5 stars on goodreads
I didn’t think I’d enjoy this as it is number 3 in a series but I was wrong. It’s a stand-alone read and it’s fripping, sad and compelling equally.
I’ll definitely read the other 2 books and I’ll be looking out for the future books.
This is a story of missing children, lies, obsession and some sad stories. Ruby particularly upset me. Very realistic and a good read.

When I selected this book to read I didn’t realise it was the third in a series. I can safely say, it works perfectly well as a stand-alone read and one does not have to had read the first two books to thoroughly enjoy this one.
I loved the main character, a psychologist, Jessie Flynn, from the moment I was introduced to her, she is damaged and complex and clearly has a lot of ‘issues’. She reluctantly agrees to help the police with the murder of two girls which appear to be linked, as it seems one of Jessie’s clients may be involved.
The book is full of mystery and turns and had me reading very quickly as I wanted to know what would happen next and whether Jessie would be able to work out what was happening.
A great read.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Two Little Girls by Kate Medina
This thriller involving the disappearance of two little girls, found on the same beach, the second on the anniversary of the first, was a well written story, being investigated by Jessie Flynn. As usual the main character Jessie, a Clinical Psychologist, has problems of her own, and is a complex but very well written character.
I found the writing extremely good and the story quite a compelling one. The twist was also persuasive, and all the characters involved were believable. The story is quite a sad one, dealing with the supporting characters pasts, and how this has shaped their present lives. The children featured were fleshed out very well and you did feel that you knew them. All in all a pretty good read, and I would recommend it.

I enjoyed the previous 2 Jessie Flynn novels, and was happy to see her and "Marilyn" back.
Once again, some interesting characters, not all likable, of course.
Jessie is still suffering the effects of her unhappy past, along with an injury sustained in a previous investigation. She's flawed, but fascinating.
If you enjoy a thriller, or crime fiction, a great read.

This book is a great read and the story twists and turns following the tragedy. How it all fits together doesn't become clear until later on but makes for sad ending.

This is the third book in the series featuring Dr Jessie Flynn and I would absolutely recommend reading the 2 earlier titles before this one as this is a fantastic series. Our main character Dr Flynn is a psychologist and major crimes police consultant following her medical discharge from the army. Following the discovery of a child's body on a local beach that appears to link to a similar case Jessie is called upon to assist and finds herself working closely on the case with DI Simmons who she often shares a difference of opinion with. Alongside her consultant work Jessie also has her day job to take care of and has recently acquired a young woman by the name of Laura who is grieving the loss of her young child. It is not long before the 2 aspects of Jessie's work collide and we can see that there is something very "off" about Laura.
This book is fast paced but very easy to read with short chapters and lots of twists and turns and I am happy to admit that I was wrong in who I thought the culprit was.
Overall a great read and although you do not have to have read the 2 earlier books in the series I would highly recommend them. Brilliantly written, an excellent psychological whodunit!
Many thanks to Netgalley UK and the author and publishers for the advance review copy.

Thanks to netgalley.co.uk for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't realise when I requested this novel to read, that it was part of a series, I did not feel lost because I hadn't read the first two books which is what I liked about this book, and I feel this makes for good writing.
I do feel like the plotline of a child found murdered is an old mystery cliche however the author handled it uniquely, the entire novel was so gripping from beginning to end, the book kept me guessing the whole time. Even when I assumed I knew who the killer was, I was confronted with another clue that changed my mind! A great read

This was a brilliant police procedural with a phycological angle, It is a third book in the series and I think I would've enjoyed it even more if I read the first two books, which I am definitely going to buy now. Well-written, great characters and plenty of unexpected twists - a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Good read. Two little girls murdered a exactly a year apart but who is guilty? The mother of the first girl who was acquitted of her murder or someone else. Do you every escape your past and how it shaped you?

Jessie is meeting with a woman whose daughter died but then she discovers that nothing is as it seems with this woman. She quickly becomes caught up in the murder of a young girl on the beach two years to the day after another young girl was murdered. How is it all connected and just who killed the two little girls.

This is book 3 in the setries but i dont think you need to read the others to understand the story. It was such a good read and had me hooked really early on. They're are some very clever twists to the story that keep the plot developing. The ending was good if a little sad. The whole plot was well paced and interesting. I just had to keep reading.

Jessie has some issues that she's facing as well as trying to help others but she's a likeable character and easily relatable in many ways. DI Simmons is an interesting character and bounces off Jessie really well. I hope they're are more stories to come.

A Brilliant read with some heart breaking moments.

Two Little Girls by Kate Medina

To be honest I kind of borrowed this book from NetGalley by accident. Some years ago, I read Kate Medina’s brilliant debut, White Crocodile, a thriller set in the legacy mine fields of Cambodia and loved it (she was writing under K.T. Medina then). I’ve read nothing from the author since and was unaware that she had turned to psychological thrillers (which perhaps explains why she now writes as Kate rather than K.T.). Personally, psychological thrillers have always left me a little cold and so despite the cover and title – which perhaps I should have taken as a hint that this was a psychological thriller – I borrowed Two Little Girls expecting something more akin to White Crocodile.

That said, once I started reading I decided to plough on. It wasn’t just that I hate to leave a book unfinished, it’s also that Two Little Girls, while not strictly my cup of tea, is well written and compelling. Apparently, this is the latest in a series of novels to feature psychologist Jessie Flynn and DI Bobby “Marilyn” Simmonds of Surrey and Sussex Major Crimes.

In Two Little Girls, Jessie has just been invalided out of the army where she was a psychologist (I presume in previous books she was still in the army) and is now in private practice. When a young girl, Jodie Triggs, is found strangled on the beach, it transpires that the murder is similar to that of Zoe Reynolds, an unsolved homicide that haunts DI Simmonds. One of Jessie’s patients, Laura, turns out to be Zoe’s mother and the chief suspect in her death (her real name is Carolynn Reynolds). Jessie and DI Simmonds now work together to solve the latest murder and in turn the former.

The novel is structured in alternating chapters told from the perspective of the various characters. Some of these are straightforward, such as those chapters that are from Jessie’s perspective or that of DI Simmonds. Others, especially those from the perspective of Carolynn are less so; we quickly realise that she is an unreliable narrator.

At heart, as with most psychological thrillers, Two Little Girls sits firmly within what’s been called “domestic noir”. The Reynolds – Carolynn, her husband Roger, their murdered daughter Zoe – was a dysfunctional unit, especially so after Zoe died; we, the readers, turn the pages wondering if either husband or wife killed their daughter, whether they have gone on to kill Jodie, and if so, why?

The characters in Two Little Girls are well-crafted and believable, and the author plots her tale deftly. Despite liking my crime novels a little harder-edged and noirish – as indeed White Crocodile was - I read this quite quickly and enjoyed it. So, if psychological thrillers are your thing, and they’re incredibly popular, then you’ll love this.

I loved this book, if a few years ago someone had said that I would be reading crime thrillers I would have laughed so loudly that you could have probably heard me in the next town. But I am so glad that I do love a thriller, as I would have missed this totally edge of the seat page turner ! I really loved the way that it kept you so glued to it’s pages that you just had to read to the end.
I give this brilliant book 8/10

DI Bobby 'Marilyn' Simmons has his work cut out in this gripping psychological thriller. Working alongside psychologist Dr Jessie Flynn, he finds himself with an identical murder to the one that has haunted him for the last two years - the death of a young girl on the beach - beside her is a doll, and her body is surrounded by shells in the shape of a heart.

DI Simmons was convinced that the mother of the first girl was responsible for her daughter's murder, however she was released due to insuffient evidence. Is she responsible for this second murder or is this a copycat killer? Relevant to the case is the fact that this second murder is on the second anniversary of the first.

DI Simmons feels he failed the first little girl by not bringing her killer to justice, so he's determined to put matters right, and enlists the help of Dr Jessie Flynn, hoping her skills as a psychologist will highlight something he may have missed. For a psychologist, Jessie has some pretty serious problems of her own, which aren't helped when one of her patients pulls her headlong into a living nightmare!

This was a truly gripping read, with not too many suspects under the spotlight, however, it's still not as cut and dried as it may appear to be, so be prepared to get the old thinking cap on! Well written, with some really interesting characters, the author has certainly given them some depth, particularly Jessie. The storyline itself had me mesmerised, and undoubtably this was a real winner.

I really loved this book and it truest kept me guessing.

Two girls bodies are found on the beach exactly two years apart. Are the deaths connected ? Who is the killer(s) ? What connects the girls ? Coincidence ?

This is a true whodunnit and I have to admit I changed my mind a couple of times as gradually more information is realeased as the book progresses.

DI Simmons worked the first case and we convinced of the identity of the killer but couldn’t find sufficient evidence for a conviction. Now he investigates the second murder and is convinced it is the same killer but is he right and if so will he find the evidence he needs. He is joined by Dr Jessie Flynn, who has a very different view of the main suspect. Together they start to unravel both cases as well as dealing with a few of their own demons.

This was a brilliant read that had me truely gripped from the start. The twist and turns kept me interested and the slow unraveling of the killer and evidence was spot on. I would definitely recommend this brilliant well written mystery.

When a young girl is found dead on the beach, encircled in shells and clutching an ugly doll it bears a lot of similarities to a previous, unsolved case.. But are the two connected and can Jessie Flynn advise objectively on such a heart-breaking case?

I must admit that I had never read any of the other books in the Jessie Flynn series but this was certainly a good introduction and has inspired me to read more! Jessie seems to be a very interesting and complex character who I’m sure makes a good foundation for the rest of the series. This book holds some great characters in general; from the moody DI Marilyn to the deeply disturbed Laura. I wasn’t sure if any of them except Jessie’s boyfriend Callan had been introduced previously but I enjoyed finding out more about their backstories and personalities.

The story itself is nicely paced with enough red herrings and plot twists to keep you engaged throughout and a final conclusion that only really gets revealed right towards the end – it really does keep you guessing right until the last moment.

I felt that the blurb gave away a little too much about Laura than I would have liked – it made me really suspicious of her from the first time we meet her. If nothing in the blurb had mentioned about the link between her and the girls then I think one of the very early twists would have hit a harder than it actually did.

Overall Two Little Girls is a great installment in the Jessie Flynn series and one that you do not really need to have previous knowledge of the series to enjoy. It’s a well-paced thriller with some great characters that keeps you guessing. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third Kate Medina novel featuring Dr. Jessie Flynn, a psychologist working with the police. I have read all three and this is my favourite so far. It's a very complex case involving the death of two young girls. Again we find out a bit more about Jessie, who I really like. Also about D.I Simmons, known to his colleagues as Marilyn, who I think is a really strong character. Kate Medina is now one of my favourite thriller writers and I hope there's still plenty of Jessie Flynn books to come.

Two girls, murdered two years apart, found within two miles of each other. Is there a connection or is it a coincidence? Psychologist Jessie has been invalided out of the Army with her own demons to vanquish. DI Bobby ‘Marilyn’ Simmons cannot forget that he failed to successfully prosecute the woman he believed to be the murderer of the first child. Roger and Carolynn Reynolds hide from the publicity following the murder of their daughter.
Some nice twists and turns along the way keep the reader guessing and the characters of Jessie and ‘Marilyn’ are well drawn with scope to delve even further into their past in future novels.
Who to trust and who is lying?
