Excited to find out this will soon be appearing on Netflix! Love love loved it!
I finished this book (as of writing this) three days ago and I'm still trying to catch my breath. This, my friends, is how you write a psychological thriller! I had seen the fantastic reviews pouring in, so I was hopeful that it would be a great read, but I've read so many great books lately that I figured I would enjoy it and move on easily enough. I was wrong. I am STILL thinking about this book constantly; the characters, the setting, the tension is still knotted up deep in my brain somewhere and refuses to leave. This very well might be one of my top reads of 2021

The Woman in the Window by AJ Finn ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Anna is an agoraphobic child psychologist who, whilst stuck in her house in Harlam, believes she witnesses a murder but because of her fragile mental state no one believes her.

Really enjoyed how the author doesn’t give too much away at the beginning of the book but as Anna starts to unravel so does the story, with lots of twists that will keep you guessing right to the end.

However, I really wasn’t keen on all the old movie references, maybe if I’d seen any of them they would of been more meaningful but after I while they just got on my nerves!

Overall it was a well paced thriller, with interesting characters but we only really get to know Anna and found it hard to connect to her because she was such an unreliable protagonist.

I did struggle to read this book, had to keep coming back to it. But as a thriller, the book revolves around Anna, a doctor a psychologist and works with children. Anna however is suffering from Agoraphobia, where she fears to go outside the house. Her life is little different from others because of her fear she cant go outside and had to stay inside the house.

Anna likes to sit near her window and check on her neighbors, street and surroundings through her camera rather than at her door, in the garden or outside anywhere. When a new neighbour arrives, she meets Ethan, the second character within this book.

One day she hears Ethan’s mother scream from his home and anna tries to confront his father of which he denies about any such scream but she knew something was wrong.

The story of woman in the window was fast paced, it was so gripping and full of surprises. How will Anna prove a crime has been committed? How can she prove it when she doesn’t go outside? There are a lot of twists and turns within this book and the writer dealt with Anna’s anxieties really well.

4.75!

This book is amazing! No wonder loads were reading this the year it came out. As for me? I left it on my shelf. I get really anxious if loads are loving a book. I’m either thinking “ oh what if I don’t love it” or just keep putting it off because I have high expectations.

This all proved to be right though. I agree with lots of what reviewers have said.

It’s mysterious and I definitely didn’t get a sniff in the air of the ending until the last few chapters.
The chapters are short, snappy and leading into the next. So that left me saying “ just one more chapter” .........

The reason I took a while to read this was it had a lot of pages, plus, daily life got in the way along with I’ve been feeling so tired lately. Otherwise I would have flew through this book.

There has been so much hype about this book and I finally got around to reading it. Well the hype was correct. This was honestly one of the best books I’ve read in a while. . Believe the hype this book is excellent.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

A story about a woman who suffers from agoraphobia witnesses a tragedy from the safety of her window. Being led to believe that what she saw is a figment of her imagination, Ann is led down a path of confronting her past, trying to grasp a hold on reality and proving her sanity to every person in her life.

This is a solid thriller and very well written but the plot twists were quite predictable which did not take away from the story at all but the element of shock and surprise was missing a little in this novel.

4.5 stars

The woman in the window is a gripping story that kept me glued to my seat until the last page. It's a heartbreaking story, one that makes you more aware that mental health is very important and we never know who has to deal with it or how they are coping with because it's very often misunderstood or mistaken with other qualities or flaws that one person has. I can't recommend this book enough from the great writing to the characters that are so reliable and the story overall it's just so powerful.

A book full of twists and turns, just when you think you are on the right path, something will change and you are back to guessing again. I really like this as you have to expect the unexpected and are usually left wide mouthed by the end. This book definitely did this.
I couldn’t put it down, it was fantastic. For a debut novel A.J. Finn did an amazing job at drawing their audience in. I can’t wait to read more from the author.

This is a fast paced thriller. It doesn’t change the world but it’s a good read. This book has a similar storyline to some other books.
Chapters are short and hard hitting. Making the fast moving plot speed by.
This is a cosy fast paced thriller that wasn’t spoiled by the plot being obvious

I found this book to be a bit hard going, it’s a very slow start, intriguing but confusing as it takes the reader a while to work out what’s going on.
I actually abandoned it after a while as I couldn’t get into it, but I picked it up again on holiday and found the last few chapter when everything unfolds a really good read and hard to put down.
So persevere if you can as the ending it’s worth it!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.

What really happens inside someone’s house? Do we really know our neighbours? And can what we see and hear really be trusted?

An interesting thriller with twists and turns, making you doubt this unreliable narrator - did she really see that or has her obsession with old movies seeped into her real life?

A good book with a nice tight ending, a great idea, although it started out a little slow and I found the minor twist in the middle to be obvious. The ending was good - I kicked myself a little for not working it out before!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book n exchange for an honest review.

Anna lives alone, a recluse in her New York apartment. She spends her time watching old movies, and her new neighbours.
I easily guessed some of the twists but overall I enjoyed this and read it in one sitting.

No way am I giving away any spoilers for this, it is a must read for fans of psychological thrillers.

'The Woman in the Window' is a psychological thriller full of suspense and surprises. I have never read such a cinematic book, and I love this style. The whole novel is told in short, stabbing chapters that flicker past like scenes from a movie. The whole feel of the book is the atmosphere of a classic film noir and it works perfectly.

I love the layering up of the Hitchcockian ambience with the background of black and white movies playing alongside the plot, some giving clues, some misdirecting, some adding suspense or sadness. You won't miss out on the plot if you aren't familiar with these, but it's a nice extra for those who do know them.

You can see some of the twists and reveals coming, but like hearing a noise and knowing that going to investigate is a bad idea in a film, it just adds to the suspense and makes you want to shout at the screen, I mean, page. It's creepy, claustrophobic, and utterly fascinating.

I just couldn't get behind this one. I really wanted to enjoy it but it was just soooooo slow.
What I will say is that I think the author nailed agoraphobia as well as some of the other mental health issues that were addressed in this book but for me that was where the positives stopped. Overall, I was bored, uninterested and not invested in the characters and I can't help but think that this book has been seriously over hyped. That being said, if you're someone that's relatively new to the this genre you would probably really enjoy this- I've just been jaded by reading too many lacklustre thrillers but probably would have thoroughly enjoyed The Woman in the Window 2-3 years ago.

Summary- well written and carefully crafted but just too slow with a lack of true originality to keep me engaged.

The woman in the window follows Anna Fox, child psychologist suffering from agoraphobia and has not left her house in almost a year. I reallllly wanted to like this as I have a background in psychology myself and reading about a character is a similar background was very interesting, however I really struggled to care or to maintain interest and it was not the fault of the audiobook. I did enjoy the moments where she was talking about the illness, medications and diagnosis criteria.

The main problem with this novel is that it's not very thiller-y for a quarter of the book, instead drags on and on about how much Anna Fox is drinking, watching her neighbours and chats with other people online. I was supposed to feel an emotional connection to the main character, to feel her pain and root for her and whilst I did root for her, I found myself simply bored out of my mind. By the time the ungodly scream happens, I've been waiting for so long that I lost interest, put it down and now I have no willingness to pick it up. Maybe one day it will happen, maybe not.

The writing was good, it was articulate and expressive, but the plot suffered greatly at the expense of exposition and setting the scene. Nothing really happened that couldn't have been written in a much shorter way and cut to the thrilling part of the novel which is what I was here for. Also, can we just stop with the unreliable narrator style of domestic thrillers!!

Gave it 2.5 stars even if I stopped reading it because I didn't hate it and actually some people would find it interesting.

I'd heard a lot about this book, which is why I picked it up, but it didn't live up to the hype. In terms of portraying mental health, it's incredibly inaccurate and at time offensively so, it pigeon holes agoraphobia into this crazed stigmatised box. The plot itself left much to be desired also, it dragged on, there were certainly aspects to the plot that were unneccessary. An easy enough read that I sailed through, but that was it's only saving grace.

It’s been ten months since Anna Fox last left her home. Ten months during which she has haunted the rooms of her old New York house, lost in her memories, too terrified to step outside.

Anna’s lifeline to the real world is her window, where she sits, watching her neighbours. When the Russells move in, Anna is instantly drawn to them. A picture-perfect family, they are an echo of the life that was once hers.

WOW this book was just brilliant. I'd heard mixed reviews on this but I'm not one to take any notice!! The book was atmospheric and dark, Anna was completely likeable, I believed I could honestly feel her pain and frustration at what was happening and how she was feeling. Some parts of the book were predictable but that didn't deter me from devouring. The twist at the end - OMG I didn't see it coming at all.
