I first read a Giovanna Fletcher book because her husband Tom, from the band McFly, is someone I quite admire. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I quite like her books. They are nothing earth shattering but they are an enjoyable read and perfect for a day at the beach. I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

Lizzy and Ian have been together for 10 years and Lizzy has tried to make herself the person Ian wants. He then tells her he doesn't want to be with her. Lizzy then discovers how much she's changed to be the person Ian wants. She must now try to get back to the person she was.

This was just what needed! I needed something sweet and funny, I needed to really root for a character and giggle at some of the stuff she does. I needed a little bit of romance. And I got all of that and much much more. Romped through it in one sitting, and it was like a giant squiggly chocolate filled hug. Loved it!!

This is a light and entertaining quick read by Giovanna Fletcher. Lizzie and Ian have been a couple for 10 years since university, and through the years Lizzie has obsessed about when Ian will propose. She has almost given up that he ever will, only to find on a holiday to Dubai, that he finally bring out the ring. However, to her horror, there is heartbreak when he comes out with the fact that he is just not able to propose and that he no longer wants to be with her. A shell shocked Lizzie returns from her nightmare holiday and moves in with her parents. She finds herself taking stock of her life as she wonders who she is without Ian. She embarks on a quest to trawl through her past history, noting all the things she could not do as a couple, how much Ian influenced her sense of who she was, and come to evolve a new sense of identity. There is a great cast of characters including her mother and husband, her father, her sister, Michelle with her competitive rivalries, and her friend, Connie. I like the fact that this does not turn into a search for a new man, but is instead a fun and humorous look at how there is life after a long term relationship breakdown amidst a background of music from the 1980s and 1990s. An enjoyable read. Many thanks to Penguin Michael Joseph for an ARC.

I liked the premise of this book as all Lizzy’s hopes came crashing down. Some good humorous touches and believable characters. The pace slowed in the middle but a possible sequel has been set up nicely.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of the book.

I loved this brilliant story. It was different to normal as in when the girl gets dumped, she finds love straight away. Lizzy and Ian have been together for 10 years, they are on holiday in Dubai when Ian produces an engagement ring, only to take it back. Lizzy is devastated and moves back home to her mother. She plans to get to know herself again, as a single woman, and we join her on her fantastic journey! Read on!

If you follow me on social media you will have seen my thoughts on this book already – I loved it! Chick-Lit is not my go to genre, but I do enjoy the occasional one as a light, fluffy, easy read. This however, was not run of the mill, everything land’s in the main characters lap and she lives happily ever after. This book showed a real journey for the main character. After leaving a long term partner, who you believed you would spend your life with, you have a lot of work to do. You have to re-find yourself, possibly move house, find things to fill your time again, get used to being alone. This book shows that journey for Lizzy and it was like a breath of fresh air for this style of book. As a woman who has gone through this I was relieved to see something that represented the true struggles after a break up and thoroughly enjoyed reading about Lizzy’s journey. I will definitely be checking out some of Giovanna Fletcher’s other books after reading this one.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin UK for giving me the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Some Kind of Wonderful is about Lizzy. All Lizzy has ever wanted is for her boyfriend of 10 years, Ian, to propose. Every holiday or special occasion, Lizzy thinks is the time Ian will propose. Now they're on holiday in Dubai. Ian has everything planned for his proposal. He even has the ring out. But then he changes his mind and breaks up with Lizzy instead. The rest of the novel is Lizzy trying to find who she is without Ian and what she actually wants out of her life.

I really, really wanted to love this. But I just didn't. I spent 70% of this just wanting to punch Lizzy in the face. I just found her so annoying. Maybe that's because personally I don't want to get married and so therefore can't see why she's so obsessed about it and how her life is a complete failure because Ian has proposed yet. The ending is better.. but completely predictable in the way chick lit is.

Lizzy is blindsided when she is dumped on holiday after believing she would be becoming engaged. Following the break up, Lizzy attempts to find who she really is in an enjoyable easy read. The book uses many cliches and is quite predictable but nonetheless is still an entertaining novel.

Another brilliant book by Mrs Fletcher. I love her easy writing style and there's always a charm and a warmth with her books. The story just flows beautifully and it's so easy to get lost within the pages of her story. This is a real empowerment story and I loved the idea behind it. Izzy and Ian have been a couple for a long time and people just assume that marriage is the next logical step. This changes after a holiday which sees Izzy being left broken hearted and single but this isn't the end of the story- it's the start! Brilliant read full of humor and strength. I really enjoyed escaping with this little gem.

Perhaps I'm the wrong demographic for this book but I felt sad reading this that there is still a market for the 'you don't need a man to be complete' type of book, particularly when you know the heroine will probably find another man by the end anyway. There are plus points in this book though - many of the observations about relationships, new motherhood and family life were honest, refreshing and funny. The characters were interesting to get to know and Connie probably deserves her own book. This was the first I'd read by this author and it hasn't put me off reading another but it was all a bit too safe and predictable for me.

As as usual, Giovanna has written a gorgeous story! The characters come to life and the dialogue is so easy to follow! Perfection!

I had been wanting to read a book by Giovanna Fletcher for far too long before I picked this one up, I even owned all of her published works, however, I had never gotten around to reading them. As soon as I read the synopsis for Some Kind Of Wonderful, I knew this was going to be the one I picked up first as it sounded exactly like something I would enjoy. I love Giovanna as a person (her Youtube channel is one of my favourites) so, of course, I really wanted to love this book. To my relief, I really did love this book.

The story follows Lizzy who, after a ten year relationship with her university boyfriend, finds herself back in her family home with a broken heart and no idea who she is outwith the relationship. While this isn't the most unique story, it felt like I was reading this situation for the first time. There was something new and fresh about the way the story was told that stopped this from becoming just another version of the many similar books out there.

This was not a particularly plot-driven book, there wasn't a lot of action and adventure, but it kept my attention and made me want to keep reading. For me, it was a very chilled, relaxing read. The plot kept moving but at a steady pace with the characters driving the story, and some interesting subplots thrown in along the way to keep things interesting.

Lizzy goes on such a journey throughout this book that it's hard not to connect to her character. She is an average woman struggling with the no longer being 'Ian's girlfriend' and having to discover how to be Lizzy, which is a struggle many, myself included, can relate to. Her character growth was incredible - from being so insecure while in her relationship and hiding behind her boyfriend to learning to be comfortable in her own skin and confident as herself - and it was something I found so inspiring. I wish I had read this book when I was in Lizzy's situation as I think it would have been exactly what I needed to read.

The characters were the real highlight of this book. Not only was Lizzy a great main character, every other character in this book was great. There were no unlikeable characters, even the ex-boyfriend and the, sometimes rather annoying, younger sister had their redeeming qualities. We had a great cast of characters, a lovely family dynamic and a hilarious friendship, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Overall, this book just made me want to read everything else Giovanna has ever written. I was so relieved to discover I loved her writing as much as I love her as a person but I shouldn't be surprised. This book was just as beautiful and inspiring as the author herself and I would urge anyone who has struggled, or is struggling, through a difficult breakup to pick up this book. I related so much to the story and it was one of those books that really made me think and has stayed with me long after I finished the last page.

I really enjoyed this book, all about how to find yourself after life doesn't quite work out relationship wise. When we are in a long-term relationship sometimes we forget our own identity and become a couple. I wonder how most of us would live our lives if we became suddenly single again.

I loved this book, I couldn't wait to curl up on the settee with a cuppa and my kindle. Although probably not everyone's type of story it certainly is mine. A charming tale of self-discovery and learning to find your place in the world this is a light-hearted novel that had me laughing in places and feeling very festive in others as I read it at the end of November. I would love to read a sequel to how Lizzy is getting on as I feel that this is just the beginning of her story.

Another wonderful story from Gi. Wonderful writing and a story that will keep you reading to the end. Relatable and well fleshed out characters. Would recommend this to all!

Normally love giovannas books but this felt like it was trying to move away from her style and i didn't like it much. Too many swear words for me.

Journey of self discovery for the main character, as she tries to work out what version of herself she really is,

Whether its the person she was at 18 before she met Ian, at 28 after 10 years of being with Ian before being broken up with in a memorble way, or some other version of hersef,

Within the book we learn a lot about her family and best friend, and I loved seeing all the various characters.

I am a huge fan of Giovanna Fletcher and although not my favourite book by her, I still thought it was up to a top standard, which was well written, easy to follow, quick to read and highly enjoyable. I loved this story a lot.

Thank you to Netgalley and Michael Joseph for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Some Kind Of Wonderful is my favourite book by Giovanna yet! There was not one aspect of this book, I did not love.

At the beginning of this book we meet Lizzy who has been with her boyfriend Ian for almost a decade and has not seen a glimpse of an engagement ring from him. Just when she thinks she's going to get engaged, she actually gets dumped!

I loved the way the book wasn't entirely focused on Lizzy finding a new boyfriend but on Lizzy actually finding herself. That being said the ending was very very hopeful.

My favourite character in this book most definitely had to be Michelle, she was just too funny. and her awesome gift giving!

This a wonderfully funny book and I would highly recommend you all put it on your tbr and give it a read! And when your finished (or before) go and beg Giovanna to write a sequel!
