I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Taking a break from my usual genre of book, I choose this one. The plot was certainly intriguing and the book as whole, was refreshingly different to read, I, however, couldn't bring myself to like Julia at all!.
She was supposedly drawn to Ben; but I couldn't picture their connection because of her rudeness; and comments towards him. She only seemed to be nice to/about him when he wasn't around!
Liked the plot, just not the characters.

The premise of the book was really interesting and it's the first thing that made me interested in the book and of course, the title. It was a quick and entertaining read for sure. I wasn't happy with all the decisions and chances that Julia took but I can understand what she thought. We really can't ignore a man like Ben who is intelligent and caring and wants his relationship to work.

There is not a lot of things going on in terms of plot. It basically involves Julia chasing Ben to Vancouver and wandering aimlessly in that city in the hope of finding him.

Overall, it's an okay-ish new-adult chick-lit romance.

Funny and vibrant tale of finding love outside your comfort zone, I devoured this book in a weekend and can't wait to see what the author comes up with next!

*Disclaimer: This book was sent to me for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was translated from the original Swedish by Nichola Smalley.

I went into this expecting a quirky and quick contemporary story, and though quick, I did have quite a few problems with this book overall.

Firstly, insta-love. I don't mind romance in stories; in fact sometimes that is my favourite aspect of a book if it is done well. This novel however sees the female protagonist meeting her love interest and immediately they are talking about marriage and love. I found it completely unrealistic, particularly because at the time Ben was homeless and smelling "rancid". I understand that the author was trying to create a protagonist in Julia that was relateable and lonely, but it just made her a little irritating.

The second thing was the protagonist herself. Many other reviews have pointed out that this is a thinly veiled version of events that happened in the author's own life and I would have to agree. It seemed that the author was trying to make her personality more palatable but I just found Julia to be very self-centred and stuck up.

Finally, this is something that annoyed me that I've only seen mentioned in a couple of other reviews. Not only does Julia use the word "retard" randomly which is not okay, but she also makes jokes that fall completely flat and feel like an attempt to make her oh-so-quirky. I'm not sure whether this was the fault of the author or the translator but it's definitely something the publisher should have picked up on.

Overall I felt that this book was trying to tell a 'New Girl' kind of comedy but instead it was flat and slow and felt like a documentary. I would not recommend this.

I really enjoyed the book. The story was a unique one for me and the characters were very well written.

I really enjoyed this book. When Julia and Ben meet Ben is homeless. This story is based on how the author met her husband. It is a beautiful heart warming story. I laughed a lot and read it in one sitting. I would definitely recommend this book.

Funny, full of life and based on a true story. Is it possible for Julia and Ben to find their happy ever after and overcome the hurdles and obstacles of a very quirky relationship.
This is not my usual genre but was happy to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. The author had me cheering them on and crying with laughter, a heartwarming and throughly enjoyable read.

This was a fun and quirky read that really read more like I was watching a brilliant romantic comedy.

A lovely read. I first heard about the book whilst listening to the radio and thought what a novel idea! I was thrilled to see that it was available to review and jumped at the chance. I wasn’t disappointed. The novel is based on true life with a few fictional senarios and characters added in. I would class this as a easy, fast and enjoyable read. I hope Emmy will write more.

This is a nice, easy read book loosely based on real life events in the authors life. It's nothing spectacular but an ok read to while away an afternoon.

This book is a little gem! Not a long read but funny and lighthearted. Don't want to create to high expectations but it was so lovely to read

The title attracted me and it was a quirky book half based on truth, in fact reading the author's notes at the end I think some of it could have adhered more to the truth than the fiction. There are obviously snippets from real life particularly accounts of the author's life as a teacher of English at a language school. I didn't find it as funny as I thought I might but it had it's own charm. It was a little slow and a little fragmented and was divided into fairly short chapters which would make it ideal as a read for when life is disrupted or for on a journey.

I thought the section where the Julia goes to Canada in search of Ben was somewhat unnecessary and would have done better to stay in Europe which the author obviously knows better and was more true to the original story. I think as well, I didn't really take to Julia as a character and found her somewhat obsessive and annoying whereas Ben was just Ben and the quirky part of the partnership.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but the title is so s is the modern love story of Julia who lives in Vienna and Ben who lives in a bush! There is sharp humour, warm humour, genuinely funny laugh out loud humour and love love love running through this book. We read of Julia and bens ups and downs and watch as their relationship develops and unfolds, and we also learn how the rest of the world perceives them!
Really enjoyed it and you will too!

After seeing Emmy and her husband on This Morning a few weeks ago, talking about their unique first meeting and how they fell in love, it piqued my interest into learning more about their story. Although this is a fictional novel, the true story of Emmy and how she met her husband seemed like a plot straight from a romantic comedy so making it in to a novel seemed the perfect way to recount what happened. Obviously, names have been changed, the story added to and fictionalised, it stands out in it's own right as an enjoyable, uplifting book even if you didn't know the events of the author.

I thought this was a strange very random book about meeting someone who lived in a bush and then falling in love with them.
The woman was Swedish and taught English in Vienna and the male was Canadian and ended up in Vienna, having backpacked around different countries.
I am not sure who this book would appeal to, I thought it was very silly.

I honestly don't know why I wanted to read this one. Reading the synopsis back it sounds so bizarre, but I like quirky books, and this was definitely that. Plus, that synopsis, however weird, also sounds so charming.

This book is actually based on the true-story of the author and how she met her own husband. Considering the way that Ben is described, often being the odour, it is fairly challenging to find the perfect romance in this story, but the author did manage to make you fall in love with the couple, which deserves praise on its own. Also, the underlying message about being non-judgemental is an important one! The book is definitely quirky, it isn't your average love story, but that's, perhaps, why it is so interesting.

The book was set in Vienna, and the authors' description of the city is beautiful! The characters were also written well, although there wasn't too much depth to them. But the way they were written made you warm to them throughout the story, and made you root for Ben and Julia's romance.

Overall, this is a charming, cute and quirky read. I honestly think that the synopsis sounded like so much fun, and while the book was interesting, I feel as though a lot of the fun could have been lost in translation, as this one just didn't quite live up to expectation. That being said, it was still a worthy read, which I enjoyed and I would recommend it to those who, like me, found the synopsis charming.

I chose to read this book because it was set in Vienna, a city I know rather well. For me, that was the best thing about this book that is billed as a romantic comedy. The humour it portrays is not really my thing, and there were times that I struggled to read this to the end. 29 year old Swedish Julia is an aspiring writer whose plots for novels are echoes of existing books. She came to Vienna to be with her then boyfriend, weed smoking Mathias, but their relationship broke apart. She teaches conversational English at a Berlitz school. She works every hour she can get as her personal life is a disaster, socialising with Lenore who she does not like very much, her best friend, Rebecca, and others who work at the language school.

One day the lonely Julia meets 24 year old Canadian Ben, a homeless man, who leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to personal hygiene, who gives her a time and place for a date. Despite misgivings, Julia turns up, and feels attracted to him. The only problem is that she can't see him fitting into her social circle, and he lives in a bush at the Stadt Park. Her friends do give her a hard time about him, and she sets out to change him, seeing herself in the role of Professor Higgins and Ben as Eliza Dolittle. Their romance faces some rocky obstacles. An okay read, but not something that particularly appealed to me. At the end of the story we learn that the author's romance with a homeless man echoes that of the book. Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC.

I was draw. To this book by the quirky title but I’m afraid I found it lacking in humour it was trying to give off and very slow
