I was initially interested in reading this book, however my tastes have shifted and I do not think I will be able to get to it now. Many thanks to the publisher for sending me a digital copy!
George R.R. Martin is known to the world for A Song of Ice and Fire, but fans know him better for the Wild Cards series, his very own collection of super hero stories that showcase talented writers from across the industry. Set in a world where an alien virus can turn you into a horror from your nightmares or the hero of your dreams, Wildcards is a deep and complex world.
I love the premise of this, superheroes and a mysterious virus against the backdrop of key historical events. I enjoyed basically all of the stories, especially the submissions by Emma Newman and Peter Newman. Only problem is that I would love to read more about a lot of the main characters. Towards the end of the book, it seemed like everything was building to a big event where a lot of the characters would interact, but then that never happened so it felt a bit anticlimactic. I didn't feel there was resolution for some of the plotlines either, the Twisted Fists and Northern Ireland especially. Hopefully they'll release another anthology at some point because I'm definitely not done wanting to know about this world.
This is a collection of short stories of science fiction and fantasy, written by a range of different authors. It’s the first of Wild Card universe novels set in the UK and is just right if you aren’t in the mood or don’t have the time to read a full novel. So, you can dip in and out and read the great stories put together in this book. I really enjoyed reading it and will now read more of these Wild Card tales.
I would like to thank the Author/the Publishers/NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review
