When Conner Douglas found himself in the position of needing a wife very soon, the first to come to mind was Thea Cumberbatch-Snowe. As a close friend of her family and her brother's best friend for many years, he thought that being she was nigh on the shelf, she'd be happy with his plan of marriage of convenience.
Then there was the little problem of his arriving to ask.....right after she eloped with a local squire.
He took off after them and put his question to her thinking she'd dump the squire for him.
Not so! Thea had loved him since before she was seventeen and was heartbroken that he didn't feel like she did.
The chase, and subsequent jaunt to Scotland contains humor and heat.
Vividly described characters, clothing and places light up the pages and make ending the tale only acceptable because we know Conner is only the first of the three brothers needing to marry.
I hope Lachlan also has a story....greedy lil dickens that I am.
I saw the ARC on NetGalley and jumped at the chance to request it and happily was granted same.

Loved this! Connor and Thea were great together! Loved how Connor took Thea for granted all his life until she showed him she was not at his beck and call. Connor was great though. Loved him even if he was a rake!

Ms. Hawkins never fails to delight with her historical romances. "Caught by the Scot" was exceptional.

I was delighted to be chosen to read an ARC Caught by the Scot as I am a fan of Karen Hawkins writing. Witty and charming the story of Connor and Thea explores the ideas of you never know what you've got till its gone and is home a place or a person? Connor Douglas needs a bride quickly in order to inherit his share of the family estate, unfortunately for him Theodora Cumberbatch-Snowe his bride of choice has already eloped with another and so the chase is on. Tracking her down proves easy enough but convincing her to marry him instead will take all of his charm and persistence, for Thea is sure that loving someone who does not love her back is simply not good enough. I enjoyed this book immensely and look forward to reading about the adventures of the other Douglas brothers in their bride searches.

Och, well played, Your Grace.

Don't be such a baby, Jack. It's only marriage. You'd have to do it eventually.

Oy. This will not end well for you, Conner.

He's showing up to his intended bride's house hungover? Idiot man. Oh, and now there's a half-naked woman with him.

He's definitely not got a problem with self-confidence.

That is so not a romantic adventure.

Well, even if the squire is apparently an idiot and a mama's boy, it's worth it to see him show up Conner.

The war is on!

Ha! I love the Greek chorus that is his shipmates.

Stop talking, man!

Lance wants to mold her into his perfect woman. Yick.

It's like she grew up in a family of gypsies, but with better job security.

Thea would make a great mother.

Jane and Lance sound like hypochondriacs.

So basically, Lance wants a broodmare/slave, who will also be a companion to his mother and chaperone his sisters. And you wonder why he is marrying someone after knowing her for three weeks.

Lance wanted to get married so he could travel? That's kind of sad.

Well, at least Alice has proved capable, if annoying as hell.

Turned on by boots. That's a new one.

Now Lance grows some balls? I'm thinking someone's in love with Jane.

Why Alice, you little thief!

She went to his house when he wasn't there? Why?

She sounds like a real estate agent. Hopefully actual agents haven't bored anyone to sleep!

She'd be bored with an easy man. Look at Lance.

Loved this book. Such a great couple how they keep trying to fight what is between them. Was a little long and drawn out but I loved it.

Karen Hawkins does not disappoint with book one in her new series.
Conner Douglas and his two brothers have to marry quickly or they lose their inheritance to an enemy clan. Conner thinks he has it all figured out. He will marry his best friend's sister and just leave her at home while he sails the sea. But Thea has other plans. She has already eloped with a local squire when he gets there.
While some aspects of the story are predictable (as with any romance), Karen manages to makes it less so with humor and wit.
Conner's attempts to thwart the elopement are inspiring and devious and downright funny.
Thea doesn't believe that Conner will ever settle down and she is tired of waiting. Conner doesn't believe that he needs to, but he firmly believes that Thea shouldn't marry the squire. He is only now starting to understand why.
Read the book to find out more!
I can not wait for the next installment to this series!
