This wasn't quite what I expected and to be honest it really wasn't one of my favourite books that I've read lately. It's my first from this particular author and I will try another.

We meet a recently widowed, heavily pregnant not to mention seriously depressed Annie. Her sister suggests a holiday in Wales which is where things begin to go awry for me.

I'm not a fan of paranormal or spirit books, I suppose it's because I'm not a believer,

Read for an honest review. Thanks to E. A. Clark, #Netgalley and HQ Digital

I like thrillers, but i usually don't like to have the supernatural included in them. However, this book worked for me! It was fast paced and exciting, and I will definitely recommend it.

Very descriptive and immersive storyline. The world-building is impeccable and I cannot wait to read more from this author.

Thank you for the advanced copy of this book.

This is not my usual genre. I don’t usually read anything about spirits or the supernatural but I gave this a go! I’m glad I did because once I started I finished in one sitting!

Annie has lost her husband just as she finds out she’s expecting their first baby. She is finding things hard so books a break away. But at the holiday cottage things start getting weird!

The ending was a good twist but left things open so who knows.... maybe we’ll see more from Annie!

Annie lost her husband and then found out that she was expecting a baby. Annie's sister sends her to a remote cottage in Anglesey for a relaxing vacation as she is in the middle of a breakdown and heavily pregnant... Unfortunately, Annie does not have the relaxing stay she is hoping for, instead, she finds herself being haunted by a spirit. The characters in this story are interesting. Annie needs to get rid of the spirit and to do this she needs to go back and solve a crime. I did enjoy the book, however, found the ending and being left hanging a bit disappointing bur perhaps this will be the first of a series of books.

Wow. This book was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Was creepy, dark and really tragic parts. The story ended on an amazing cliffhanger and now we can only hope there will be another in the series. My favourite part of this book was the setting in rural Wales. Was written really well and a very different setting than normal. A very good read

"Some secrets never stay buried for long..."

I don't know about this one. Whilst I feel like this was a good effort, I also think at times that it was a bit filled with poetic license and was somehow on the verge of being...silly? unbelievable? I'm not sure what the right words is. Yes, I realise that this is fiction and there were some portions of this novel that I thought were beautifully written, but then there were other times when I just couldn't imagine the characters being so gullible.

This is part romance, part thriller, part paranormal and the overall effect for me, was that for a shorter book, there was almost too many genres going on at the same time. It is an easy read and will satisfy your urge for something you don't have to focus on too hard if that is what you are seeking.

I didn't think the characters were bad, and the plot was okay, if a bit predictable at times. It was okay, and I think this author will have a bright future if she keeps working on her fiction novels as time goes on.

Overall, I was glad I read it.

Unfortunately, I was unable to read this book as I could not get into the story or the characters. I was putting it down faster and picking it up slower. Thank you for the opportunity to read this novel.

Annie and her husband didn't part on good terms the night he lost his life in a tragic accident. She's having a hard time to accept what happened. Annie finds out she's pregnant and this makes her even more emotional. Her husband wanted nothing more than to start a family and he would have been an exceptional father. Annie's sister thinks it would be good for Annie to stay in Wales for a while. Peter, who's a co-worker of Annie's sister, knows a secluded country cottage where Annie can get some much needed rest and relaxation. The place is being owned by a sweet old couple and they are planning to take good care of her. Will Annie find the peace and quiet she's looking for?

As soon as Annie enters the cottage she feels that she isn't alone. In the beginning she tries to brush it off by convincing herself she's got a vivid imagination, but when a ghost is materializing before her eyes she has no other choice but to believe. The ghost is angry and for some reason it's attacking Annie. Annie needs to protect herself and her unborn child. Will she be able to keep herself safe?

Lay Me to Rest is a gripping story. Annie finds herself in a troublesome situation and seeks help to discover why the ghost at the cottage is so mad and restless. Annie is so much stronger than she gives herself credit for and I loved the fact that she doesn't shy away from difficult situations. I was very anxious to find out the reason why the ghost seemed so attached to Annie and this kept me on the edge of my seat.

Lay Me to Rest is a creepy ghost story that chilled me to the bone. I actually had to stop reading for a few days because my husband wasn't home. This story scared me so much that I didn't dare go to my bedroom alone. I must have been a detective in a former life, because I always love a good mystery. Sometimes I succeed in cracking the 'case' before I get to the end, but E.A. Clark has included plenty of unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing all the way to the finale. The eerie circumstances were described vividly, which made it even easier to lose myself into the story. I hope that Lay Me to Rest is the beginning of a brilliant new series, because I can't wait to read more about Annie.

Lay Me to Rest was such a fantastic read---it hooked me from the start, and I was sad to finish it. The story follows Annie, a pregnant widow as she tries to take a vacation and focus on her health only to be roped into a ghostly mystery. The book definitely kept me guessing from start to end, and I loved the eerie tone maintained throughout. I look forward to reading more works by E.A. Clark!

This ghost story has more than a few surprises along the way as recently bereaved expectant mother, Annie, goes to stay in a cottage in Wales only to discover she's not the only inhabitant.

Whilst it loses one star for the improbability of no one smelling a decaying corpse, overall, this is fast paced, engaging and clearly open for a sequel that I'd love to read.

This book is far too supernatural for my and as a result I wasn't able to finish it. From the description I thought it was a mystery, sorry!

Annie suddenly finds herself a young widow when her husband dies and as if that isn't enough also unexpectedly pregnant. She needs a break and ends up in Wales and becomes a catalyst for ghostly goings on. So far, so good with some quite creepy moments and I enjoyed it, but feel that the book should have finished when that particular mystery was solved. The last part seemed a bit unnecessary and the ending?? A follow up or series? If there was I would read it/them. This was an easy to read, not too scary story, just right for readers who don't want to be frightened out of their wits! Great cover and interesting idea.

Lay Me to Rest was one of those books that just hooked me in from the very first page and I didn't put it down until I was finished. I found it utterly page turning and engrossing.

Annie Philips is recently bereaved, her husband died in a tragic accident and she is pregnant with his child. In an attempt to get away from all that her grief brings her she rents a cottage in Anglesey. She hopes for a change of scenery, fresh air and a new start. The people at the cottages are friendly and amiable, her neighbour Peter is a bit peculiar but Annie doesn't worry to much. That is until ghostly goings on start occurring, Annie finds this unsettling, upsetting and disturbing, it becomes clear that something has happened at the cottage in the past. Annie with the help of others is determined to find out what, and perhaps lay the ghosts to rest.

There is a real mystery involved in this book, suspense is built up wonderfully across several chapters. I couldn't wait to find out the truth of what had happened. I loved the ethereal quality of this novel, although at times the plot had a certain menace to it and an edgy undertone, never quite knowing what is going to happen next.

I don't read many books with a supernatural element to them, preferring to keep my feet firmly on the ground. This one however had all the elements that have made it the superb story that it is.

Vivid imagery and an excellently described setting puts the reader right in the heart of the action and I for one would love to read anything else by this author in the future.

This debut adult novel from E. A. Clark is ominous from the start. We enter into a story of grief as Annie's husband has died and made her a widow at an early age... just to find out she's pregnant with their child. This is also a story about secrets coming to light and a ghost that needs to be heard. A fast paced book, the writing takes a little getting used to but doesn't take away from the read once you have conquered it.
The author does a fantastic job with providing you an eerie setting. Weirdly I had just talked about how I had woken up thinking I had heard a whispery, ghostly voice saying my name right in my ear. To see this happening in this book just made my own experience all too real and now I feel weird being home by myself late at night. 😬
I think the readers will be surprised at the paranormal aspect of the book going in as it isn't clear in the blurb. I do think that once you are aware of it (which is pretty obvious from the start) then your mind will start to wrap around the story and really feel for Annie and what she's going through. A proper atmospheric ghostly read and those who like this subtle genre won't be disappointed.
