A confident and thrilling police procedural which is ideal for fans of the series or new readers alike. Gritty, engaging and mysterious in equal measure.

This is the 8th book in a long running series but the first one I have read.

Whilst it’s not always the best to start a series so late in, you miss much much of the back story and chemistry that’s clearly here with the 2 protagonists, I still enjoyed this solid and very well written crime thriller.

Riveting, suspenseful crime fiction written just how it should be, I’ll be visiting the start of the series to fill in and catch up as I was genuinely impressed by the author.

An entertaining and gripping book from a bestselling and well-reputed author in the crime genre. It's dark and engaging but with a likeable and somehow relatable main character - well-written and kept me guessing.

I'm not usually a fan of detective novels, but I did really enjoy this one. I enjoyed the overall mystery and trying to figure it out before the detectives do. I know this is the eighth book in a series, but it's pretty alright to read as a standalone, as I believe all books in this series follow its own mystery. There are some references to things that happened in previous books, of course, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this book. Might check out the other books, though, and perhaps read them in order.

I wish I had read previous books in this series. It took a while to get into the characters but it was a good read with great characters and a past paced plot.

Jane Casey does it again! I have not read a title of hers that I don't like. I read this in one sitting - it was that good!

This is a solid thriller. Maeve is a believable character and has matures through the series well. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I didn't realise this was part of a series when requesting it and as I am up to my eyeballs with series already I really didn't want to add another to the list. But I gave it a go though I doubt I will read any more because I have too many other series on the go.

In prison for killing two women, DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent were sure sure of Leo Stone's guilt. But doubts have arisen and he is released from prison. Leo, of course, declares he is a victim of a miscarriage of justice, but Kerrigan is convinced he was guilty and rightfully convicted. Now that he is free and declaring his innocence, Kerrigan digs deeper and the more she uncovers the less she is convinced of his guilt. Was he really guilty or did they put an innocent man in prison?

Now another woman has disappeared in similar circumstances and questions are being asked. Is there a copycat? Or is Leo reoffending once again?

The friendship between Kerrigan and Derwent makes a pleasant change from the usual angst among the ranks in other series, which is something that deters me from police procedurals these days. There are plenty of questions that will have you pondering whether Stone is guilty or not and the plot makes for addictive reading.

If I wasn't already buried beneath series and plenty of other books, I may well have sought out the rest of this series because chances are I would enjoy them.

CRUEL ACTS is an enjoyable addition to the Maeve Kerrigan series and can quiet easily be read as a standalone. Perfect for fans of crime fiction.

I would like to thank #JaneCasey, #Netgalley and #HarperCollins for an ARC of #CruelActs in exchange for an honest review.

The eighth book in the series, Cruel Acts nevertheless works well as a standalone.

Very twisty turny, Cruel Acts will keep you guessing right until the very end. A serial killer is released from prison due to a procedural error and now the detectives have to find out whether he's guilty or if something else is going on when the deaths start piling up.

An excellent thriller, I'd strongly advise you read the rest of the series as well to get the most out of it - you won't regret it!

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

This is another great entry in the Maeve Kerrigan series. Jane Casey knows how to write strong procedural led thrillers and this is no exception. Maeve is a brilliant, flawed character and if you've been reading along with the series you will be delighted to spend some more time in her company.

The friendship between the two main characters add depth to this book as well as the twist and turns of the plot leaving you wandering where all the clues are heading.

This is the first book I have read by Jane Casey although it is book eight in the series I enjoyed it as a stand alone but definitely a series worth investigating fully.

Wow I love this book. I had not read the series and will definitely be reading them all from the beginning. It did not spoil this book not having read the others. Such a thrilling read with a great twist.
