There are many good things about this book. The author is a talented and inventive baker. He has created a beautiful and meticulous book, full of great recipes and charming memories.

Even so the book has faults. Most importantly are the Turkish ingredients that will be hard or impossible to find in the US. There were several yummy-sounding recipes that I can't make because of this.

Less important, but still annoying is that he often refers to his first cookbook, on Turkish cuisine and to things on his blog. While I realize both are important to him, they might be significantly less so to his readers. This cookbook can stand on its own, the references make it less than it should be.

While the majority of recipes are easy enough for the home cook, several are complex and detailed and may be beyond the reach of most home cooks.

Although not as complicated as books I've seen by restaurant pastry chefs, this beautiful book is one, I suspect, that is more for viewing than for cooking.

I was given a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, this book was incredible. The photography was clean and interesting and the recipes were well laid out. Even though some of the recipes appear challenging, the concise and well-explained instructions will definitely help bakers succeed. Most recipes have easy to find ingredients, and if they're not , there's an explanation as to why they should be sought out!

This is a beautiful and interesting cookbook. Definitely a winner

This amazing new baking cookbook from blogger Cenk Sonmezsoy is fun, creative and packed full of great new recipes that I can not wait to add to my repertoire. My favorite part about this book flavor combinations he has come up with, I am always looking for a unique take and he does not disappoint. Even traditional favorites are elevated. Not all the recipes are simple but the step by step instructions are easy to follow and he has included some tips and tricks to help armature bakers along the way. The photos and personal stories are as endearing as the tasty treats waiting to be sampled.

A wonderful book full of creative and unique recipes, accompanied by pictures of the final product. While most of them aren't very simple these recipes are perfect for home bakers who love trying out new flavors and challenges. I will definitely be buying my own copy as soon as possible.

This is a sumptuous book. The recipes are all well within the capabilities of a home cook, with the exception of some of the piping work, which takes quite a bit of practice and skill. I've made variations of some of the recipes before and I'm eager to the author's variations. Others will be in my queue, with the Triple Raspberry & Lemon Birthday Cake.. The photographs that accompany each recipe both show the finished baked dessert, often inside and out and often with closeups of swirls and other decorations as well as demonstrations of particular techniques.. FIve years in the making, The Artful Baker was worth the wait (and the weight it will add to the lucky indulgers of its products). This book will appeal especially to the growing devoted fan base of the Great British Bake Off.

I am a home baker who is always in the market for new recipes to try and add to my collection, so when I saw that there was a baking cookbook subtitled "Extraordinary Desserts From an Obsessive Home Baker", I thought it would be right up my alley. Cookies are my baked good of choice, but I also enjoy pies, cakes and candies/bars. This cookbook does not fit into my wheelhouse and I was unable to find a connection to it. Having said that, it may have something to offer others. The author is Turkish and there are many Turkish recipes and influences for those who may be interested. Pistachios and fresh vanilla bean weigh heavily in these recipes. There are entire sections devoted to macarons, tarts and ice creams for those with an affinity for those desserts. The recipes themselves are very detailed (too much so for my taste, but I'd rather have everything I need than not). The author has a blog on which he shares recipes and that might be a good place to get a preview of his style and recipes.
