This is the second book in the Lightkeepers series, I did not read the first book, but think there wasn't much reference to the first book that I didn't get. The book was well written, even though supernatural fiction isn't really my thing. Recommended.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Fabulous Stars.
I didn't realise If You Dare (The Lightkeepers #2) By Erica Splinder was the second book in this series.
It probably would have been better to read book one first despite this "If You Dare" was very easy to interpret and told the back-story of this series splendidly.
Now You could technically read this as a standalone, but my recommendation would be start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start usually ha ha.
Now after playing some catch up I quickly fell into the story of dark and light bearers and the age old battle of good versus evil.
Erica Spindler has really managed to create a vivid world that was so easy to get absorbed into, immersing myself fully into this other domain.
The book picks up where the previous one leaves us.
we have Our two detectives, Mikki, who has recovered from her injuries but is feeling that a lot is being kept from her, she feels on the outside partially, out in the cold, but not understanding exactly why.
Then there's her partner Zach who is half/ half lighter but is much more in the picture regarding information sharing and has been ordered to keep stum. keeping his partner in the dark is something he struggles with as well as certain feelings towards Mikki he so shouldn't be entertaining.
There's also Angel eighteen and struggling with her independence and Mikki's set boundaries, A Rebellious teenager in love for the first time with the mysterious Seth who comes with a very creepy but rich uncle.
This whole story is a puzzle with the pieces just waiting to be slotted together and everybody has a part to play in the bigger picture.
There are so many interesting and diverse secondary character's in this tale as well as the three main players Mikki, Zach and Angel. I love that we get to crawl inside this trios heads seeing different interpretations of events as they unfolded.
All the characters here were fleshed out well and the story just flowed for me effortlessly, keeping my attention throughout.
I found reading If You Dare an enjoyable experience and I would be happy to recommend it to others, my only advice would be Start at book one first before proceeding to the Finish line makes things a whole lot easier overall.
Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an arc of If You Dare, this is my own honest and unbiased opinion.

A good read, different take on the good versus evil fight. Really like the main characters and hope there's more.

This is the second in the series set in New Orleans. It can be read as a stand alone. It is more of a thriller or a mystery than a supernatural but the promise is there. I much prefer the crime books to the supernatural or paranormal. This book is somewhere in the middle. I like the two main characters and the plot was good but, for me, not the best book from Erica Spindler. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon.

Some weeks ago did I read my very first Erica Spindler book, The Other Girl, and I absolutely loved it. Then, I read the novella Random Acts: Prequel to the Lightkeepers Series and found it to be OK, not as good as The Other Girl, but good enough for me to be curious enough to want to read this series. So, when I got the chance to read If You Dare did I go for it.

This is book two in The Lightkeepers series, but thanks to Random Acts did I know enough about Micki's background to understand and know her, despite having not read the first book. And, let me tell you this book is fabulous. There is just something about Spindler's way of writing that pulls me in and I really like the characters in this book. I love detective Micki "Mad Dog" Dare, she is a tough cop, but there is something vulnerable over her, she has built walls around her to protect herself from being hurt. And, Zack "Hollywood" Harris is, besides being her psychic partner perhaps the one to break down the walls (if they both survive to do so of course).

I liked the story in this book, however, it did now and then feel a bit predictable., Not in the boring kind of way, more in that was quite easy to see that Angel's (Micki's friend) need for love and acceptance make her an easy prey. And, that is the one thing that I felt just make the book not reach the 5-star that I was tempted to give it for a while when I read the book. I simply would have loved some more surprises. However, one a side note, I fully understood Angel, her situation, I was never annoyed with her decisions throughout the book. She's young and a bit naive.

I like the book, the battle between good and evil. Have I finally found a romantic surprise series that work for me? It could be the paranormal angle that make it work for me, and that Spindler really writes so well that even Micki and Zacks obvious attraction to each other works for me. Me, that usually have a hard time with romance in books. Also, I really, really like Eli, Parker (Lightkeepers), etc. And I'm looking forward to reading the first book to get to know more about the Lightkeeper. Btw, I did order the first book when I was little over halfway through the book. And, I can't wait to get the book!

Any other Erica Spindler books I should buy and read?

4.5 stars

It's been three months since that night - the night that Detective Micki Dare almost died. Physically, she's healed but the nightmares remain, and she can't shake the feeling that more happened that night than her partner Detective Zach Harris is telling her. The only thing she can do is try to carry on as normal and solve the latest case she and Zach have been assigned to.

A string of brutal home invasions are rocking the city and the families targeted have nothing in common. Why were these victims chosen? The deeper Micki and Zach go into the case, the more they realise something isn't right. There's something . . . familiar about the person doing this - and it's a familiarity Micki has been trying to forget. Suddenly, this case is hitting too close to home and Micki has to decide if she really wants to learn the truth about that night . . .

I'm a fan of Erica Spindler and love the fantasy element of this new series. You have Detecetive Micki Dare and her partner Zach or 'Hollywood'. Zach is a member of a special FBI task force as he has special talents which are supernatural. Zach is a half light and battles against evil or Dark Bearers, helped by Micki.
This was an gripping read and I read it within a day. The story is fast paced and the characters very likeable. The characters are well written and believable.
I do think you need to read the first book in the series but would highly recommend.
I love the characters and look forward to the next instalment of this storyline.
Highly recommend!

This is the second in the detectives Micki Dare and Zach Harris supernatural crime series set in New Orleans. For me, it worked fine as a standalone because much of what happened in the first book is referred to here and resolved. This is the story of good vs evil, the light bearers vs the dark bearers, although it is fair to say it is not always so clear cut as most people have both forces within them. Micki comes to be more aware of the FBI project of using light bearers like Zach in law enforcement. There are some brutal home invasions occurring in the city that involve lights shone in the eyes of children, devastating vandalism, and some other strange factors. The perpetrators are young, gleeful, and out of control, although efforts are made to not frighten the children.

It is difficult to nail down who the young people are but dark powers appear to be behind it. Tommy provides some insight through his experience of meeting Kyle who tries to induce him to join such a group which Tommy rejects. Angel is living with Micki, but their relationship is rather fraught, as she is hyper sensitive to any attempt to influence her personal life. Angel's insecurities leave her wide open to fall head over heels for the good looking Seth who mysteriously appears in her life. The teenage Angel, with her artistic gifts, feels the world is against her as she obsesses over Seth, and runs away to join him at his art collector Uncle Will's mansion. However, all is not as it seems as she finds herself in unsettling and disturbing circumstances. Micki and Zach try to locate Angel, find abducted children, and close in on the Six-Cubed gang responsible for the home invasions as it becomes clear that a powerful dark bearer has nefarious plans which bring danger to the detectives and Angel.

This is a well plotted and entertaining read with plenty of suspense and tension. It seems all the characters are revealed to have some gifts in the light and dark bearer world, including Micki as she joins Lester Truebell, Eli and Zach at their project. Micki's troubled memories and worries over the previous case where she nearly died are clarified as she comes to be aware of the truth. Whilst Zach and Micki's relationship has romantic feelings, both are laying off getting involved for the moment. I recommend this fast paced thriller to those who enjoy crime, fantasy and suspense as a combination. Many thanks to Little, Brown for an ARC.

I have enjoyed reading Erica Spindler's novels for some time now but if I am completely honest I didn't really connect with the 1st book in this series. I put it down to the different genre of this series which is classed as a 'Supernatural thriller'. With my previous experiences of reading this author I was happy to give the series another chance with the 2nd novel 'Triple Six' and I am so glad I did. I found this book a lot more enjoyable, the characters were more interesting and I felt the plot was better paced.
This 2nd novel features detectives Micki Dare and Zach Harris, it is now three months since Micki almost died, she is still having nightmares and has a feeling that more happened that night than Zach is telling her. Their latest case is a string of brutal home invasions in New Orleans and the families targeted seemingly have nothing in common. There are lots of twists and turns as the case hits too close to home.

I would like to thank Net Galley for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for a honest review.

I nearly didn't read this. I love Erica Spindler and followed her crime/thriller novels. When I read the first book in this series The Final Seven I didn't particularly enjoy it. In fact I left a review saying as much. The reason for this I think is because I approached it all wrong. I was expecting more of the usual fast paced crime thriller and instead ended up being introduced to some kind of supernatural/urban fantasy story that was totally unexpected. It was this lack of preparation that kind of ruined it for me. It was for this reason that I swore off reading anymore in this series.

However, I decided to give it another shot and I'm really glad that I did. Knowing what to expect this time I found it much more enjoyable. I liked the characters of Micki and Zach much more in this book, they were more natural and less in your face.

The storyline was much better too, a lot more history about the light keepers and what happened at the end of Final Seven. I think after this I'll definitely pick up this series again and return to my love of Erica's novels.
