Boston Monsters is a search and find book about the capital of Massachusetts. In this book are a lot of places you can check out - including a few places I've been to like the Duck Statue, marathon finish line, Boston Tea Party, and Boston Public Gardens. There are a lot of cool illustrations throughout the book and throughout you can look for all the cute hidden monsters on all of the pages! This is a really fun way to teach kids about new places in a fun and interesting way!

I received an e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

This is a cute children's book that teaches about the city of Boston while having the children search for monsters in the illustrations. It features many historic features of Boston that you'd commonly see on a tour if you were to visit. As a native, these are definitely day-to-day staples that you'd see around the city. The narrative about what each picture is about is age-appropriate for children who are just being introduced to history in this audience range.

The pictures are pretty darn accurate and adorable, though something bothered me about the narrative. It seemed overly technical or dry in some way, like something you'd read right out of a travel brochure or landmark pamphlet. It's age appropriate, but bland. There isn't anything playful or entertaining about what is written. In agreement with my thoughts, my six and three year old could not hold their attention to the words that went with the pictures, and were far more interested in finding the monsters after hearing the name of each location, wanting to whiz past the actual reading.

All in all, this is a pretty decent introduction to travel and historic landmarks in general, but a tad on the dry side for a children's book.

Reminds me of the Highlights magazines I used to read when I was a kid. The seek and find was always my favorite, and this is like an upgraded version of that. I think kids will love it!

3.5 stars

This was a cute little kid’s picture book. The seek and find aspect was a nice addition to an otherwise short illustrated look at Boston historical sites. I think kids and parents alike will have fun learning and searching. One drawback I noticed, however, was that there is no specified number of monsters to look for. Not an altogether terrible thing, but I do think it’s nice to have a goal in mind when hunting- especially for younger kids.

Thanks to NetGalley, as well as the author and publisher, for the review copy and opportunity.

This book was adorable. Each page is a different location in Boston and you have to find little monsters hidden in the picture. I thought the concept of showing parts of Boston and describing the location plus the monster search was great. I would have liked to see more historical tidbits in the book. But this would be a great book for kid if you are traveling to Boston to have. I can't wait to buy a copy for my daughter. I recieved a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for a review.

The introduction to the city of Boston and its history through the search for hidden monsters will be educational and fun for any child and the person who reads it with the child. While highlighting special places in Boston the book will excite the young reader to want to visit. Very well done. Love those monsters!

Another winner in the "City Monsters" series. Colorful illustrations of Boston's famous and historic landmarks fill the pages of this engaging search and find book for small children. Each page includes a text box with a short description of the landmark as well as a box indicating how many little monsters are hiding on the page. Lots of fun!

Boston Monsters: A Search-and-Find Book is written by Carine Laforest and illustrated by Lucile Danis Drouot. This book is part of the City Monsters series, which "takes you on a sightseeing adventure. Find the hidden little monsters as you discover big-city landmarks."

As an interactive story, children will learn about the city of Boston, as they search and find adorable monsters throughout the colorful illustrations of city landmarks, such as the Freedom Trail, Boston Public Library, New England Aquarium, and Fenway Park.

According to the back cover, "Boston is such a great place to live that even little monsters have taken up residence there.... Have fun spotting them all as you explore some of Boston's most iconic landmarks and sights!"

This easy-to-read board book is a charming children's travel book, which is geared towards younger readers, particularly ages three to eight.

I read this book with my 8 year old daughter to see what her opinion would be. She is a little beyond the look and find stage but she still absolutely loved this book as well as the rest in the series. She thought that it is a great book for little kids because it was a fun book that taught you stuff too. I would totally buy this book for my nephews and nieces. We had fun pointing out the monsters and we also learned some new facts along the way.

Boston has many historic sites to see including the Make Way for Ducklings statue, and a chance to throw tea into Boston Harbor.

In another edition of the “find monsters, not Waldo” books, the hunt leads the reader to places like the ducklings sculpture in the Public Garden, New England Aquarium, Bunker Hill, and the Tea Party port, and ends up being subversively educational. If you’re a monster in Boston, where would you hang out? Fenway, of course, home of the biggest of all monsters.
These were harder to find than the previous books, because I couldn’t tell if some of them were monsters or not; not enough detail, or too far away.

An engaging and colourful book. I can see lots of parents having fun searching for the monsters with their children. The book is informative but makes learning enjoyable for children. Another great book in the series.
