I LOVE Catherine Coulter and I love the FBI Thriller series. It's been awhile since I read a Dillon and Sherlock book so I was excited to see this one on Netgalley (thank you for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review)

You do NOT need to have read the prior books to be able to pick up on this one though it certainly wouldn't hurt anything. The characters have grown and evolved so much since this series started and I am truly enjoying where Catherine Coulter has taken everyone.

This book follows two storylines, which was honestly, my biggest gripe about the whole thing. The whole book could have been about the primary plot (mad scientist son trying to create a fountain of youth to save his father and uses human test subjects. One subject escapes and the plans all start to fall apart) and the secondary plot seemed more so there to fill pages than anything. Don't get me wrong, it was exciting, and I enjoyed it, but it certainly didn't feel as though it belonged with this book (other than to introduce two new potential recurring characters - which is what I suspect was the ultimate goal)

Another adventure with Savich, Sherlock and crew. This time there’s a kidnapped baby, a comatose patient, Irish bank robber and Russians... I love how Coulter manages to intermingle seemingly separate stories and keep you on the edge of your seat.

I often avoid "thrillers" because they are to gory and/or intense.
I'm glad I didn't avoid this one.
A tight, fast=paced story line with two threads.
One is an odd John Doe situation impacting a pregnant woman.
The other is a dangerous convict escaping.l
It is a very satisfying ride.
The John Doe part is frighteningly believable.

Catherine Coulter is not an author I usually read. I think I've only read one book of hers before therefore, I wasn't familiar with any of the characters. I thought the book had a good plot but I had trouble keeping track of who was who, and on a kindle it's not so easy to flip back to check.

Coulter is is known for her well–crafted stories, loaded with suspense, that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. This is one of her best yet.

Following Savich and Sherlock as they search for the link between the baby and the strange young man, they uncover a diabolical plot by scientist Lister Maddox.
There are numerous twists in these two mysteries and you will have to be super sharp to put the pieces together.

I loved it and highly recommend "Enigma" to all mystery lovers.

Another excellent novel from a master storyteller. Fast and furious and with characters that will hang in your mind long after you finish----and you will do so quickly as this is a book you can't put down.

This is the 21st book in Coulter's FBI series. I think having read the other books in the series makes the story more enjoyable and the characters easier to connect with. This book follows two different mysteries, one a scientific mystery, and the other dealing with an escaped bank robber.
One case begins with Savich saving a pregnant woman from an intruder who claims to be trying to protect her. He ends up in a coma, and she gives birth to the baby, who is kidnapped just hours after birth. Sherlock and Savich work to uncover the connection and save the baby.
New agents Wittier and Cabot hunt for an escaped bank robber with ties to both the Russian mob and high levels of government.
The book is well written, well paced, and hard to put down. The two plot lines are both detailed, but clearly written and easy to follow. Coulter provides good imagery and detail, but without getting bogged down in minute, unneccessary details.
In several recent books, I really disliked some of the dialogue between Sherlock and Savich, which seemed forced and silly. This book has less of that which I appreciate. Coulter has moved away from some of the romance that the series started with. But the characters still seem to end up together very abruptly. The characters either need to have some romance to bring them together, or not end up a couple.
This is an example of another good book from Coulter in the FBI series. It sticks with the overall formula of the series, but she always makes the characters and stories interesting and enjoyable to read.

Catherine Coulter never disappoints. I was hooked from the first page. Sherlock is back with her husband trying to figure out why a man would break into a young pregnant woman's house to warn her about her baby.
The book was fast paces and provided a great thrill for readers! Great ending that tied everything together. BRAVO to the author!

As always, Catherine Coulter has written a page turner. Her FBI series always pleases.

This series is great! I cannot believe this is book 21 in the series! Ms Coulter never disappoints!

The various crimes and complex situations in ENIGMA will keep you on the edge of your seat. The reader will get to see again the life and love of Savich and Sherlock and their son Sean. Also, a big part of the storyline is Cam Wittier and Jack Cabot, she is new to his unit and Jack is one Savich wants on his team. Romance is never a heavy element for Coulter's books but you get the feel of the closeness that slowly develops between the two, especially after she figures out he can fly a plane even one as small as the one he presents her. Their dialogue is snarky, funny and humorous until it was time to get down to F.B.I. work then they were all business. What I really thought was rather peculiar, in a good way, is the fact that Ms. Coulter gave not one but three epilogues and the last one caught me completely by surprise.

ENIGMA will give you a thrill ride with a varied and intriguing line of characters, the twisty trails that wraps up all the mysteries into one amazing finale. If you have never read any of Ms. Coulter's F.B.I. books you are missing a great series, but this one is a stand-alone and can be enjoyed while you look for all her other books.

This was like reading a "B" matinee movie. Two light weight story lines that had nothing to do with each other. And each chapter progressed one of the stories. And 3 epilogues???? Need I say more?

I was very happy to see the cases in this book were solved with normal FBI and computer problem solving. I did not enjoy the last book I read in this series that had a huge paranormal aspect. Once again there are two different cases being solved at the same time. They do not intertwine as far as the cases go, but Sherlock and Savich are involved in both.

When FBI agent Dillon Savich saves Kara Moody from a hostage taker, he doesn’t realize that he will be involved in her life in a few more days. He is also not sure what the nagging feeling in his head will bring when he remembers the hostage taker mumbling that he is an Enigma. When the John Doe ends up in a coma and Kara’s newborn baby boy is kidnapped from the hospital, Savich knows that it is somehow connected. Meanwhile they are also dealing with an escaped convict who was freed in a high risk rescue from his transport vehicle. Once again Savich is sure the lawyer who represented “Manta Ray” was a go-between who helped set up the escape. Not only are Agent Cam Wittier and former special forces agent Jack Cabot chasing him down in the forested area of Appalachian foothills, but Savich and others are trying to find the mastermind of the escape.

Enigma is a story that blends science and organized crime in a thrill ride with the FBI coming out on top. This was a fast paced story that has a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-developed, and the two plots-lines mesh together well. Her descriptive writing makes you feel like you are a part of the story. The emotions of the characters comes across and you can’t help but feel for them. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next one. I recommend this story to any and all thriller lovers.

I used to read Catherine Coulter books years ago and then slacked off on reading. So I came into this series not knowing the characters. Now I remember why I read her books before. At no time did I feel lost or feel like I missed something from not reading others in the series. I'm a nurse so medical thrillers entice me. This one starts off with a crazy man in an apartment with a pregnant girl. He said he escaped. They were able to get him into custody and he slipped into a coma. Meanwhile the story unfolds into this crazy scientific experiment they were doing. Definite must read if you like medical thrillers.

This was a really good mystery with a lot of action and suspense. In the beginning, I thought I would never keep all the different characters straight but everyone travels off to their own assignments and it becomes easier to keep track of everyone. Fast-paced and fun read.

Great Book , found a new go to author. Years ago I use to read every Mary Higgins Clark book but lately her books don't thrill me like they once did. Catherine Coulter new book Enigma is a thrilling and complicated read. I will definitely read more from this author.

I think I've only read one other book by Catherine Coulter, but I will have to find time for more. This certainly falls into the thriller realm, and I quite enjoyed it. I did find it a bit confusing at times, as there were so many characters and so much was going on all the time, but by the end, all secrets had been revealed and I was quite satisfied. I can't even begin to talk about what is going on, but an FBI team is busy chasing some bad guys all over the US, through the Smoky Mountains and DC and all kinds of other places to solve some very strange mysteries, and it all falls into place in the last 50 pages or so. That's the way thrillers are supposed to work - isn't it? What more could I ask - and the scary part is that it's all quite believable. There was so much going on all at once early in the book that it cost one star in my rating, but overall a good read. BTW - I did receive a review copy for free from Net Galley.

Enigma, unfortunately, has a plot that is too much like a television show episode that I watched recently. This tainted my view of the book because, although I did try not to make comparisons, I could not help see the strengths and weaknesses of both stories. As this review is regarding Enigma, I will focus my attention on the novel alone.

The biggest weakness is the plot, as the story itself brings nothing new to the table. There are simply too many plot lines going on simultaneously, which takes the focus away from the main premise.

The strength of the book lie in the characterization, especially regarding the newer characters to the series. It is my hope that Cam Wittier and Jack Cabot can become the focus of the books moving forward, as I feel that the Savich and Sherlock show is just about played out. Not to mention the fact that I doubt the FBI would allow a married couple to be on the same team, but the dialogue between the pair is always the same. I get that they love each other, but there is a time and a place for everything. As seasoned professionals, you would think that Savich and Sherlock would have mastered the art keeping their work and personal lives separate.

That being said, Enigma is a quick read despite the number of pages. Readers who are new to the series might consider starting with one of the earlier books, as the repeat main characters have evolved throughout the lengthy series.

“Enigma" is the 21st installment of Catherine Coulter’s FBI thriller series featuring agents Savich and Sherlock. There are actually two separate enigmas or puzzling situations in this book.

The first enigma, is also a person; specifically, Enigma 2 or Arthur Childers. He breaks into a pregnant Kara Moody’s home, ties her up and tries to convince her to run away with him and that they have to get away from “them” before it’s too late. Savich happens to save Kara from this crazy stranger, but not before Arthur is left in a coma and Kara is in labor.

At the hospital, test run on Arthur yield strange, startling results. Kara’s labor goes smoothly, but soon after Alex is born, he is kidnapped. As answers are found, even more questions surface. Just who is Arthur Childers?
Second, Savich and Sherlock race to find Liam Hennessey AKA “Manta Ray”. Liam, a very charismatic thug, recently took a plea bargain for a bank robbery during which his partner died after killing a bank teller. The missing loot from the heist has not been found and Liam has communicated with no one other than his attorney during his time in jail. While Liam is being transferred to federal prison, his convoy is attacked and Liam escapes. They race to track Liam down before he recovers the stolen loot from the bank robbery.

“Enigma” is well written, an excellent story and has a super ending… up to par with Catherine Coulter’s other books in the series. Great stand alone book, but recommend starting with the first one so you know the recurring characters and events in the past.
