This audiobook was addictive for sure! Even so, the mini-me caught the last couple of hours and wanted to know what was going to happen!

I loved the growth of Kitty in the story. The story was quite dark in places and I wanted to jump in and give Ethan a slap or two. But with all the shocks that happened, I felt there could have been a bit more. There was a huge shock and it was quite literally life-changing but I felt that it wasn’t given enough time to work through. It was an odd twist too and then I felt it was brushed over a bit too quickly. I would have wanted to spend a bit more time focused on it and to see Kitty work it through a bit more, as I say it was a bombshell!

Kitty was abused by two too many people and when we meet her, she is running from her wedding day, and we have no idea why. And the manipulation that went with it was uncomfortable to watch. I did gasp a few times and Kitty had chains to break. But was she replacing one cage for another when she met Jack?

Jack is broken and running away from his own loss. He has his demons to face, so when Kitty and he meet, two souls explode as they try to navigate through life.

It was such a sweet and touching story. I loved watching their love grow. It was like chicken soup for your soul. I do have to admit though, that I had to pause it at one point as Kitty discusses losing her dad, and how she’s worried she will forget things about him. I had to admit that got me. I feel the same way. Some years on, and I can just about hear my dad's voice in my head but it's fading. And although I will never forget him, her fear, her worry of forgetting her dad, it’s mine. Every day and that got me. It made me think.

I did adore this story. I am glad I met Kitty and Jack and I am glad I found a book to watch two people grow.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

I did enjoy this book even though parts were predictable and at the beginning far fetched. Yet i would read more books by this Author.

This is the first I have read by Mary Jayne Baker, so I didn’t know what to expect from her writing or this book. I all knew when I first opened this book was that I really liked the sound of the story and that was enough for me to start to read it. It’s been a while since I read a contemporary/chick-lit and this has just made me fall in love with this genre all over again. This is funny and infused with real warmth, realism and wit.

The opening grabs your attention right from the first sentence, it makes you wonder why Kitty is running down a dirt track in her wedding dress? What has made her do such a thing and more importantly is it really wise of her to be hitch hiking when she is in such a distraught state? But she does – and good thing too as she meets cheeky go lucky, free spirit Jack Duffy, who is traveling around in a campervan with a pregnant dog. Jack helps her in more ways than she ever realises.

This is such a sweet story of moving on, these two characters have each experienced some pretty awful things in their lives finding happiness and most of all love out of the ashes of life’s fire. This is written in first person, from Kitty’s point of view and even if your, not one to read this style I would say give it a go. Personally, I don’t care either way! If the story is strong well-articulated and extremely well written, Baker grabs your attention with her skilful words and her obvious passion for the story she has written. What I do like about first person narrative is that you are seeing the story unfold through that particular character’s eyes and this one really appealed to me Kit is a very ordinary woman. She’s starts off as a bit down on her luck, but’s she’s smart and savvy and once she figures out what direction she is going to go in, she goes for it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Runaway Bride, if you like the works of Lindsey Kelk, Jane Costello and Sophie Kinsella then you will love this book and this author, who I will definitely be reading again.

Very enjoyable read!

My first by this author and I will continue reading future books by her
THIS book grips you very early on and the romance and funny side of it keeps you turning those pages. I really enjoyed the setting, the characters and the plot. A must read for us all.
She runs off from her wedding and that's the opening of this bus sounds alot like the Julia Roberts movie and much more... she's hitchhiking her way out of the situation and finds Jack will help her....
In time you get the reasoning behind her running away. It's such a funny read.

The only thing you can expect from Mary Jayne Baker's books is the unexpected. I always know Mary's books are going to be amazing but I never know what else to expect until I start reading.

In Runaway Bride we get exactly that plus a lonely camper van owner. I think this is Mary's quirkiest and most unique book to date. I loved it. I laughed, I cried and I swooned.

Jack Duffy is a swoony but damaged hero. His road to recovery was bumpy which made it all the more believable. Kitty had some healing of her own to do to after the various shocks to her system. The shocks Kitty received shocked me as a reader too. I actually audibly gasped a few times. Like I say you just never know what path Mary will take you down.

There were a few tense moments for me where I had just started to get comfortable with the direction Jack and Kitty were travelling in and then all of a sudden there's another unexpected turn. It does me good though to be kept guessing!

This is another smashing book from Mary Jayne Baker and I am already anticipating her next one!

I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the characters straight away... well most of them, Jack is so lovable talk about swoon you can't help but love him. I literally laughed out loud at parts of the book and wanted to scream at others, I felt so sorry for Kitty having a husband and a mother like that. This book wasn't what I expected at all there were a few twists I couldn't believe were happening but we're brilliant, I don't want to spoil it for anyone. This book was absolutely fantastic I really didn't want it to end. A brilliant book I will be recommending to everyone.

When you hear that Kitty ran away from her own wedding reception dressed in her wedding dress and wellies and is hitchhiking to anywhere and then realise she has been picked up by a man in an orange camper van with a pregnant dog on board you know you are in for a fun, funny read. And this book is all that. And more. I loved the Spring Summer feel, the uniquely British humour and the dynamic between jack and Kitty!

First of all I would like today thank you to netgalley for letting me review this book.

What caught my eye was the front cover of this book its bold and colourful. This is the first book I have read by Mary Jayne Baker it certainly won't be my last from the first sentenced I was pulled in. I loved the storyline I was laughing at points and didn't see what was going to happen the book kept me reading didn't want it to end its a good romantic feel good book..

Romance isn't usually my bag. Sometimes I say that as an apology at the start of a review, because I feel that my personal genre taste is unfair on the writer. 'It's not the book, you know, it's me.' What reading Runaway Bride made me realise is that actually I don't like badly written romance. That sort of flat, cliched paper cutout stuff. This, I loved. The characters danced from the page, the VW was spot on (and I say that as someone who once lived for a year and a half in a - slightly larger - camper van with three kids), and the plot was tight and funny. Perfect escapism, really enjoyed it! I just hope that Jack and Kitty don't become too settled. There's a place in everyone's life for running away in a camper van every now and then...

From the first few pages I loved this book with its fabulous sense of humour. I mean how often do you start a book with a bride running away from her own wedding,. wearing wellies with her wedding dress, and not caring about anything else other than how to get far far away.

Hitchhiking may not be the most logical thing but she ends up in the company of Jack Duffy and his little orange campervan, and his pregnant dog too. Jack appear to have a rescuer complex as he is determined to keep Kitty safe and really goes above and beyond to help her out.

I loved Jack and his whole nomadic way of life, he has a really cool job, and his dog is adorable too. Kitty is also a fabulous character and I loved seeing how the friendship between the two grows.

Finding out what caused Kitty to run from her wedding had me gasping in shock as did other storylines that were related to that. It was really compulsive, enjoyable reading.

This may only be the second book I've read by this author but she is quickly becoming a firm favourite and one I will attempt to read a lot sooner than I have been for her next releases.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

If you are looking for a romantic read that will make you both laugh and cry then 'Runaway Bride', is for you. Kitty leaves her wedding after witnessing the ultimate betrayal, running her only option.  Jack rescues anything that needs it. Usually, it's of the four-legged variety, but he makes an exception for Kitty.
Serendipitous circumstances draw Jack and Kitty together, and even though they have only known each other for a short time, proximity and mutual need bring them closer in every sense.
Self-discovery is the central theme of this gentle story, both Jack and Kitty have lessons to learn before they can experience their live's fully. Jack needs to forgive himself and shed the guilt he feels over his wife's death. Kitty needs to rebuild her self-esteem after years of being put down by mother and her cheating husband. These are painful lessons to learn, and at times you wonder whether they are they both too damaged to learn to love again?
A lovely tale which showcases a kaleidoscope of emotions, with lots of poignancy and humour, a real feel-good read.
I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I tend to read a lot of crime, mystery and darker stories, but every now and again I love to read a good feel good, lighter and much more heart warming story.  The Runaway Bride is one of those stories.  It was the perfect book for relaxing with as I followed the story of Kittie, married only 3 hours, running away from her own wedding reception.  Bedraggled, broke, distraught and sat on the side of the road is where Jack finds her.  A kind-hearted soul who cannot leave her there.  As the story begins to unfold the story of Kittie's wedding and life is revealed as well as the tragedy that befell Jack.

I really enjoyed this story, it is an enveloping read that leaves you feeling all warm and aaahhhhh! It has some really good back stories that explore the lives of our two main characters, this is gradually teased out as the characters find a way to tell each other their tale.  They have both suffered in one form or another and it is their sharing of their lives that help them move forward.  There are some surprising and unexpected turns that I didn't expect or even see coming, they have darker underlying issues that made this intriguing.

This is my first time reading one Mary's books and I can honestly say it will not be my last.  A well paced, well written book with surprises and twists that kept me engaged from start to finish.

This is the perfect book to read for a lazy afternoon and one that I would happily recommend to readers who are after a good chick lit fiction book that will engross them.

I will never understand what makes authors write in first person. I hate it. Usually, the second I read the first paragraph of a book and it's written in first person, the book gets cast aside; never to be read again. So you can imagine the dilemma I faced when I was approved an ARC of this book from Netgalley to discover it's written in first person narratives. It was easy to read and didn't seem to contain too much internal battling with oneself from the protagonist which made me decide to stick it out for the same of a review.
And it was surprisingly good. The relationship between Kitty and Jack was sweet, although at times it felt a bit rushed but that did seem to slow down a bit later on and move at a more believable pace. The mother and husband were the necessary evils to give Kitty an interesting bit of back story.
Although it seemed a light hearted read at the time, it does have some deep issues for the characters to deal with and it's done in a believable time frame, unlike some books where the characters are suddenly completely over their deep seated issues.
I would have enjoyed an epilogue to see how Jack got on with his counseling and learning to live with his grief, and how things went with the baby and living indoors, but in all; this was a good read and was very engaging. 3 stars.

Really enjoyable read. Both main characters are likeable and you care what happens to them.

Review shall be on my blog 18/02: thecosiestcorner.blogspot.com

I feel like I start everyone of my reviews by: 'I've never read a book by this author before...' and this is the same for this one (hides behinds hands). I'm shocked I'd never read a novel by this author before! It was refreshingly fun and easy to read and overall a really enjoyable book to sink into.

The cover is what drew me in, the colours are bright and eye-catching and I love reading any sort of stories about weddings (even if technically they don't happen), so I was really excited when I got accepted for this one. The beginning of the story is really gripping, it starts with Kitty running away, although we have no idea why or where she is running away too. This for me made me not want to put the book down! I was addicted to finding out what happened next!

When we first meet Jack I was a bit dubious. How could one man care so much for someone he has only just met? However, as the story goes on and we get to learn more about his background and what has happened to him, I started to feel incredibly touched by his kindness and felt so sorry for him! Jack and Kitty have both been through so much hurt that it was fate that pushed them together and I really enjoyed reading about their 'relationship' and how it evolved. You really start to see them both come out of their shell.

I loved how the story ended, and even though I had a bit of an inkling of how it would end, I enjoyed it all the same. It's heartwarming and just a really lovely romance story with a bit of humour thrown in! Overall, I really enjoyed reading this novel by Mary Jayne Baker and look forward to reading more of her books. Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for a chance to read this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.
