Austin Goddard is a new resident at Cimarron Creek. By posing as a rancher, he fled to Texas in order to protect his daughter from a dangerous criminal. His past as a surgeon has remained a secret. But when Catherine Whitfield captures his heart, he wonders how long he will be able to keep up the charade. He wonders how long he can keep up the charade when Catherine Whitfield captures his heart.

I give A Borrowed Dream five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

This is the second book in Cabot's Cimarron Creek series, set in Victorian-era Texas. The first book, A Stolen Heart, featured Catherine quite a bit as she befriended the new-in-town Lydia Crawford, the heroine of book one. From that book we saw her lose her mother and lose her trust in a man she had loved.

This story picks up with Catherine still teaching at the local school as she was in the first book. She is living alone and trying not to be lonely, so when an abused boy catches her eye it's easy for her to dream of rescuing him and taking him in. But his abuser is his drunken father, who's not about to give up his boy, and her efforts to convince the man that the boy is worth sending to school are sure to meet with some decided resistance.

Austin, the hero, is new in town. He has more secrets than any man ought to have, and a little girl who's sure to steal everyone's heart. He seems to know quite a bit about health and wounds for a normal rancher, but he brushes it off and goes on with hardly an explanation, which of course makes the heroine and the readers instantly wonder what he means by the knowledge and how he came to know it.

Before long Catherine finds herself acting mother to both the abused boy and to Austin's lonely little girl, and these are some of my favorite parts from the story. I really, really enjoy such stories! And then we also have more of the continued mystery from the first book, which I won't specify because of spoilers, other than to say how much I enjoyed getting to know Grace through this story.

We just get comfortable with the town and characters, though, when danger arrives in town, and it's time to keep those pages flying to the very end. Wow...I didn't see some of the stuff at the ending coming!

In all, an enjoyable and suspenseful read!

"In A Borrowed Dream" we meet a young teacher named Catherine Whitfield, who is mourning the lost of her mother under the hands of a doctor, who she feels, treated her incorrectly and allowed her to die. Catherine tells herself at no matter what cost she will not allowed the town doctor to care for any one in her care ever again. She 'doctors' the children in her class and helps them heal. But things began to change for her when a young girl and her handsome father come to town.

Widower Austin Goddard and his daughter Hannah hold a secret. Austin has decide to began a new life as a rancher in Texas and put his pass behind him. If he starts anew, he can get away from the criminals that have put him and his precious daughter, Hannah in danger and create a better life for his heartbroken little girl.

When Austin meets Catherine at the school house, sparks begin to fly between them. However, when a middle aged woman comes to town in need of help from a doctor, things become more complicated. Will Austin reveal the secret he holds? Will Catherine change her opinions of doctors and help this woman she soon cares for very much? Will a little faith from God and trust in each other help the wounds all these individuals carry be healed?

So much more will be revealed, but I don't want to say too, much to spoil this lovely story. Amanda Cabot has done a wonderful job creating realistic characters and events. I could not put this book down. I want to thank the publisher and blogger program, Revel Reads, for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary book for my honest opinion. It was a great read and it will be a series I will return to again and again.

I really, really liked this book! Good steady plot with great characters! This story is #2 in the Cimarron Creek Trilogy but they can be read as stand alone books.

Austin and his daughter move to Cimarron Creek to escape a wanted dangerous criminal from their hometown. As a former surgeon/doctor, Austin must pose as a rancher and establish a new life for him and his daughter. He meets school teacher Catherine and as they work together to help his daughter and fellow neighbors, he has to decide if he can trust her with his secret.

I really loved the characters in this book. Catherine is passionate about helping her school kids and especially Austin’s daughter Hannah. I love reading about the small town and how they interact and help each other, especially in time of need.

Well written christian romance with some drama. I can’t wait to read book #3 in this series!

One great book. A book where sometime secrets protect others even without the them knowing the real reason.

I enjoyed reading A Borrowed Dream, the second book in Amanda Cabot's Cimarron Creek trilogy. This one focused on Catherine, the schoolteacher and cousin of Travis, from the first book. In this book, Catherine befriends a widower, Austin, who has just bought a ranch outside of town. His six-year-old daughter is withdrawn and Catherine is determined to help him restore Hannah to her usually bubbly self. Austin is drawn to Catherine, but is worried that a man from his past will come back to harm those he loves.

One of the things I love most about Amanda Cabot's books is that she doesn't shy away from tough topics, but weaves them into her stories in a way that is powerful. I'm looking forward to the final book in this trilogy.

A Borrowed Dream by Amanda Cabot is the second book in a series. I have read both books in this series so far and I really enjoy this author. This book has the thread of forgiveness running through it. First, there was the need, then there was the choice to forgive, and then there was the fruit of it. I found there to be some intense moments with a criminal involved. Whoosh! Lastly, I loved their journey of having captured hearts with each other. The cover is amazing and so is the book, check it out!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Borrowed Dream by Amanda Cabot is book 2 in the Cimarron Creek Trilogy. This book is historical fiction at its best. It is so well done that you will not want to leave your journey to the past. Catherine meets Austin, a new rancher in town. Can they find love? What are the secrets he's hiding? This is a fantastic read and I highly recommend it to readers that enjoy this genre.

I much preferred the first book in this series. This one was "okay" but a bit darker than I like, and there was a lot going on, it felt like too much at times.

I have read other books by Amanda Cabot and enjoyed them so I was looking forward to reading this one. I liked that the plot was a bit different than what I expected. It made the book so much more enjoyable. The book was well written and edited which is a big plus for me. I will gladly read more books by this author.

Book number two of the Cimarron Creek Trilogy is a great read! I enjoy Amanda Cabot's writing style and her stories. Austin Goddard is hiding from danger trying to protect his daughter. So he hides his past as a surgeon by becoming a rancher. He meets the school teacher when he moves into Cimarron Creek. Catherine is angry and grieving the loss of her mother because of the local doctor's treatments. Can they both overcome the past and move on to the future? With danger and romance this book is a great sequel. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I received e-this book from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.

Ah! After finishing Amanda Cabot’s book, The Borrowed Dream, I just want to bask in the glow of a clean, romantic western that touched all the right places of my heart. There is just the right amount of mystery with the disappearance years ago of the daughter of one of the founding families. There is suspense as rancher Austin Goddard tries to hide his true identity, yet still help people. There is romance as two people with very giving hearts are drawn together. Faith plays an important role, as well. How will God lead Catherine Whitfield and Austin to conquer fears and overcome evil in order to enjoy the life they believe God has for them?

Amanda Cabot somehow has masterfully mixed all these ingredients into a tale that has the feel of “Little House on the Prairie,” yet with faith and more suspense intertwined. The two children in this novel, Seth and Hannah, are delightful and major players in the drama. While The Borrowed Dream is book two of the series, it stands alone quite well.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way influences my opinions, freely given, for which I am solely responsible.

This is the first Amanda Cabot book that I have read, I'm glad that I found this "new to me" author. It looks like she has many books that I can dive into.

I enjoyed my time with A Borrowed Dream. The significance of the title is explained in the story, it is a perfect match for this book.

Catherine and Austin are both holding part of themselves back. They are reluctant to open their heart to someone, for very different reasons. I loved their learning curves as they struggled to understand the importance of each other and that it is a good thing to let another into your life.

Austin has an adorable daughter. Hannah was a large part of bringing them together. She also has struggles and the love that they both had for her carried the story in some places. I found this story to be paced well, but it lagged for me a little in the middle. I knew that there were unresolved issues that needed to be addressed, but I was ready for the happy ever after part. I was skeptical about the idea of a "plastic surgeon" in the late 1800's. It looks like the author did her research and it was really something available. I always like when I learn something new from my love of fiction reading.

This is the second book in a series. I have not read the first, but I do not feel like it impeded my understanding or enjoyment of the book. The first book is now on my TBR list and I would love to pick up the third when it is released.

The book does contain kissing and non-graphic violence. It is a Christian romance.

I recently had the chance to read A Borrowed Dream as part of the Extreme Book Nerd Challenge (a book with a character you intensely dislike). I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Catherine however I cannot say the same for all of her suitors. This was a wonderfully sweet story that I very much enjoyed. I love Amanda Cabot and look forward to reading the rest of the Cimarron Creek Trilogy.

A Borrowed Dream tells the story of Catherine and Austin. Catherine has trouble trusting, but soon learns to as she gets to know Austin. Austin has secrets of his own, but is just trying to do the best for his daughter. The two of them have to get past hurts and secrets and soon come to find hope in each other. A great read.

This book is a wonderful combination of historical fiction, suspense, and romance. Catherine Whitfield is a spinster schoolteacher who has just lost her mother. The death was horrible due to a doctor who was still using old fashioned healing. So she now hates all doctors. Austin Goddard is a widower with a young daughter who is running from danger to both he and his daughter. Once a plastic surgeon (and yes there were plastic surgeons in the 1880), he is now hiding as a rancher. Hannah and Seth are both adorable children struggling with problems. Hannah has retreated into silence and not eating since her mother died. Seth is beset by an abusive father. Each of these characters adds a special touch to this endearing story. Each of them with the help of the other three find a way back to happiness and normalcy. Cabot entwines a well written spiritual thread throughout the story line that adds to this story.

Cimarron Creek school teacher, Catherine Whitfield, doesn't trust doctors. She recently lost her mother, and blames the town doctor. So when one of her students gets hurt, she treats them herself using her library of medical books.

Austin Goddard and his 6 yr old daughter, Hannah, are new to town. Austin is worried about Hannah, she is quiet and withdrawn, not the happy child that she used to be before they moved. He hopes that going to school will help her adjust.

I like that Catherine welcomes Hannah, she encourages her to participate without forcing her into things. She and Austin work together to try and find ways to help her. Catherine helps Hannah open up, and they bond. Austin also helps Catherine with other students that she is worried about.

Catherine has a big heart, opening her home to strangers and her students. She is smart and capable, with a passion for helping everyone, but she has her reservations about Austin. I admired her faith and calm in stressful situations.

Austin is a man of faith, he is a good man and is a terrific father to Hannah.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It has great characters, and intriguing storyline with secrets and twists, as well as an action packed ending. The interaction is great, and Hannah is just precious. A fantastic read for fans of western romance.
