FBI agent gone rogue Jane Hawk continues her relentless search for the shadowy organisation behind the death of her husband and the terrifying threats against her son. Yet more despicable acts are perpetrated against innocent people by a seemingly lone wolf home-grown terrorist in a close-knit Minnesota community.

Local sheriff Luther Tillman refuses to believe such a despicable act could have been carried out by a mild-mannered, much respected special needs teacher and digs into the life of the suspect, fuelled on by the FBI and Department for Homeland Security shutting him and his office out of the investigation. His discoveries led him to a town fully populated with people under nano-tech control. An inevitable collision course with Jane is inevitable given her trail of the senior members of The Arcadians leads her to the same pseudo-community.

Once again, Koontz has succeeded in creating a fast paced book thanks to short, pacy chapters and characters that as a reader I felt I could really invest in. New characters including Luther Tillman are highly likeable, while the villains of the story are utterly loathsome but not in a Disneyesque way. They were believable but utterly arrogant and self assured.

The story twists and turns towards its conclusion, unveiling layers upon layers that change the direction and dynamic of proceedings. Discovering there are more books in the series is a wonderful gift knowing I have more of Jane Hawk and her unwavering drive to uncover the truth yet to come.

DNF at 15%.

I just can't get into this book at all. I haven't read book one in the series, so that may be the reason. I found the writing style a bit dry and over descriptive. It felt quite droney and I kept zoning out.

A great, fast-paced thriller! While the heroine was, rather predictably, extremely beautiful, clever and able to get out of increasingly tight situations, I still couldn't put it down. The storyline is incredibly well-researched and quite topical. I was both annoyed and pleased that this is a four-part story, storming through the first and second books in a row. I'll wait for the fourth to be released in Dec-18 so I can read the third and fourth in one go.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Bantam Books/Random house, and the author Dean Koontz.
I. enjoyed this novel as much as the first in the series, an incredibly gripping story, once again.
Picking up right where 'The Silent Corner' left off, another edge-of-my-seat thriller, I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of this genre.
Looking forward to reading the third!

The Whispering Room picks up Jane's story and continues the relentless, edge-of-your-seat action from The Silent Corner. It takes us deeper into dangerous territory as Jane works harder than ever to uncover exactly who is behind the increasing suicide rates and the terrifying nanotechnology she's discovered. Her son is at risk and that means she will do whatever it takes to end this conspiracy, or she'll die trying.

It's so hard to go into much detail about this series because I honestly don't want to give anything away but this is Dean Koontz at his best. I think what makes it so frightening is that it really isn't that hard to imagine that this technology exists, or at least could do in the very near future, and it's definitely not hard to believe that the powerful and wealthy elite are willing to use that technology to further their own agenda without a care for the normal working class people it affects the most.

Jane is a fantastic character, she's smart and absolutely ruthless when it comes to uncovering this conspiracy. She knows the only way to protect the people she cares about is to bring this out into the open and put a stop to it but she's in such an impossible situation and she has no way of knowing who can be trusted. She has great instincts though and she's not the only one who has reason to be suspicious of recent events so she picks up a few allies along the way.

This series is definitely one I can't wait to continue and I'm glad we have two new books to look forward to in 2018!

Another great book with #JaneHawk doing her thing! Well written with lots of twists and turns, leaving you in suspense at so many points!

I read this book as soon as I'd finished 'The Silent Corner' and actually thought this one was the better of the two. Jane Hawk is still eluding the FBI and is still on the trail of criminals - discovering they're using technology to assist them in their evil intentions. She's a strong character but you do glimpse her softer, feminine side at times which makes her more appealing. I believe the books are going to be made into a TV series and I can understand why as they feature a no nonsense gutsy heroine, they're fast moving, and have lots of action.

I read the this book first by mistake rather than the Silent Corner. However it stood really well on its own and you didn't need the first one to set up the characters.. I really empathised with the character Jane Hawk and her trusted people. I found it interesting and horrifying how easy it sounded for this type of brainwashing to happen. I thought the book was well written, exciting and left me looking forward to the 3rd book in the series.

What another fantastic book to read in the Jane Hawk series. You have to read book 1 first otherwise this book won’t make a lot of sense.

This book continued right on from where the first book finishes. Jane certainly has more than 9 lives as we read about her trying to get to the bottom of the strange behaviour while at the same time protecting those she loves.

A bit perplexed at how, like book 1, this one ends so I await the next instalment!

The second Jane Hawk novel and the pace picks up, except that it doesn't really. We meet new characters which is great and the whole middle part was interesting, but the ending left me quite disappointed.
Lacking some of the fire of the first book, but still written in that wonderfully dark and disturbing style that is synonymous with Dean Koontz. I'm really hoping that the next one ties things up and gives a sense of resolution, and fingers crossed that it's just a trilogy - I'm not sure if it's sustainable at a level beyond that.

I did enjoy this book a lot but not as much as the first one in the series.

This book continues directly after the end of the first book and I liked that. I loved the continuity in the plot because it just made the series flow so well. Jane, the main character, is still hunting down the people who murdered her husband, and staged it to look like a suicide, and she becomes increasingly desperate and more ruthless. It's a great progression from the first book and I thought the plot well thought out and really engaging.

I still really liked Jane as a protagonist because she's skilled, strong, and intelligent. She's a female action hero but she has flaws and a softer side, which doesn't emerge often, and that's why I like her so much. Her motivations, to avenge her husband and look after her son, are relatable and realistic. She's not doing this for some moral reason that normal people can't understand, she's doing it for her family.

The writing was gripping and fast-paced. All of the action is captivating and the description is vivid. However, I did feel like this book was a bit too long and the start was a bit too slow. This is why I didn't like this book as much as I liked the first. It just took a bit too long to get started even though it continued on from the first book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'd definitely recommend it to thriller fans or people who like strong, female protagonists. Jane is a great character and her story is worth reading.

A great female lead character and an almost unbelievable storyline.

Firstly, this book continues where its predecessor ended so, if you haven't already read The Silent Corner, I really do recommend you do so before starting this book. Yes, there's a bit of catch up to be found in this book if you haven't but, in my opinion, it's really just included as a memory jogger rather than a proper catch-up and you really do need the full picture in order to fully understand what happens next. If you haven't read book one and intend to do so, I would also advise not reading this review further as it may include spoilers from that book, but not this one.
So we reconnect with Jane no longer just an annoyance, she has been upgraded to a dangerous fugitive,a rogue agent, so she needs to up her game to evade the bad guys (and duped good ones) successfully. Having managed to glean further information at the end of book one, she now focuses her energy on the next name on the list but to do that, she needs more information which she has few qualms about how she gets. Meanwhile, we meet Cora, a former teacher of the year, she has been off work for a wee while due to migraines. sound familiar?! Anyway, it seems that the powers that be have upped their game. Not satisfied with just controlling people to commit suicide, they coerce Cora into murder suicide, taking out multiple casualties in a shocking single act as she takes her own life spectacularly. But luckily, not everyone is convinced by her guilt and there is one who tries to investigate further, managing to sneak out some further evidence before the clean-up is complete. So now we have two on the case, two who are following the clues. Will they hinder or help each other, and will they manage to get to the bottom of what is going on and cut off the head once and for all.
There are a lot of positives to be had from this book. Even considering its length, it is extremely readable. That said, there is also an awful lot of unnecessary padding (in my opinion anyway).Little aside stories that really don't add enough to warrant their inclusion apart from slowing down one character or the other so they converge at the right time. The other thing that did grate on me, again given the length, is that the story doesn't really progress that much in this volume. It's more like a whole bunch of more evidence that what is happening is bad and scary; yep, already knew that! I'm doing the book an injustice a bit with this sweeping statement as there are necessary key things that are discovered in this book but not nearly enough to cover the 500 odd pages needed to impart these to the reader. There are a few neat fight scenes of course and some interesting interactions that didn't quite go where I thought they were destined. That said, I have invested quite a bit of time in this story so far so I will definitely be buying into book three. I just hope that it moves the story along a bit faster.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A thrill a minute read.

This is a really great sequel to the Silent Corner. To be honest I was not blown away by the first Jane Hawk book, but after reading the Whispering Room I find myself itching in anticipation for the finale. I found myself putting aside any preconceptions and getting sucked into a narration that kept up the amazing pace of the first book whilst adding in a few great characters and emotional side stories.

Thanks NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for a review copy.
Oh, and thank you Dean Koontz for a great read!

I loved the first book in this series with Jane Hawk and was keen to read the latest instalment. I have to say although I enjoyed this book I think the first one just edged it for me. It was still a great pacy storyline and as usual Koontz draws you in with his great storytelling. I was impressed with the way he left the book not with a cliffhanger which makes me want to read the next book more. All in all another great book from this master storyteller.
