I didn’t really enjoy this book. It didn’t grip me and didn’t hold my attention. I did finish it but it felt like a chore to read

Unfortunately I didn’t love this one as much as I was hoping to. I liked the idea behind it and the storyline, but it fell flat for me. I can see why some people love this one, but it just wasn’t for me.

I enjoyed this much more than 'Behind Her Eyes'. I was gripped from the start, though I felt the ending was a letdown in comparison to the read of the book, it had major flaws and you certainly need to suspend belief to go along with it all.

A huge thanks to Harper Collins UK & NetGalley for gifting me a copy in return for an open & honest review.

A very complex book, with a convoluted plot, but so very readable. Sarah Pinborough just gets better, and certainly delivers with this.

I was so excited for this book after reading Behind Her Eyes a year ago, although these two books are very different in the sub genre I thoroughly enjoyed them both,

Cross her heart was a perfect read for me at the time and kept me gripped from the very first page. When I thought I had figured the twists out, something would happen to make me doubt everything I knew.

I'm eager to pick up any future works by Sarah Pinborough.

A Psychological thriller, yes please. I do love this genre and this book was definitely enjoyable, not the best I have read but still enjoyable to the end.

Cross her heart follows Lisa, she is a single mother to her daughter Ava who is her everything. She also loves her job and her best friend Marilyn, these three things are everything to her. Things take a turn when her daughter rescues a young boy from drowning. Lisa and her daughter are then thrust into the limelight and its taking a turn for the worst especially when her past is impacting her future.

Oh boy I did enjoy this book, the characters were well written and I really enjoyed the storyline. I always enjoy a book where there are twists and turns in it and it keeps you guessing. It definitely looks at even though there are secrets they don't always stay that way.

More twists and turns that a day at Alton Towers.

I just fell into the book and every now and then would look up in surprise to see that I was curled up reading.

Nothing else to add to the blurb for fear of adding spoilers.

I felt like this book was all over the place and there were so many different storylines going on. Eventually, some of them came together but I just wished it had been less confusing at first. I also wasn't sure why there were multiple perspectives - maybe Lisa and Ava's would have made sense, but at some point, Marilyn's POV was added and flashbacks at well, and I didn't like that at all. I have to admit, there were some surprises in this book, but I had also guessed a couple of things so it kind of balances out I guess...

Hmm this book had a really slow start, had to wait until I was about a third of the way through the book before it started getting interesting and for me I found the story a bit far-fetched.

That said it’s definitely not the worst book I have read and it had a few interesting twists and turns and I did like the mother and daughter characters Lisa and Ava, although the adult Lisa is the antithesis to her younger child self, which I would find it difficult that someone could change so much.

I’d like to thank NetGalley for giving me the chance to read this book in return for an honest review.

We meet Lisa, a single mother who is raising her sixteen-year-old daughter, Ava, without any help. With little or no-one in her life aside from Ava we meet a friend from work named Marilyn. Both women are similar in that they like to keep to themselves but they both have secrets. Ava also has secrets.

Ava is a member of the swim team and is trying to be more independent. She has friends, a boyfriend and someone she has been chatting to through Facebook. Someone no one knows about.....

Secrets, lies, betrayal, deception are all themes of this book. All the characters have secrets in this book.

What a rollercoaster of a ride! Starts slowly but speeds up.... so many twists its hard to keep up!

Some of it seems so far fetched however its a great read so just suspend your disbelief and enjoy!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Loved Behind her Eyes, unfortunately this one fell flat for me. I didn’t find this one as gripping, whereas I finished her previous novel in just two sittings, this one took me a while to finish

Single mother Lisa and sixteen year old daughter Ava feel like life is finally going their way when a stranger comes into their life who is interested in Lisa. Lisa appears to be the survivor of a past trauma, which Ava is unaware of. Friend Marilyn, is there to offer support and back story.
The narrative is told from three perspectives - Lisa, Ava and Marilyn - and as we get to know them, their secrets begin to emerge. Told through flashbacks, this enables an understanding of their past experiences and how they have shaped current events. Full of twists and turns, this was a tense read, which I wanted to finish so I knew what had happened and who is telling the truth. Although it features a controlling male character, the focus is on the three women as the centre of the novel. I found this to be a smart, gripping boom, with believable characters caught up in extreme circumstances.

First book I have read from this author and it was a gripping read.

You follow Lisa, her daughter Ava and best friend Marilyn. Things aren’t as they seem and you learn about Lisa’s past that she has kept hidden and why she has kept people at arms length.

A thrilling and gripping read.

I really enjoyed Behind Her Eyes, but Cross Her Heart didn’t quite live up to its predecessor. I love a psychological thriller, but I’m not a fan of them concluding with endings that don’t seem to make much sense.

Slow to start with many twists, turns and red herrings but went a bit over the top towards the end for me. I felt a bit disappointed, disconnected and underwhelmed; it almost felt that the ending was a bit rushed and an idea vomit happened. I didn't really engage with the characters or believe the storyline either. Mehhh.

I had loved Sarah Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes and so gud into this one. Another brilliant story and very well written.

The last book I read got worse at the end - so I was very pleased to find that this one got better, the further I got through the book! I liked the twists, which weren't always signposted, and found it interesting how the author revealed the past of the main character, which although somewhat depressing, made her a much more understandable character. The end became a bit nail-biting.
