nthralling spy thriller set in early World War 2

The author places fledgling barrister Peter Hill headlong into unknown and dangerous territory through his love for Dinah, an enigmatic, compelling Jewish émigré from the borderlands of Eastern Europe.

The period of the Nazi-Soviet pact places Dinah and her grandfather on difficult ground as their homelands are absorbed by the soviets and they come under suspicion of espionage.

Eidneow describes a fascinating London of right wingers who want to make peace with the Nazis and covert Soviet espionage that dances across both sides of the divide. There’s even a cameo appearance from Guy Burgess, although he’s not named.

It’s a slow burner to start with while the characters are drawn out by the author however, the story takes off once World War 2 starts and Peters begins service in the army. I won’t spoil the story, but it’s a good read, that’s complex and nicely set up for a sequel.

This historical fiction book is set at the onset of the Second World War.

I soon found that I liked the main character, Peter. In fact all of the characters are cleverly developed, This is a strength of this novel.

It is a successful book on several levels:
War related historical fiction.
Family saga.
Love story.
Political intrigue.
Espionage.

I liked the style of writing and the way the tension was developed.
Is there a cliff-hanger ending.......

I give thanks to Netgalley and Endeavour Press for a copy in exchange for this review.
