Lily must decide between two men- Henry and Max. You might root for both of them (they both have good qualities) initially but it will be clear which she should choose. A nice romantic read.

Such a lovely story. I very much enjoyed The Girl in Red Velvet. I found it down to earth and true to life. Margaret James evokes the eras of the 70s & 80s, so very well. Taking the reader back to time in the not so distant past we can easily remember and understand.
Great characters and a great story.

A thoroughly enjoyable story that will draw you into the lives of the three main characters from the very beginning when Lily flees her wedding. The question is who was the bridegroom to be? Starting in 1960s Oxford Lily meets Harry and Max on her first day there and is instantly attracted to them both. The young men are best friends but very different characters – Harry is quiet and studious and Max is the reckless rule-breaking one always pushing the boundaries. Lily if afraid of what she feels for Max and chooses sensible Harry who worships her. This is the catalyst for Max to begin a wild unsettled life seeking adventure and danger around the world. Lily and Max’s paths cross once with devastating consequences that affects the close friendship the three once shared and it’s many difficult years later before they have the chance to put things right.

I received a copy of Girl in Red Velvet from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
