This was a huge autobiography but then Dolly Parton is a huge character, even if she is small in stature.
It was fully of Dollys stories, as well as wisecracks and plenty of laughter along the way.
From her humble beginnings Dolly certainly grew up the hard way and has worked relentlessly for her fame and fortune and I admire her for that.
As Dolly says “it takes a lot of work and money to look this cheap!”

Dolly is a wonderful subject and Randy L.Schmidt is a fantastic writer, but I found this book very repetitive and I would have liked to have delved a bit more "behind the scenes" of Dolly.

Many thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Although not a huge Dolly Part on, nor country music fan, I do like to read autobiographies. This was a book I could pick up and put down, and felt I got to know her

I'm a huge Dolly Parton fan but as I was born in the late 80's, didn't have too much of a detailed insight into her life in the early 70's. It's good to read things firsthand, words she has actually said in interviews. I have almost all of her CDs but I'm also finding out more about song meanings and songs I'm not that familiar with. I think its really interesting for anyone interested in the country industry as well as just Dolly.
