I’m rating this as chick lit. Not in a derogatory sense, but just to rate it fairly against its competitors in the genre only.
This novel plays with the theme of artists and Cornwall, which isn’t unique but does do the job very well.
I haven’t read Fern Britton before and I will admit to feeling a little prejudiced against writers who were originally known in another field of work. I was really pleasantly surprised with this offering which while being “fluffy” also drew me in and made me stay up past midnight for the conclusion.
You feel part of this family and invested in their outcomes. Enough said!

Sennen was a mum of two by the time she was 17. It was all too much for her and she runs away from home in the middle of the night leaving her parents to bring up Ella and Henry and they don't hear from her again for over 20 years. When she returns after hearing that both her parents had died Ella seems to take to her straight away but Henry who was a little older than Ella when Sennen left was not so easily won over. I found it a little hard to believe that Ella would be so quick to forgive her mum although Henry was a much tougher nut to crack. Sennen eventually found love and married and had two children but she did not mention she already had to until the letter arrived causing a huge rift with her husband. I didn't find any of the characters particularly likeable but it was a good read nevertheless.

I love to curl up with a book from Fern Britton as I can guarantee it will be a feel good read that I will love and this book was no exception. I found myself wanting to keep reading as the story unravelled, brilliant descriptions and set in one of my favourite places - what is there not to like.

I love it when you have an author you know will provide an uplifting read that will leave you with a smile, a great follow on from the Postcard and I am pleased I have had the opportunity to read.

Having enjoyed Fern Britton as a TV presenter for so long, I was really hoping to enjoy this novel. Although this book is a sequel of sorts, I had not read any of her previous books, yet did not feel that I was missing out as this works very well as a stand-alone novel. Set in Cornwall, it tells the story of Ella who is returning after the death of her grandmother. The story spans generations and is told in two time-frames. A lovely book with really warm and believable characters, and I shall certainly look for more of Fern Britton's books in the future.

As always Fern Britton captures the essence of Cornwall. I also loved Sennon's journey in this book which embraces more exotic climes too. I did find it quite hard to warm to her though as trying to find the motivation for what she did, other than being young, selfish and wanting to 'find' herself', was quite hard. Her remorse at the end and her desire to mesh two different lives went some way towards understanding her, if not actually forgiving her. Her daughter Ella is more forgiving than her son but perhaps the healing powers of Cornwall can work their magic on him too? Exploring the themes of love, loss and forgiveness I enjoyed seeing the different points of view as well as the lovely descriptions of Cornwall.

Yet another good book from Fern. Easy to get into. You feel for Ella and Henry. It would be nice to know what happened to their dad. Am happy that Sennen came back and managed to have a good relationship with her past friend and family. A good beach read would recommend this book.

A tale of family and friendships and a gentle read in 'Coming Home '. Storyline is interesting enough to keep reading although characters are somewhat too unrealistic to properly connect with - although this is fiction, for this genre a heftier dose of realism and less of perfection would be more balanced. Nonetheless a pleasant read.

I enjoyed this book in the beginning. The story being told from different viewpoints and at different times made for a more thought-provoking read. You sympathise with one narrator, then begin to see the story from other perspectives, and have to re-think your views. However, in the end it dissolved into a rather derivative 'happily ever after' sequence. Maybe I'm a cynic, but I would have preferred a more substantial and realistic ending.

My favourite Fern Britton book yet! Loved it from start to finish. The past and present storylines blended perfectly and I did not want the book to end. Brilliant.

Fern Britton's novels are like a comfortable pair of slippers. I love reading Fern's stories, they are full of strong women with a great story to share and they are about families.

Coming Home tells the story of three generations of a family and concentrates on the females within. There are a number of secrets which each lady holds, but which of course are revealed and their consequences shape the dynamics of the family. The book is a real rollercoaster of emotion as the reader will not be able to stop themselves becoming involved in Adela, Sennen and Ella's lives. Add into the mix the male members of the family and it is interesting to see how they are affected and how their lives pan out. I especially liked that Sennen spent a large proportion of her life in India and her involvement with a Sikh man and this added another dynamic into the mix.

I really enjoyed how the story swapped and changed between the three characters lives and as the story develops it becomes obvious that the previous generation's actions have long term consequences on later generations. Fern has the ability to write stories that have numerous layers and I really enjoy being able to peel them off and see how the story develops.

I highly recommend this book to blog readers who enjoy family sagas and books about strong women.

Thank you to Harper Collins for inviting me to take part in this blog tour and for the copy of the book I received in return for an honest review

This is the first novel of Fern Britton I have read. Coming Home, Henry and Ella's story and their mother, Sennan who left her children in the care of her mother when they were very young. Unable to cope with two young children, she ran away when she was only 17. Sadly her mother died and she returned to cornwall to try to rebuild realationships with her children. I enjoyed the flashbacks to her youth and the struggles she faced, and they adventure she took to seek a better life for herself.
This was a nice easy light read, and makes a change to read a book with no violence, would recommend as a good standalone wholesome read.

An easy read that would be perfect to enjoy whilst on the beach or on a sunny day in the garden. I liked how the story flitted between the past and the present through one of the characters memories and everything came together in the present. I will definitely be looking out for more titles from the author in the future.

Perfect quick and easy holiday read. All the emotions squished into one book. I loved that some of the characters are from previous books by Fern Britton so it's almost a sequel without needing to have read previous books.
