This is a powerful and emotional read, dealing with a totally heartbreaking situation.

The story delves deep into the marriage of Anna and Rob and how they each face a situation parents should never have to face. The description is woven beautifully, taking the reader on the emotional journey, along with Anna and Rob.

The choices are unbearable and the reader sees the impact life has on each of the main characters. The author deals with the issues with huge sensitivity, whilst ensuring the reader ‘feels’ alongside the parents.

An eye-opening, informative and emotional read.

This book broke my heart a thousand times. Beautifully written. It was very hard to read but unputdownable at the same time.

Rob and Anna. Then later Jack their son.

Jack blesses his life every day for his wife Anna by his side and the icing on the cake, his son Jack.
He’s in heaven, fully contented with his life.

Then their lives fall apart.

This is an emotional read that you will need tissues close by you.

Rob is now devastated of course and is just covered in his own fog of grief which no one can penetrate and quite frankly, he doesn’t want to talk about it.

The effects of grief.
The heart thats broken.

Can his heart mend?
Can the relationship get through this?

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

Firstly I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for my free ARC.

Melancholy. As a reader, I felt this overwhelming sense of loss, regret and sadness. Rob narrates the story and begins by showing the reader all of his best memories of his son Jack with only a hint of Jack's mother Anna and that Jack is no longer in his life. The way it is written in easy prose makes it effortless for the reader to cut to the reason why Rob feels so sad at speed.

The description of how London looks to a small child is particularly endearing and the reader is reminded of different perspectives and the wonder of a small child's imagination.

The story moves from memories to the event. From here the book moves into a new section. In this way the reader can map out the sections of the story. Despair. Denial. Acceptance. This is an emotional story, quite hard to digest in places- so full of grief and hopelessness. In parts it is also hopeful. Reader beware.

Themes: child illness, parenting styles, stages of grief

What an absolutely wonderful book this was! I so enjoyed this emotional read which manages to be both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time

The thing that most strikes you about this book is how real it feels. We’ve all heard stories about children struggling with cancer and the author manages to convey the struggle perfectly with his compassion leaping from the page. The author sadly had his own recent cancer battle and therefore understands exactly the emotions involved.

I loved the two main characters Rob and Anna who I thought were perfectly matched for each other, despite being very different. The story of how they met and fell in love is beautifully written and I so enjoyed watching it unfold. I was very involved in the story as I was so attached to the characters and therefore felt every twist acutely.

My favourite part of the book however was the wonderful descriptions of Rob’s close relationship with his father. It’s sadly unusual to read about such a close father son relationship and I thought this one was brilliantly portrayed leading to some of the most heart warming parts in the book. Having children of my own I could well imagine the scenes described and I had a tear in my eye whilst reading them.

This story is surprisingly gripping as the reader soon warms to the characters and wants to keep reading as they want to find out what happens to them. There are a few twists and turns but it’s the love for the characters that kept me reading.

This is unbelievably the author’s debut novel and I’m very excited to read more from him in the future. My heart normally sinks when I see author’s compared to Jodi Picoult but I feel this one is definitely justified as it’s similar in style and I felt it was incredibly good!

Huge thanks to Tracy Fenton for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Trapeze books for my copy of this book which is going on my keep forever shelf! If you like gripping, emotional books then you’ll love this book!

I ow just wow...this book absolutely broke my heart and now I feel I won’t be able to read another book again. The sign of amazing writing for me is feeling bereft when a book ends and this is how I feel after ending We Own the Sky. I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much at a book as I have this one, I wish I could read it all again from the start. Absolutely amazing writing but a heartbreaking story.

I'm sure a lot of readers will adore this book, but I just couldn't get into it. So many books to read, so little time! Sorry.

Where do I start.... First of all, We Own the Sky deserves 5 stars. Not only did the author tackle such a sad and delicate subject with an amazing graze and honesty, also the portray of the parents was fantastic. No stereotype parent facing a child's cancer diagnosis but the story of immense love between them, their journey together to become parents, though early parenthood and dealing with all that had been thrown in their path. I do not want to spoil, anything so I stop here. Definitely recommend it!!!

This is a really emotional and sad story about a young boy who gets ill.....as a mother it was a hard book to read and it was sad but there was a story and plot behind it and fantastic characters. Get a tissue but a good book!

You will need tissues...this is an amazingly well written story about Rob, Anna and their son, Jack. It drew me in from the beginning and took me on such an emotional journey, from Rob and Anna’s first meeting and then following their story of love, happiness, life and loss, which is told through the eyes of Rob. I can’t praise this author’s style of writing enough as I was completely immersed in the story and Rob’s emotions. We own the sky is a must read and I’m very grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity to read it. It’s a story I won’t forget and has gone straight into my five star folder.

An absolutely stunning read. Beautifully written and with such passion and attention to detail. I was hooked from the very beginning. Such a moving story, lots of tissues for all the tears!

A sad and sensitive subject handled beautifully as we follow all the heartbreak, anguish and hopes of a father as he copes with his young son's terminal illness. I expected it to be depressing but it was sctually quite uplifting, especially with the role of the father and son's shared love of photography running through the story.

We Own the Sky touched me in a way no other book has in a very long time. It is an absolute gem that manages to be tender, joyful and desperately sad all at the same time. The author’s own brush with cancer informed his writing, so that the story is searingly honest, even though it is just that: a story. The writing is utterly beautiful and the book drew me in, enfolded me and captured my emotions. It’s about illness, grief and desperation, but it’s also about love and hope. I didn’t want it to ever end, despite reading through tears. It’s hard to believe this was a debut novel and I hope we see loads more from the hugely talented Luke Allnutt.

This book is sad, it's about a terribly sad topic and as such needs to approached with real caution.
It made me weep proper tears, but mostly at the kindness of people in this story.
It shows the perils of the internet, but also its strengths.
Get through the sobs to the end, because my smiles are back, watery but back.

Wonderful book had me gripped from the start.I had to check it was fiction because it was so life like.
I loved the characters and because you get hooked and engrossed it makes the book so much sadder. I would put this up with Rabbit Hayes and would certainly recommend to library customers and friends.
Have a hanky ready for the tale of this family will have you in tears.

This is a beautifully written and exceptionally thoughtful book. Mr Allnut has put his heart and soul into creating a tale that will tear your heart in two. However, the real brilliance is that at no time does the story become overly sentimental, too mawkish or unrealistically syrupy. Thank goodness this is a work of fiction, although sometimes it's hard to believe that Mr Allnut didn't suffer this experience for real. It's a testament to his considered writing that he manages to convey genuine emotion throughout the entire book. For once the strap line fits; this really is a genuinely unforgettable story that will stay with you for a long time to come. I recommend this book to everyone. You can thank me later
