This is an OH. MY. GOD. jaw-dropper of a book, with a tantalisingly slow burn which turns into a pretty explosive finale.
Gushing as that may sound (because it is) I loved this book from the moment i started reading - perhaps for no other reason that when I was a little girl my most favourite toys of all - the one's I would spend hours and hours playing with - were my dolls' houses. They weren't fancy handmade ones, as in this book - one was a Caroline's Home and the other a Sindy House - but they were my most prized possessions.
So the premise of little items from these most beloved of toys showing up, rather menacingly, in a grown woman's life had me sold from the start.
But there is so much more to this book - as it follows the lives of sisters Corinne (she who receives the dolls house pieces) and her older sister Ashley - in the run up to the first anniversary of their father's death.
There is domestic stress, fertility issues, financial worries - and that's not to mention the very raw grief the girls are experiencing - it would be enough to drive anyone mad.
Which is exactly what Corinne's nearest and dearest (her beloved boyfriend Dominic) fears is happening to his fragile girlfriend.
But of course it is more complicated than that - someone is playing a game behind the scenes - meticulously watching the sisters (as she has done for years) and biding her time until she can reveal the secrets of her own and claim what is rightfully hers.
With a lot of psych thrillers it's a difficult balance reviewing a book and it's strengths without revealing some of the twists and turns. What I can say is that is that this book doesn't just twist and turn - it leads the reader to a point where they simply don't know who to trust in the book - and even to question whether or not, perhaps. Corinne is reacting to too much stress in her life as she undergoes her fourth round of IVF in the hope of conceiving a much wanted baby.
But more than that twists and turns - this book is beautifully written - it creates such a sense of place, such a claustrophobic feeling in its pages that I found I had to keep reading and reading and do nothing else until I found out exactly what was going on.
When I turned the last page, I wanted more - while acknowledging the book finishes in the most perfect way.

This is one for book club discussions and I have no hesitation at all in recommending it as one of the strongest thrillers I have read this year. It is simply brilliant.

Wow this was such an engaging psychological thriller that is easily going on my favorites list for the year! Corinne and her boyfriend Dominic have been struggling to have a baby (this part just hit close to home). She begins getting pieces of a doll house that she and her older sister Ashley has when they were younger. At first Corinne believes this a sign she will be pregnant soon, but then as the pieces become more similar to the one they had, she starts feeling paranoid.

Ashley's life also looks picture perfect from the outside, a loving husband, three kids, and all that jazz, but like her sister, she has secrets. Her husband is often working late, her teenage daughter is becoming a teen terror, and even her baby is suffering from nightmares.

This is an AMAZING debut that weaves family secrets into two sisters daily lives. I was so tense during certain chapters because you had no clue what was going to happen. I had a hunch about who was behind it all, and even though I was right, this was still a page turner! I can't wait to read more from this author!

The dolls house, was an interesting read, and it's a good story, which built up the suspense slowly, it follows the story of Corinne, a young lady who has a seemingly idyllic life but beneath the surface she is mourning the death of her father and her failure to get pregnant, and then she starts finding little gifts of items from a dolls house her dad made her and her sister when they were little, so who,is leaving them for her ? A story of entwining stories which all call comes together at the end.

This was a thrilling ride. The mystery got off to a fast start and continued until the final pages. Corinne is a great protagonist because she is both relatable and interesting. I felt invested in her journey and this book made me scared of what was going to happen to her. Overall, this was a very satisfying mystery.

The Doll House is the debut novel by Phoebe Morgan. It is atmospheric, dark and unsettling in places, perfect for fans of Clare Mackintosh and Tammy Cohen. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers and if you're a fan of stories about sisters, you must read this.

Corinne and her husband Dominic are desperate for a baby. They have been trying for a few years to get pregnant and they are just about to embark on their fourth round of IVF treatment which could be their last hope. Corinne's sister, Ashley is fraught with worry that her partner maybe having an affair; her daughter Lucy is beginning to distance herself and now Ashley is receiving strange phone calls from an anonymous caller. Meanwhile, Corinne is starting to find objects that she believes come from the doll house her father built for her and her sister. Is someone stalking their family and if they are what do they want?

The Doll House was a gripping read. Phoebe's writing draws you into the story and keeps you hooked. I genuinely cared about her character's whilst I was reading. When Corinne was trying for a baby, I actually felt myself go tense when she was taking the pregnancy test which is the sign of great writing, Morgan's prose makes you want to read on and you won't be able to stop until you have turned the final page. I also really felt for Ashley as she battled to keep her daughter from slipping away from them and when it seemed that her world was toppling in on her.

Phoebe also introduces us to a mystery character who's viewpoint the book is also told from. Phoebe creates a great sense of mystery here and she had me wondering who this person was in connection to Corinne and Ashley.

The ending of this book was brilliant, I thought I had it worked out what was going to happen but Phoebe managed to totally surprise me. Her writing had me gripping the end of my seat and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, You won't be forgetting this one in a hurry.

A really enjoyable read. Phoebe Morgan is a talent to watch and I'll be keeping an eye out to see what she does next. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy to read.

Really enthralling. Very well constructed, kept the reader guessing until the very end. Portrays people with mental illness as very focused on what outcome they want. It shows how retribution doesn't have to be instant and how prolonged psychological attacks can have major impact on innocent people. Would highly recommend.

Corrinne and Ashley are sisters who are still grieving the loss of their father. As the one year anniversary of his death approaches, strange and ominous things start happening in both their lives. Ashley is getting crank calls, and Corrinne has reason to believe someone has been sneaking into her home. Corinne's boyfriend thinks it's just stress, between the death of her father and their failed attempts at IVF. Ashley has her own troubles, what with her husband supposedly "working" some very long hours. Each of the sisters want to avoid overly upsetting the other instead of confiding much in each other. The complexity of the relationships between the sisters and with their significant others felt so real. I never knew who to trust from one minute to the next.
Meanwhile someone has been watching the sisters from afar but they are no longer satisfied with just observing the life they think should have been theirs, they want revenge.
I would not have guessed this to be a debut novel, it was a most impressive psychological thriller, full of suspense and family drama.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

Corinne and Ashley are sisters still grieving nearly a year after the death of their beloved father. Ashley is a mother of three children and an increasingly distant husband James. Corinne is in a long term relationship with Dominic and is undergoing another round of IVF. Both sisters are dealing with different issues leaving them a little paranoid and emotionally strung out.

This book alternates between the "Here" and "Then" Who is the mysterious voice behind the then chapters? Morgan kept me engrossed throughout the book and I especially loved the flashbacks. Although I did figure out who was responsible for those chapters it really didn't detract from my enjoyment of this novel. The only small criticism I have is there is a little too much repetition in places.

Overall a very well written twisty psychological story. Will definitely look out for more by this author.

You shouldn't read this book unless you want to give up everything else in your life until you are finished with it. It really is that good.

From the beginning, you are aware that there is something strange going on with Corinne and her sister, Ashley, but you don't know quite what. As the story progresses, you glimpse the past and things begin to make sense, but only just. This story is told from different points of view, but instead of making it confusing for the reader, I thought it added to the overall atmosphere and feeling that not everything is what it seems.

I liked the way the author used a red herring or two in order to throw the reader off the trail. I figured out who was responsible before the halfway mark of the book, but it didn't matter because in the end it didn't go the way I expected it to. Knowing who did what was only half the excitement.

All of the unimportant things in life--you know--like eating, sleeping and bathroom breaks were shoved to the side while I read this compelling book. I could not stop turning the pages. Yep. I loved it. I suspect you will, too.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. The tile and cover drew me into this book and I ended up really enjoying. I liked how the chapters jumped back and forth between characters and you could know what each was thinking and feeling. I felt like all the characters didn't give Corrine enough credit and treated her too gently. I wish there were more possibilities of "who did it' to choose from as there were really only two characters in the book that you had to guess between. No spoilers involved but I think the ending was decent, but the last part was kind of unbelievable they she could just walk away. Overall, it was a good read and I'd really enjoy reading more from this author and publisher.

I think it's fair to say that the psychological thriller genre has had its fair share of hits and misses the past few months. Try as I might to stay away, there is always one that lures me back in. In the case of The Doll House, I have no regrets or complaints whatsoever!

Since the book description is so vague, I won't add anything to it. Suffice to say that while the "why" is reasonably obvious, it's the "who" that'll keep you guessing until there's this fantastic "aha" moment! I had a list of potential suspects and found myself zeroing on the wrong one for a while, which I always think is fun.

The Doll House is a bit of a slow burner but it has a constant and deliciously creepy, threatening vibe to it like a current of electricity crackling away under the surface. The author's superb writing sucks you in and doesn't let go as the story slowly builds up to a fabulous and jaw-dropping conclusion.

This is one tense and suspenseful ride. It's incredibly atmospheric, haunting and a true page-turner. I had a hard time putting it down. I have no doubt that The Doll House will be a hit as it's one fantastic and gripping psychological thriller. An absolutely amazing debut and I can't wait to see what Phoebe Morgan has in store for us next.

A brilliant physiological thriller! Devoured over 2 days.
Following the lives of a large family the story builds to an almighty climax full of intrigue, twists and turns along the way. I actually put the book down for a bit near the end as I really didn't want the story to be over. 5 stars from me!

This book is told from different prospectives. Corinne's chapters are told in the first person. As is the parts told by our unknown antagonist. The other character's parts, Dominic's (Corinne's boyfriend) and Ashley's (her sister) are told in the third person. Corinne is trying to get pregnant, Ashley is trying to deal with her always absent husband and her three children, Domonic is trying to convince Corinne to not worry so much and also deal with the upcoming one year anniversary of her beloved father's death. All these issues while seeming separate, help to bring about the final climatic few chapters. I read this book in the course of a day. I liked that with each chapter we were seeing another person's story. Sometimes it was the same story just from the other person's perspective. This kept the book moving at a nice pace and left me with a few cliffhangers until a specific person had they own chapter again. There was a lot of suspense and the ending was getting me to the edge of my seat. I am giving this a 3.5 star rounding up to 4. I will definiently be looking to read more of Ms. Morgan's work.

The Doll house is a haunting read that will leave readers clinging to the edge of their seats until the very end. Books like this are the main reason why I started reading in the first place and I can't wait to read more by the author. I loved this book and the way the author provided us a dark and brooding atmosphere to leave us chilled to the bone. Highly recommended!

Phoebe Morgan's first novel, The Doll house, is due to be published in September 2017. The Doll House explores themes of family secrets and how they can come back to haunt us in unexpected and frightening ways.

Corinne and her boyfriend Dominic have been trying unsuccessfully to start a family and are on their last cycle of IVF. Her sister Ashley has three children with husband James and is troubled that he is spending more and more time at work. As the novel progresses, the sisters each begin having some unusual experiences that cause them to doubt themselves and their perceptions. Several mysterious phone calls raise Ashley's suspicions about James's fidelity, while random pieces left from a childhood doll house leave Corinne feeling stalked and threatened. The story is told from multiple points of view and the plot alternates between past and present.

I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. The writing was good but I thought the story was somewhat predictable and too bogged down in details that became repetitive. More importantly, I figured out the plot twists and secret person way too early and I'm generally not a reader who tends to solve the mystery before the end of a book. In other words, I'm not that clever; I wish this thriller had held its cards a little closer to the vest.

Thank you to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting book. I liked the snippets of Erin's early childhood and how this fed into the story. I enjoyed how the story was told from different view points and thought the different characters had distinct voices. I enjoyed the ambiguity of the ending with June being present.
