That was my first thought when I reached the end of the book. I couldn't believe it -- I've reached the End?! Who won -- Talon or The Order and Rogue Dragons? Or did anyone win? Who is left alive? Now what -- where do we go from here?

Absolutely spectacular. Have loved the whole series and this one didn't disappoint with it twists and turns it kept me enthralled from the very start

This is book 4 of the Talon series, did not read parts 1-3 though so I missed a big part of the ‘hows and whens’ of this story.

I feel this book is well written, even though I do not understand the choice to write this story for young adults. There’s not a lot of quality written books like this one, except the Eragon series, which aim at the fantasy / dragon segment of the market. Therefor I would have liked it probably more if it would have been more for the adult market.
Never the less it was a pleasant and speedy ride with some story lines I did not fully understand but I blame that to not reading the first 3 parts (my bad!).

Legion is the penultimate book of the Talon series by Julia Kagawa, and it's really bringing the action. I feel like so much is packed into this book. It's made me excited to read the final one when it's released.

We finally get to see dragon action in the war-setting that the previous books set up. I just loved the fact that we got to see so many dragons in their actual dragon form. Seeing as I picked these books because of the dragon element I was very happy about this. The one problem was I couldn't picture the dragons sizing properly. So we know Ember and Cobalt are a lot smaller than adults, but I just struggled to picture the different sizes next to one another in scenes. I also struggled with dragons moving similar to humans in the writing. Maybe I skipped over what dragon's look like in this world in the first book? But I was struggling in some scenes to imagine them.

The characters have all developed into these moral yet realistic soldiers. Our main three, Ember, Riley, and Garret have all changed so much from the first book. We finally get an end to the love triangle. Which was well overdue. Which meant there was more of a focus on the (real) problems they face.

We got to actually go inside of Talon bases and find out the things they do. We got to meet different employees and explore the base a bit. The world building around Talon hasn't been great as our POV characters lack a lot of the information. So I really enjoyed Dante's POV's in this book to gain this information with him. It was really interesting to see the differences in what Ember thinks of Dante and what Dante's really like as well.

I got about half way through Legion before I realised what had been bugging me the entire series. Skipped time seems to be an issue. POV characters passed out and awoke in a safe place with barely any explanation. So much could have been done with these gaps of time in other POV's. Especially since there's normally 3 POV characters together.

Overall, this was my favourite book in the series. Being packed full of action, intrigue and interesting plotlines increased the pace. So many characters were around that I actually liked. If you're into YA Fantasy this is recommended.

I'm enjoying this series more than when I started it, but it still isn't my favourite Julie Kagawa series. She's doing really interesting things with the Talon organisation and the clone dragons. I'm especially liking the stuff with Dante. This book especially gave a lot of information on Dante's motivations. It makes sense now as to what he's doing and exactly why he's doing it. I wish he'd get out from Talon's claw, but I can understand his aims and why he thinks he's doing the right thing for both himself and Ember by doing what he's doing.

The thing that's really holding me back from really adoring this series is the love triangle. I am so sick of love triangles in books. They never capture my interest as much as they seem to with everyone else. I thought that we could move on with it after what happened in the last book. And again I'm hoping that it will be put behind us after the things that happened in this book. I really hope so anyway. I just don't care which of them Ember ends up with, all I care about is whether they can defeat Talon and avoid being killed by St. George.

The things with St. George have gotten really interesting in this book though. I can't say much without spoilers, but let's just say that I'm really curious to see what they do in the next book...

Phew, I made it to the end. Kagawa is truly the master of the epic, edge of your seat finale. The ending of the previous book Soldier just about broke me and I thought this one might actually finish me off. She's definitely not one of those authors who shies away from killing off her characters, something I both love and hate.

As this is the fourth book in the series and the previous book had such a big finish it's almost impossible to write a review without spoilers so I'll need to keep this short. The writing is as always excellent and there is plenty of action throughout as well as some real character development. Ember is really growing up and taking control rather than letting her impulses run wild.

This time the story focuses a lot more on Dante and we learn a lot more about his background and relationship with sister Ember. He's one of the most interesting and complex characters in the book so I really enjoyed getting to know him better and gaining a more deeper understanding of his character and why he does what he does. I enjoyed the flashbacks to their childhood so much that I kind of wish there had been more of them but there was so much going on in the story that there probably wasn't time.

The other characters from the previous books are more or less all present and correct and there is plenty of the banter between them that makes this such an enjoyable series. Jade, the eastern Dragon has a much bigger role to play (something I loved) but unfortunately Wes was pushed a little to the sidelines (something I didn't love).

I will admit that I didn't quite enjoy the story as much as in the previous book (there was a certain storyline that I'm just not buying) but I get the feeling that it's building to the fifth and final installment which I think will be truly epic. I both can't wait and am terrified to read it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC. As always all views are my own.

This is the fourth book in the Talon series, and it picks up immediately after the events of Soldier. I was pumped to pick this instalment up because, honestly, I just wanted to see what else Talon had up their sleeves. We have been building up to something big, I know that this book was going to be an explosion.

Just when I thought this series couldn't get any more action packed, Kagawa pulls out a dragon army. This series has grown so much since Talon, the emotional tone is completely different, and it's interesting to see how the characters handle it. This book is about survival and fighting against the odds. Garrett, Ember and Riley are all really serious about what they're doing - to paraphrase High School Musical - they've got their heads in the game.

As for the love triangle: things are really sorting themselves out. By book four you'd expect they're to be some sort of head-way in the choosing of things, and I'm relieved to say that Kagawa is moving forward - at least in one direction! And although I don't think that it's going to last long, I'm really pleased that the conversations Ember had with both boys happened. Romance also took a back-seat in Legion, which was also a pleasant surprise! I really enjoy seeing Ember make decisions and saving herself. At this point, it's the guys that get in trouble and need rescuing!

Okay, so as I've been saying in every review of this series, I really like Dante. I know he's sort of the villain now, but I always thought he needed more air-time in the other books, and I feel like he's finally got what he deserved! His sections in the beginning build a better picture of what Ember and Dante's lives were like as they were training to be part of Talon, and later on he's the guy that gets to talk to the Elder Wyrm and be told very cryptic information about what's in store for the rogues. I feel like even though he's in a grey area he's still got an emotional core, like, you can see that everything he's doing is because he thinks it's the right thing for him and his sister. I appreciate that.

So, the book ends with a 'this is only the beginning' thing, but I have no idea where this can go. It seems like both sides of the battle have pulled out their big guns. Each side has had a hostage situation. There have been deaths. There have been secrets and secrets and even more secrets and WHAT MORE COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN. I need to know!

Legion doesn't stop to take a breath, and whatever happens next, I just know it's gonna be good.

I struggled with this book at first. For Fantasy fans, this book has Dragons which are more similar to the dragons like the Frey in The Invisible Library rather than the creatures in Eragon. I was expecting the latter which you may too by what the cover suggested. That aside, the story however was good which is why I gave it 4/5 stars.

Worth a read.

Oh my what a way to continue this series and with only one book to go it's certainly going to be a humdinger of an ending! This begins right as the last book Soldier ended with Garret bleeding out his life's blood after a cowardly attack. Ember is even more determined to take down Talon but she's definitely caught between a rock and a hard place as her twin Dante seems to have become her enemy. Those of St. George who hunt the Dragons are so blinkered that they can't or won't acknowledge that Rogues such as Ember and Riley could be allies and speaking of allies perhaps it's time to reevaluate old enemies!
Finally with this instalment we find out what the grand master plan of Talon really is and when it comes to Ember it's truly jaw dropping. As if that wasn't enough for the author to throw at us there's the forces that Talon have been gathering ready to finally crush St. George and the humans and chilling is the only word that springs to mind. I'm truly enjoying all the action and twists but do question why yet again in a YA series we have to have a triangle thrust at us? There's a resolution of sorts here but I can't help but think it wasn't really necessary. Still if you want a story that's inventive and gets your heart pounding then this series is certainly up for the job!

Well this is the first time I've ever jumped into a series not in the second book...but in the fourth! But honestly I'm so pleased I gave this book a chance. My intense draconic obsession grows every day. But how did Legion compare to all the other books I've read about my scaly friends, and does this work as a standalone novel or do you really have to have read the other three?

Goodreads Summary:

Dragon hatchling Ember Hill was never prepared to find love at all--dragons do not suffer human emotions--let alone the love of a human and a former dragonslayer, at that. With ex-soldier Garret dying at her feet after sacrificing his freedom and his life to expose the deepest of betrayals, Ember knows only that nothing she was taught by dragon organization Talon is true. About humans, about rogue dragons, about herself and what she's capable of doing and feeling.

In the face of great loss, Ember vows to stand with rogue dragon Riley against the dragon-slaying Order of St. George and her own twin brother Dante--the heir apparent to all of Talon, and the boy who will soon unleash the greatest threat and terror dragonkind has ever known.

Talon is poised to take over the world, and the abominations they have created will soon take to the skies, darkening the world with the promise of blood and death to those who refuse to yield.
Remember when I talked about the dragons in Seraphina and Shadow Scale and how they could shift into human form and how that was such a cool and original idea? Well this is actually the same idea. I don't actually mind this because it is handled in a slightly different way, especially since some of the story is told from the perspective of these dragons (it's a multi perspective way of story telling kinda like GOT but with fewer characters to keep up with). Also, there's less of a sense of detachment between the dragons and their human counterparts, which is one of the key features of Seraphina. Essentially, it doesn't matter to me that their metaphysic is kind of the same, as it's different enough that you don't feel like anyone is copying anyone else.

Does it work as a standalone despite being fourth in a series? Well I'm not going to lie, it took me quite a few chapters before I had my head wrapped around who was who, who the bad guys were and what on earth was going on. But once you've inferred the broad bones of the setting I think you can read this book without too much knowledge of the previous titles. In fact, if the hype around the 'ships' on goodreads is anything to go by I suspect I've managed to avoid a lot of love triangle business by jumping in at book four. I do think I would have a greater appreciation for some of the character's actions had I read the first three, but all in all the book holds it's own, which I think is a pretty good achievement.

The plot was also really interesting. In many ways it reminded me of the early Maximum Ride novels (you know, before they got really bad) with the idea of a few ragtag weirdo kids fighting against big evil corporations and making unlikely alliances along the way. This appeals to the rebel in me (she lives quite far down below the surface, I'm a fairly non-rebellious human the rest of the time). But in the same way as I was desperate to join the flock (until book four) I'd pledge allegiance to this band of dragons any day.

If you're looking for some classic young adult fantasy (a bit of romance, certain death, twists and turns and drama by the boatload) then you should look no further than Julie Kagawa's latest book Legion. I'm going to start hunting down the other titles in the series, unless you let me know very quickly that they're not worth my time and I should give up now?

My rating: 5/5 stars (I'm giving a lot of these lately, what can I say? There are some good books out there!)

By the way: I received a digital advanced review copy of Legion from the publisher (HQ) via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, all my opinions are my own and I wouldn't recommend this if I didn't think it was worth reading.

Legion publishes May 4 2017, but you can pre order it on Amazon if you just can't wait!

Gosh I thoroughly enjoyed that one. I enjoyed it so much I just said gosh. Blimey!

I've been following this series from the start and it has just gotten better and better with every book - I'm kind of quite sad that book 5 will be the finale I believe because I've been so engaged with Ember and Riley and all the rest, in a world where Dragons live among us disguised as humans and a war rages between Talon (the dragon hierarchy and a shadowy group if ever there was one) and St George (of the Dragon, obviously, and not exactly pure of heart themselves)

Julie Kagawa has built a beautifully layered world into the Talon series, with some memorable characters and manages to give you an adrenalin hit and an emotional tug on the heartstrings every time. The more you fall in love with the characters the harder she hits you - throwing everything and the kitchen sink at them and keeping you on the edge of your seat. After the cliffhanger of the previous book (and if you are looking for salvation in this review sorry you'll have to wait and read to see how that pans out) I was ready for high drama and got exactly that. As Talon's dastardly plans start to come into the light and Ember faces her brother head on, don't expect a walk in the park, you are going to be on the rollercoaster.

I have a love/hate relationship with Dante, a love/love relationship with Riley and stagger between adoring Ember and wanting to slap her - its great when a fantasy story can really immerse you into it to the level that you believe it all while you are there - I genuinely feel that perhaps Dragons are a thing for at least a few hours after finishing these.

Overall a really terrific addition to the Talon saga - and after the end of THIS book I am genuinely on tenterhooks waiting for the finale - will the good guys win out in the end? Who exactly ARE the good guys? Brilliant. Total utter escapism and all beautifully written and plotted.

Bring it on!

Dragons. Yes.

Highly Recommended as a series especially for fans of YA fantasy.

Julie Kagawa does not disappoint in her new book in the Talon series, Legion.

Dante, Ember’s brother, is firmly entrenched in Talon on his quest to take over the organisation and finally be free. There is only one thing missing… he needs Ember to join him.

Ember still cannot believe that Dante wants to be part of Talon and misguidedly believes that he doesn’t know the truth about the organisation. She just wants a chance to talk to him so that she can finally find out the truth.

Without divulging too much, Ember, Garret and Riley walk into a trap at Talon. They learn new developments that will change the war between The Order, the rogues and Talon forever.

Who will win?

This book is so thrilling and action packed, that I couldn’t put it down. The romance won't disappoint either for those of you concerned about the "love triangle." There are some interesting twists that will surprise you.

I cannot wait for the next book as the one ended on a cliff-hanger and I can’t wait to read what happens next! Julie, please don’t keep us waiting too long!

This fantastic read deserves 5 stars.
