I hated this book, for a star it was too long...did we really need 200 pages of lunch dates, events and dresses? Amber is a horrible character and I hate her fat shaming....the ending was OK I guess

This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

After 25% of the book read, the plot idea became obvious. One Mrs Parrish too many lived. So Amber had to ensure that she was no more. Divorce? Murder? Could be either.
However, it ws slow going to find out which and i was not invested in the answer. I found the style rather plodding for my taste. I prefer my stories to move faster with their twists and turns and happenings.
The characterisations of the children were interesting, with the spoiled pretty one and quiet studious one. But too obvious as it was clear that they echoed Amber's belief of the world and how people got on. Including 'one can never be too thin' from the various wives and the 'blue blood' being horsey. All of these are characters we have met before. Which was disappointing.

A twisted and gripping plot that will keep the pages turning. It all It just goes to show that quiet people may not be everything you think they are .Put aside a day or so to read this because you won't be able to put it down

Unfortunately I had to DNF this one. I really struggled to get into it and struggled with the format.

I don't like DNFing books or ebooks. I feel like I'm betraying the story and the work the authors put in.

But sometimes, dear reader, things happen either within the book or in the real world that makes you go "I don't want to read this" and so, you put it down and walk away.

And that's, sadly, what I did with The Last Mrs Parrish late last year. Yes, I have held-off telling you guys about it for a while as I wondered if I should tell you guys or not.

Now, before I go any further, mini disclaimer (not sure why am putting this down as it's an unspoken rule on this blog): everyone is allowed to have different tastes. Just because I didn't like this, doesn't mean you won't. You might like this so don't let me "I stopped here and here's why" put you off this book if you want to read this.

Now, before we go forward, let me explain that, I liked the writing and the good chunk of the story. The way I described this to my Other Half was its "bats*** addictive". I mean, why the main character was doing what she was doing and the level of crazy she was putting into her master plan was really compelling. It read a bit like a crazy US drama like Scandal or How To Get Away With Murder. I gobbled it up.

So, I hear you ask, why did you DNF this if it was addictive reading? Well... all throughout the first part of the book, there were tiny breadcrumbs that the perfect marriage - the marriage the main character wanted for herself - wasn't so perfect. That all that glittered wasn't gold. I spotted them very quickly so when we got into the second part, told from the wife's point of view, I was aware and went "Ok, there's might be a physical/emotional abuse here, so be on your guard". And while I saw it, something else happened. An element of another trigger warning happened - a sexual assault - and I won't read that. I have things I will not read and rape is one of them. That is a no go for me.

As soon as I saw that, I went "I'm done. I enjoy the writing, but I don't like this. I'm done."

And what's worse, is that I was a good way into the book. 63%. But I feel that I couldn't enjoy this the way I wanted to now this element was add. I know it was going to be addressed as this book got compared to Gone Girl, The Girl On The Train and Big Little Lies. But this wasn't for me.

So, for my own self, I put it down and decided to read something completely opposite from it.

Now, here's the thing. I liked the writing, I like the crazy within the plot and I feel that some of you guys will like it. I mean, I had the authors on my blog a few weeks ago, that's how much I liked this writing. But I had to take a step back from it due to that and read something else.

Not sure if this puts me in the publisher's bad books but reading should be fun and if you want to read this, go forth and read this!

My review is short.

If this was made into movie, I’d watch it.
Even a drama series.

To be acted out yep, but reading this was a little better but......audio, no way. I really hated that voice.

The women in this were not likeable.
I just couldn’t connect at all.

Varied reviews on this I know. I just don’t think I’m the audience for this.

400 pages. I think it was too long for what it was.

Amber Patterson is a con-woman out to steal the life of Daphne Patterson. I detested Amber. She is needlessly cruel, jealous and snide, and through her eyes, we're constantly hearing mean remarks and jabs, and quite frankly, it got boring. For the length of the book, spending so much time with such a repugnant character would have been okay if they were fleshed out and believable, but to me, Amber felt put-on; a caricature of what a nasty woman should be - a hard shell that was hollow inside. It's like we're told that Amber is this horrendous character instead of shown it. It comes across a bit brash and hamfisted, and needs some fine-tuning to come across as the slick, cruel character I think the author wants to portray. As it is, she's insufferable for all the wrong reasons.
I found the plot slow for the first section, and then the overall "mystery" pretty bland and predictable. I also found Daphne to be a very two dimensional, flat character, which was disappointing because her character may have redeemed the book enough to tolerate Amber if she was one we could root for. I also really did not enjoy the portrayal of horrendous domestic violence as her "comeuppance" for her behaviour. She deserved punishment, sure, but the suggestion that "some women get everything" and "some women get everything they deserve" i.e. domestic abuse is not one I could get behind.

Told from both Amber and Daphne’s point of view this book definitely has enough twists, turns and secrets that makes you sit up and want to read until the early hours of the morning.

You hated and loved both characters equally and you couldn’t wait to find out what happened! With a few skeletons in the closet and one wanting what the other has this is definitely a book if you enjoy twists and turns and don’t know who to trust!

I found this plot so complicated and convoluted that I was unable to finish it and skipped to the end.

If I'm brutally honest I struggled to get into this to start with due to my intense dislike to one of the main characters (Amber). I kept going even though I had a pretty good idea of where the plot was going (I was right), as it developed I became more involved and loved the character of Daphne. The characters were at times unbelievable but at the most believable. I did enjoy the story, especially the ending!

The story starts with Amber befriending wealthy golden girl Daphne who appears to have it all – the big house, the clothes, the loving husband, but Amber has plans. Bonding over their mutual grief for the loss of their sisters both the Cystic Fibrosis their friendship grows quickly but not all is as it appears. I’m not going to say any more as I would hate to spoil it for you, and you really need to read this yourself.

Wow! What a book – I had read lots of positive things about this on social media, and to be honest, I resisted jumping on the band wagon for a while, but I truly wish I hadn’t. The story drew me in right from the start, it was dark and sinister in parts and had more twists and turns then a roller coaster ride at Alton Towers.

I loved this book so much I am telling everyone I know to read it!!! Do yourself a favour, beg or borrow a copy and read this today – it’s a remarkable book and so far, my favourite read of 2019

I really enjoyed this book.
Amber was a great character, I found her really refreshing.
I loved how the dynamics of the book changed in the second part.
Highly recommend, great pschological thriller

This book had slipped down my TBR list - the thing with a kindle it isn't the same as having a pile of books and knowing you need to read them - as you add books others just slide off your radar. I just wish I hadn't taken so long to get around to reading this book as it was absolutely gripping.

The book does have quite a bit of scene setting at the beginning and I was starting to wonder why it was billed as a physiological thriller. Well just wait until you get to the second half of the book - that's when it really all kicks off and the white knuckle ride begins. This really is a case of a book of two halves.

The premise of the book seems simple enough and is laid out in the blurb, Amber is out to become the next Mrs Parrish and has a plan to make sure it happens. Whether or not she does I will leave you to find out, but don't rule out this book as a cut and dried plot. So many twists and turns - I just loved it.

I'm giving this book four out of five stars because of some niggles. I didn't realise until I finished the book and read the credits that the book is written by two sister authors, their names combined into Liv. On the whole I never noticed anything too glaring whilst reading, but now wonder if there was at least one continuity error because of this.

I read this in 1 sitting, all the twists and turns made my head spin. Unputdownable, will be recommending to my friends.

The Last Mrs Parrish was recommended last year by a friend and I’ve finally got around to reading it. It was not what I was expecting.

The first half starts with a young woman, a gold-digger, with her sights set on a rich, successful businessman. She befriends the wife and makes sure to insert herself into their lives. Step by step, she plans to seduce the husband, doing whatever she has to in order to get a ring on her finger.

Amber is a manipulative, cold character who was a love-to-hate type. She is loathsome with the depths she goes to. By following her narration, we know how she really feels and she’s cold through to the core. There was always this part of me that wondered how far she would go: you couldn’t deny that she puts the time and commitment into her plan, spending long hours studying to make sure she can impress the husband.

I admit, I was starting to get a bit bored. We knew what Amber was up to and the naivety of the other characters (as seen through her view) was growing irritation.

But then… Then the book completely turns on its head.

The second section is from Daphne’s perspective. The perfect wife for a rich man, she is beautiful, kind and considerate, prepared to open her home and her heart to a stranger because of a bond she thinks they share.

But life is not perfect for Daphne – far from it. I won’t go into details because the twists are what makes this such a gripping read. But she is not the naïve, push-over Amber believes and the development to Daphne’s character was fantastic. She cares deeply, but she isn’t above pulling a few strings when it comes to getting her own way – and looking out for her children. Don’t underestimate a woman with something to fight for.

No one is who they seem. The children – from Amber’s point of view – are ungrateful brats. But their reality is completely different. Jackson – the coveted prize – is far from the perfect husband and Amber is in for a surprise.

The pacing in the first half was slow – I was growing bored by the end of Amber’s section. But once things start changing, unravelling, it heats up dramatically. I couldn’t put it down, desperate to know if the characters were all going to get the endings they deserved.

Still without spoiling anything, I have to admit this is one of the most satisfying ends to a book I think I have ever read. Everything is tied up and brought to a close. The characters get what they deserve and you feel like punching the air in joy with how things worked out.

If you like a thriller, if you like to be kept in suspense, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It’s chilling, well-developed and leaves you guessing what will happen next. I love a book that isn’t predictable, and this certainly caught me out.

This book was a real slow starter, I’d say the first half of the book was purely sowing the seeds. I persevered however and wow what a great read.
The book features Amber, Daphne and Jackson. Daphne and Jackson are husband and wife and leading the life that everyone wants, especially Amber. But behind closed doors everything isn’t as it seems and Amber comes to regret her decision to become the next Mrs Parrish.
This book was a great read with a fantastic concept, I’m glad I eventually gave it a read!

I did find this book to be a bit of a slow starter but once it got going the story really kept me intrigued. The story is written from the points of view of the 3 main characters. I guarantee you will change you opinions of those characters as the story unfolds!!
Daphne, the wife. Amber, the friend - Or is she?!! and Mr. Parrish, the perfect husband.
All is not as it appears as you will discover.
Stick with it and you'll be sure to enjoy this book.
