I do like this writers style and sense of humour she also writes very poignant books that made you think.this is the second book of her's I have read and although it is very different to my usual thrillers ,sci fi, etc I think she has cornered the market in books of this genre for me, and in fact I very rarely read book in this genre but will always make an exception to read this writer. Thanks to the Publishers and Netgalley for an ARC.

A fun and thoughtful insight into the trials of getting old while feeling young and reminiscing about life. So true in many respects .

Cait and Matt are a middle aged couple whom for them, life has settled into the mundane same old of work, particular clubs they're involved separately in, children who've flown the nest and moved away and meeting up with friends and family when they can and if they're still actually around to meet up with.

For Cait, she remembers their younger days and wishes for those to be how they are with each other now, if only. So when Lorna and Deb's her two closest friends pick up on Matt's behaviour alike Cait they're all equally surprised to learn of him being made redundant suddenly.

For Cait though, an old flame, first love Tom Lewis shows up on Facebook wanting to friend her and suddenly Cait is torn between her life now or Tom's way of 'adventure calling' life to choose from.

This is a rather push and pull story of how need and want but lack of communication makes a relationship suffer and especially in the case of Cait and Matt and the pair both start getting on top of each other alone in their house together a lot as the story plays out. I was happy however with how the plotline did work out and that their bond did strengthen after what happened and really found myself enjoying this book and felt sad when it ended!

Another great work by Cathy, after reading her all my teen life and now in adulthood too, it's great to see her work in adult fiction is as strong as her teen and children's fiction is too.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

This was a mostly hilarious and occasionally slightly sad look at life approaching retirement. I quickly warmed to the main character, not so perfect Cait, who has lost both her mum and best friend in the last few years and felt for her husband Matt who is forced into making a great changes to well ordered life. Matt has always been the main breadwinner, working in TV when, as age creeps up on him, he is made miserably redundant. Meanwhile Cait who is used to having the home to herself weekdays busies herself with Zumba, housekeeping, surfing the net and dreaming of a life as an author. When her maternity leave position as a receptionist comes to an end she also finds herself jobless and both she and Matt begin to be too much under each others feet. A blast from the past, in the form of Cait's old boyfriend, Tom means that Cait is pushed into deciding whether she wishes to make a go of things with Matt or make a new life with Tom Along the way trials and tribulations are shared with her two friends, Lorna and Debs and all in all it makes a light-hearted enjoyable read, particularly for those approaching that 'Over the hill' time of their lives!.

This is a very funny novel about Cait and Matt, whose marriage has lost its sparkle. They have stopped communicating with each other, and Cait has contacted an old flame on Facebook.
Her friends urge her not to leave Matt, but she still meets him 3 times before Matt finds out. Both partners in this marriage are at fault, because they refuse to really communicate to each other how they really feel, and what they want from the marrige.
Luckily in the end, with a couple of hiccups, and three or four sessions with marriage counsellors, they resolve their differences, and the plot is neatly resolved.
This book was easy to read, kept drawing you on to find out what happened, and the characters were very like people we all know. Thank you to the publishers, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this.

Brilliant humorous lit for the 40+mid-life chick

Brilliant, fast-paced quirky plot and loveable characters will make you spend a few enjoyable hours laughing about their shenanigans.
I was given a free copy by netgalley/publisher Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction in return for my honest review.

A really good, funny read. I laughed a lot reading this book. It was really well written and looked at a marriage from both sides and what it's like to be forced into retirement. Definitely worth reading,

This book was not for me.... an interesting premise but I found the characters irritating & rather one dimensional. Neither the main character or her husband seemed capable in texting in whole words. I know plenty of sixty year olds... they can all use “see you” rather than c u.

I understand that the story may amuse some people, just not for me. It’s bubblegum for the brain. Sorry...

After a slow start for me with this book I was surprised to find I enjoyed it. Uncomfortable reading at times as it brought attention to areas in my own life that need work! Overall a great read.

Marriage guidance for those who've been married 25 years or more! Every one who has been married for more than 25 years needs to read this. This relationship will resonate with so many people.
It is funny, heart warming, heart breaking, family relationships all tossed together, with how to get the romance back into a long term relationship. A very readable, lovely funny book..

Funny, touching, and food for reflection for those of a certain age. Had to read certain passages aloud to my mates, as they wondered what I was chuckling about. Loved the sharing of the lists at the end as well, making the story useful as a motivational read for those on the edge of retirement. Loved it!

If you are looking for a laugh out loud, funny book then look no further. This book had me giggling so much I had to go to bed to read it because I was 'disturbing' my husbands tv viewing!
Funny, poignant, thought provoking and true to life.
I loved it!

A fun light-hearted read but with a great underlying story about how the dynamics of a marriage change over the years and as we enter retirement. Add to this, an unexpected redundancy, the death of loved ones, kids leaving home and friends who have been a) widowed and b) left for a younger model, and then a first love reappearing via facebook you have the recipe for an entertaining story. My only complaint was the 60 something main character being given a 20 something name!!

I read the authors previous book and enjoyed it so much I was keen to read this one. As a mature lady myself, I enjoyed reading about a couple heading for retirement for a change. In parts I could identify with the main characters and couldn't put the book down once I'd started it. Look forward to reading more from this author.

This is the first book I've read from Cathy Hopkins and I was intrigued by the concept of an older couple finding their marriage at a bit of a crossroads following a series of life changes.
Central to the book are Cait and Matt who have been married for 30 years and are now in their 60s and starting to wonder what the next stage of their lives together will bring - or even if they have a future together at all.
Matt has lost his job and is struggling to find his sense of identity. Cait is struggling with the new dynamics of her husband being at home, under her feet and dealing with his crisis while she is dealing with a series of serious events in the last year of her life.
This book follows their journey together and gives the reader a lot of food for thought - especially about how relationships can change over the years and whether or not being "comfortable" together is enough.
There is a lot of humour in this book - especially Cait's lists. My sympathy tended to lie more with Matt, who is trying to understand what is going on his wife's head.
I found myself genuinely willing them to stay together, and for Cait to realise what a good man Matt was.

This is a warm-hearted read, with a lot of twists of turns, and some really tender moments. Cait's father is one to watch - he is a brilliant character with a sound head on his shoulders.

This was simply hilarious, yes there was a poignancy to it but it was fun to read.
Cait and Matt have been married for 30 years... who doesn't get comfortable in their role as wife/husband in that time? But when there are big changesin life, that role is threatened, your position in the home changed...who are you now? What are you meant to do?
As I read, I went through those changes with them, utterly absorbing, hilarious and thought provoking.

A nice novel with some really funny/heartwarming moments, but I feel, as a 26 year old, that I may not be the target audience.
