Really great read, hard to put down, twists and turns as the detectives reinvestigate a series of murders. Well written

Families are complicated and nobody knows what's going on behind closed doors. And the biggest question: Is it possible to be born evil, can evil be hereditary? Through all the book I was sure I knew who's the suspect. But in the end, no, I had it all wrong. There where a few moments I wasn't sure how it would all play out and the twist had med biting my nails and holding my breath. This is such a great series and I hope there is a lot more to come.

Maeve Kerrigan is likeable, slightly unpredictable and a great detective! I've read the others in this series and this latest one doesn't disappoint. Jane Casey puts a lot of thought into her books, so it's difficult to second guess what's going to happen next - in this one I thought I'd worked out who was responsible for the disappearance and murder of young women but there was a twist I hadn't anticipated! I think that in addition to a very good storyline the undercurrent/attraction between Maeve and her boss, Josh, adds to the enjoyment in the book. I highly recommend Cruel Acts.

When convicted killer Leo Stone is released on a technicality, DS Maeve Kerrigan is assigned to reviewing the case to prepare for his retrial. As she delves into the files, she suspects there may be more to this case and starts to have doubts about Leo's guilt. Working again with Josh Derwent, she is determined to find the truth, even when she is removed to the bottom of the investigation team she won't stop.
This is not the first in the series and can be read without the others; however there are some references to the history of the relationship between Kerrigan and other characters from previous books which you may find a little confusing.

I really enjoyed the steady pace of this book and the twists throughout and look forward to reading the other books in the series.

An excellent crime novel with lots of interesting twists. I really enjoyed the characters and although this is a stand alone story I wish I had read the first in the series first to find out more about them. I recommend you to read both books.

This is the latest in the Maeve Kerrigan detective series and sees Maeve teaming up with Josh Derwent to re-investigate a series of murders when killer Leo Stone is set free following news that his jury were prejudiced in his original trial.

Maeve however suspects there is even more to the case and that several other murders may have been the work of Stone. Battling against the opinions of others, Maeve delves into the past and takes us through some gruesome and shocking twists and turns as she fights for what she believes.

This is the first Maeve Kerrigan book I have read and I loved it. The relationship between her and Derwent is intriguing as were the hints to her past relationship with a former colleague. I look forward to reading more of the books to get up to date! I also enjoyed reading a crime novel with so many strong female characters. Often the main character is male and the female characters largely there as love interests!

This book really kept me guessing and was hard to put down. Highly recommended!

As this is the eighth book in the Maeve Kerrigan, I had expected some much needed character developments from Maeve, but was given none. She is still very much the same as she was at the start of the series which is very disappointing.

I am also tired of the recycled plot of a young girl abducted by a serial killer, why I get that this is Maeve's job, I feel it is time to giver her some more diverse cases.

This is the first book I've read in this series and by this author. It did mean it was a little harder to follow, but well worth persevering!

This is the first book I have read in this series but I don’t think this detracted from my enjoyment.

Leo Stone has been convicted of murder but is released on a technicality. It is the job of detective Maeve to ensure his retrial puts him back behind bars. Convinced of his guilt and connection to more murders her dogged determination leads to further crimes that the team uncover.

This book came alive for me about half way through, this may have been because I wasn’t as invested in the characters as the readers who have finished the previous seven books in the series. There were some references to past stories and this has makes me intrigued to go back and read them too.

The writing was sparky and easy to read and the story unfolded with great skill. I was worried that the obvious candidates were going to turn out to be the culprits but the ending takes a swift turn that I wasn’t expecting - a well thought out story.

Another gripping Maeve Kerrigan book. I like Jane Casey. Writes well. Good stories. This book is no different and I’d definitely recommend.

Cruel Acts is the eighth Maeve Kerrigan novel by Jane Casey and this was well worth the wait. I adore this series and it seems that they just keep getting better and better with each new instalment. Cruel Acts is a fantastic read with a well-paced plot and well developed characters, most especially the relationship between Maeve and Josh. They definitely complement each other and it will be interesting to see if anything ever develops with this relationship. Police procedurals are one of my favourite types of books to read and I could not put this book down once I started it. I was reluctant to finish it because I didn’t want it to end and have to wait yet again for more!

Cruel acts by Jane casey it a must read for any crime thriller fan out there. I lived it and couldn't put it down, it was so gripping.

This was the first book I have read by this author, and will definitely be reader more! Brilliant thriller, plenty of twists, it really kept me guessing.

Really enjoyed this. I’d not heard of this author before and immediately enjoyed the style of writing and the way that it grabbed you from the first page. I then googled it and discovered I’m very late to this party and this is number 8 in the series!! This works fine as a standalone. Interesting main plot and I love the electricity between the two main characters. With tantalising nods to what’s been before I’ll definitely be catching up on this back catalogue

This is the second book in a series and it is shaping up as quite a positive new voice in a very overcrowded genre. Casey is able to put together a complex plot and a set of characters that are developing over time. This is an enjoyable if rather formulaic read.

Jane Casey's latest Maeve Kerrigan thriller does not disappoint. A relatively new reader of the series, I've been devouring the previous instalments.
I felt that the plot of Cruel Acts varies a little from previous titles in the series in that this one has more of an individual focus on Maeve herself, as opposed to her relationships/issues controlling more of the narrative. Derwent is obviously still a big factor in the plot, and in her life, but I liked that there was more of her working on her own this time around. At this stage, number eight in the series, we know her well enough as a character and this story showcases her abilities and personality that bit better, which I enjoyed. The case at hand is another interesting one, filled with twists and unexpected turns. You're left guessing until close to the end, as always.
In this novel, like the others, a part of me feels a little sorry for Kerrigan's character with all of the personal strife and drama she has to endure.; that element to the story is essentially what progresses the series along so successfully. For everything that happens to her in one book, you only learn enough to give that plot point some finish within the overall narrative, but not enough to totally answer any questions you may have about it; I always look forward to getting my hands on the next in the series to see what happens her - how these personal issues end up/work out.
I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Terrified me so much in parts I had to save it for daylight reading! Exciting pace, unique and breathtaking suspense.
