This book proved to be very light reading - a bit superficial for me, but enjoyable all the same. I don't think that I'll bother with any more of Ms Wareham's books.

Once - 12 years ago - Jake and Cassie were young lovers. At 17 and he 19 she thought it would always last, but he went to his dad in the USA for 6 weeks and never returned. Her letters went unanswered and it broke her heart.

Cassie now runs a quite successful concierge-business but they are having trouble after an ex-employee (and her boyfriend) has run off with a big chunk of money. So when she gets a well-paying gig (although a bit shady) she needs someone to act as her husband and what she gets is Jake...
Jake has temporarily taken over his mother's detective agency and is willing to fulfill husband-duty for a price: half the money.

The story evolves when Jake and Cassie decide to go sleuthing and travel to San Remo, following some leads. There, in a lovely villa and pretending to be on their honeymoon, old feelings resurface.

I quite enjoyed the story. Even when the story is light and a beach read, it is nicely done and easy to read. I did think there were some strange coincidences, but it did not take away from the story and the setting was lovely. It gave me a warm and romantic feeling (and a wish to travel to San Remo!).

Cassie’s life has been on a down swing lately. One ex-boyfriend who turned out to be the worst kind of jerk, the kind that steals money, ruins a business and breaks a trust. With one client to take on a somewhat unusual job for, although really all of Cassie’s jobs are out of the ordinary, she has this one last chance to save her concierge service business. And wouldn’t you know her luck. The “perfect” partner for this job is the one man she never thought to see again. A man who she’d loved, who had broken her heart when he left the country without a word or future contact to recreate his life in America. How could the fates have been so unkind as to have Jake be the only viable solution to keeping her nearly ruined company afloat? And why exactly was he back, it seems awfully unusual that he turns up just in time to save the day – on this particular job.

Summer in San Remo is one of those stories that is a gem to read no matter what time of the year you discover it. You could call Cassie and Jake’s story many things. A second chance romance, a mystery, a delightful romp across some of the most beautiful parts of the world… or you could simply call it a great story, all those would be correct.

With mysteries to solve, a love to rekindle and an ex-boyfriend to bring to justice, Summer in San Remo provides a bit of several key elements to make this romance one that will keep your attention, enjoy a likable couple and do a bit of armchair travel to the beautiful San Remo. Hard to ask for more than that. This was my first time reading Evonne Wareham’s works and I certainly enjoyed what she provided in this story. Enough so that I’m now on a search for her other stories – I love a good mystery-thriller along with my romances. If you’re in the mood for a really good romance to take you to exotic places along with a couple that will touch your heart – then this is the story for you. I’d highly recommend it and look forward to another story in this series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
