I’ve read many of this author’s books and have enjoyed them all. The storyline sounded intriguing with Anna’s parents committing suicide, but makes you think if it was really suicide or murder? I liked Anna’s character but found myself switching backwards and forwards with my opinion of her. She’d obviously had an awful time with both parents dying so soon after each other, but some of her other life choices were questionable. I thought her relationship with her partner, Mark was a little rushed, particularly falling pregnant very soon after meeting him.

The storyline is told from the perspective of both Anna and civilian police worker/ex-detective Murray McKenzie who is looking into the idea that Anna’s parents were murdered. I liked Murray’s character and empathised with his storyline, both with his wife’s mental health struggles and his longing to be working back as a police officer. The storyline twisted and turned, starting off slowly and building pace as it moved on. Some of the plot seemed a little far-fetched at times, but it held my attention and kept me guessing as to where it was heading. As with this author’s other books, it was well-written and full of suspense and tension. Murray’s side of the storyline was by far the more enjoyable, but Anna’s character was interesting and full of questions! Would recommend.

Why did I pick it?
I have loved some of Clare Mackintosh’s previous books so when this one was announced and I read the synopsis, I knew it was one I had to try.

What I loved about it
The suspense and twists in this book are crazy. It’s rare these days that a book has me completely hooked in that way. I got to the main plot twist early one morning on the way to work. I was late to work that day as I just had to stay sat in my car listening to more just to get my head straight again.

Clare Mackintosh is great at creating flawed characters that you love to hate. Whether they are the “bad guys” or not you really feel for them and their experiences. Characters in her books are never black and white, they linger in the grey areas where people are “bad” because of their life choices and experiences and I love that.

When you initially start the book you may be forgiven for thinking it’s a little far fetched and not what you expected. All I shall say is stick with it, it’s not what you think!

What I loathed about it
The ending. Not exactly loathed but it didn’t give much clarity, it’s open to interpretation as to what actually happens. Now I’m sure that was the intention but for me I need it spelling out after all the twists and turns in the rest of the book.

Thoughts
Ok so it’s not my favourite book from Clare Mackintosh but it is well worth investing time in. Let Me Lie is a book full of twists and turns that even for a seasoned reader of similar novels will enjoy as it will keep you guessing until the very end.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

In this story we meet Anna who is still coming to terms with the death of both her father and mother. A new mother herself, Anna misses that connection with her own parents. So when the past creeps into her life Anna finds herself determined to discover the truth about what happened to her parents. Was it suicide? Or something else entirely!

I will admit this book had me thinking up some very crazy theories and my imagination was definitely on overdrive. The plot itself can definitely be described as a slow burner but then again my curiosity was at a high as all the secrets and lies began to unravel. I enjoyed the side plot with Murray and his wife as it helped to add a bit more depth to the story. Let Me Lie will take you on quite a twisty journey with a few interesting surprises along the way!

This was the perfect holiday, by the swimming pool, read. I read it over two days and really enjoyed it. I had no idea how it was going to end as it was full of twists, turns and surprises.
Another winner from Clare Mackintosh. I can’t wait to see what surprises her next book holds.

I love this author as one you know always delivers . And yet again she has .! A few characters not so likeable but I really warmed to Murray who decides to take on the task by himself of investigating the two suicides in question . 4 stars

Anna is struggling with the death of both of her parents within a few months of each other after they both committing suicide. On the anniversary of her mother’s death, she receives an anonymous card causing her to question whether it really was suicide.

It’s so hard to get into details without spoilers so this is going to be one of those books that you need to read for yourself as I would hate to spoil it for anyone. Also with all the drastically varying reviews on this book, I’d say it is best to make up your own mind, I personally feel like it was worth the read!

It is a definite slow-burn psychological thriller but it definitely picks up after part two so stick with it, it is well worth it.

Told from multiple narrators viewpoints the story alternates between Anna, an unknown, and a retired detective named Murray which I really loved. The twists were very well done with some that blindsided me in a really good way.

I read a lot of suspense thrillers so I am used to keeping everyone in the suspects column and generally it always ends up being the person you least expect, and yet knowing this, this book still caught me off guard 😀

When the truth does eventually come to light be prepared, you may need to dab at your eyes 😂

I would definitely recommend it to any suspense/thriller lover regardless of other people’s reviews/opinions. Read it for yourself as it is one you will have to make your on mind up!

Another great novel from Clare Mackintosh. This focuses on Anna, who is coming to terms with the deaths of her parents in awful circumstances. This kept me reading late at night, and I was kept guessing until the end. One of my must-read authors.

I'd figured out the twist from the tagline but Clare is always worth reading. Well written but easily worked out.

A very, very interesting and compelling mystery. that kept me guessing right up to the very end. Written from the perspectives of three of the characters offered a complete 360 on the story and timeline. Mackintosh is an excellent suspenseful crime writer and this book proves to be up there with the very best

I love Clare Mackintosh's every book, but this one is my favourite so far. The twist what she put in it just made everything more complex. I loved the fact that it shows even though Anna loved her mum and dad she wasn't fully aware of every situation. I felt sorry for her mum all way long until there was a clue, actually is not the dad who is bad.

On the other hand, the old retired policeman situation was a bit old story what a lot of writers used or using.

Clare Mackintosh is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I have read all her published books so far and although this current title took a little longer to get into i can honestly say you will not be disappointed. The story unfolds and the twists are not predictable. i look forward to the next one.

One year ago Caroline Johnson commited suicide in exactly the same way as her husband had months before. Their daughter Anna now lives in their home with the man who was initially her grief counselor and their newborn daughter. A lot has happened in that time so when she receives a note shedding doubt on the suicide verdict it's no wonder her partner is concerned for her wellbeing. Anna has convinced herself they were murdered and her certainty starts a series of events that soon spiral out of control and places all of her new family in danger.

I've really dithered on how to rate this. At different stages I've felt it was a five star stonker to thinking actually it's more of a three star slog. So I've settled on giving it four stars. Because it's classic Clare Mackintosh, pacy and well written, the suspense building throughout. But the story just isn't as good as her previous offerings so try as I might I couldn't help compare it to them. Which is perhaps unfair but certainly the price of success! But as thrillers go this is still very readable and is a definite one sitting read.

Let Me Lie was Claire Mackintosh at her best. She is the queen of the twist in my opinion & the twists certainly kept coming in this book. Can’t wait to read whatever she comes up with next

If you like your books twisty and turny then Clare Mackintosh will be right up your street. There were a few "gotcha's", one of which I guessed and the others which I didn't. I bloody love it when I get it wrong as so many of these types of books are easy to predict these days. Fabulous book!

As I expected, Let Me Lie is a twisty psychological thriller. There's a lot of expectation within the psychological thriller market for big OMG twists that you won't see coming, with Clare Mackintosh's first book I Let You Go being one of the most high-profile (and excellent) debuts triggering this trend. I do feel though that many authors are now searching for these OMG moments (feeling it's a 'must'), yet many readers (including me) are just as happy with a fast-paced enjoyable less-twisty plot and great writing. I loved some aspects of this book but found it far fetched in places - something that I've found with many books in this genre recently, as authors try to find something 'different' to shock their readers. But that is very much my personal taste. Some people love the far fetched plots, so don't let that put you off reading this one. There's a lot of backstory slotted into the plot and this slowed down the pace for me. I found my mind wandering a little and I skim-read some of it. I didn't particularly like any of the characters, other than Murray (the policeman) and would have loved to see more of him and his wife Sarah. As mentioned, the plot is a twisty one, with a few 'did that happen?' moments - I guessed early on what had happened to Anna's parents, although I didn't know the why (and I did guess who else was involved too). I'm sure that Let Me Lie will be a fantastic read for many psychological thriller fans - most people love it, just not me this time.

I have loved all of Ms Mackintosh's books and this one was no exception. A totally absorbing psychological thriller which I had trouble putting down. Don't miss this great read. 4.5* from me. My thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the advance reader copy.
