasure trove of stories, history and insight on the life of Stevie Nicks, a charming subject. I keep using that word, but perhaps "charming" is very appropriate for this woman who loves to dress up in flowing dresses, waving her ribbon-festooned tambourine, twirling around in her gold-dusted shawl and waving her hands aloft at the moon. She is the Enchantress, and we are enchanted with her. I have enjoyed reading this book and it has inspired me to read others and watch interviews with her on YouTube. She is a woman of substance and this book succeeded in telling her story.

A definitive guide to the Queen of Rock and Roll . This is a multi faceted read that does encompass the early years which are fascinating to read about. The author has gone to great detail in describing how Stevie became interested in music and how her family supported her goals. It was enjoyable to read about her early success with Fleetwood Mac although the rampant drug use was difficult to take but it was a intimate look at her battle and how she overcame her addictions. .
This has the entire story of Stevie Nicks, from youth to now. It is done with great respect and reverence for Stevie, her personal addiction battles and how she shouldered terrible grief while carrying on during tours and recordings. It is comprehensive and heartfelt. Each chapter starts with a quote and antidote about Stevie which is interesting and fun. As a fan I was struck by the sheer exhaustion of touring , recording and doing press events that is a constant in their lives. The author captures the bank perfectly and Stevie on her personal tours of the 80's, the effort, strength and sheer will it took to accomplish each show.
A wonderful read for all fans. I enjoyed it very much and found it very illuminating to discover the depth and soul of Stevie Nicks. Well done. Thank you for the review copy which did not influence my review. Cross posted to Amazon.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Do you love Stevie Nick's? Read this book!!!! If you don't know Stevie Nick's read this book! Highly recommend.

I have read a few other books about Fleetwood Mac. and this book repeats many of the stories I have read before. I think the author must have read Carol Ann Harris' book. After what seemed like a few hundred pages, I reached the part about Stevie's solo projects and information about her life separate from the group. At that point I became totally absorbed in the book. One thing I really liked about the writing is the way the author occasionally communicated directly with the reader.
I hope someday Stevie Nicks will write an autobiography, but it sounds like she doesn't want to do that.
