I think Jane Asher should stick to making cakes and writing cookery books.. I don’t think writing fiction books is her forte as this book was terrible, no flow, simple and silly storyline and I gave up on it.

I was looking forward to this book, unfortunately it fell under the hype for me. I didnt realise that it was a re-published book as well. I found the story far-fetched and hard to relate to the characters

Catching up on reviews

This book has been on my TBR forever. Check the year published.

Maybe I started this book on my kindle then ditched it for a bit then forgot? Because although this theme, topic of a story sounded good to me at the time, it’s a topic that has been written oftentimes. And I’m not being mean, but better.

This was too convenient.

Everything was just worked out. Ya know?

Not for me.

I only got to 49% of this book. It felt very dated and the characters rather prim and stuck up.
What finalised it for me was the death of a dog. The way it was laughed over and treated as if it was a comedy. I decided not to continue.

Fantastic novel which kept me hooked throughout. Really tense writing keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. Thanks for the opportunity to read.

All she wanted was a baby.... So she does whatever it is she had to do to get a baby... Even if that means taking someone else's baby... Such a thrilling, entertaining read that I devoured and flew through the pages. I cannot imagine having my baby taken away from me, so I couldn't wait to see what would happen in this story and to uncover how the story would play out and see what would happen next.

An interesting read that will keep you hooked as you flip through the chapters.

I enjoyed this book and found the writing style very easy to follow, making it an enjoyable and easy read. Would recommend

The subject matter is hard to make entertaining and combine that with too far fetched a plot made for a low two stars from me

The longing was an addictive read that I struggled to put down. Didn’t expect the twist at the end. A fab book that I really enjoyed.

Michael and Juliet Evans long for a baby but are forced to resort to a world of private clinics and medical jargon. As they wait, Juliet's grasp on reality begins to slide. Into the picture comes Anna, a young, single mother from Glasgow whose child is missing.

The longing by Jane Asher.
All she wanted was a baby. Was that so much to ask? A baby to nourish in her body, to give birth with pain and pleasure, to adore. A baby to suckle and care for, to clean and cuddle and comfort. A baby to make her whole and complete. But her womb was empty and its emptiness filled her days and her nights, invaded her dreams, determined every waking thought. A baby. All she wanted was a baby…
This was a good read with likeable characters. 4*.

Thank you to netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review. I have never read a Jane Asher book so I was intrigued to see that this is a reprint from 1996 and was her debut novel.

Juliet and Michael are married with good careers but do want children. After 9 years of marriage they decide to try harder to have a baby and start off by going down the ovulation testing route. This however doesn’t work and performing to order somewhat kills the passion!!

Juliet and Michael attempt IVF which is the start of Juliet’s mental decline.

I was fascinated to see how this would end but unfortunately I found it too far fetched and found some of the characters damn right annoying!!! Not for me.

This is a reprint from 1996 and it shows. I found the story old fashioned and dated. There are much, much better books to buy.

Juliet and Michael are on a sad journey of infertility....which causes mental problems and for Juliet to snatch another baby. This is a book that is character led where their personalities are slowly unraveled through reading the book, an enjoyable read

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I struggled to get through this book as it kept going back and forwards (hence the delay in sending through my review) I am glad I did as the ending was great and it was quite an emotional subject,.

Unfortunately I realised I had read this a long time ago and didn't really want to reread it. Therefore I can't give an up to date honest opinion.

I've read this book from net gallery, the story line isn't something I normally read and this was a very refreshing change, Juliette was a strong character through out this books, really enjoyed the story line but the ending was a bit abrupt

This is a heartbreaking story of motherhood, Considering there are so many real life scenarios similar to what Juliet and Michael go through made it tough to read for me. Overall it's not a bad book and the heavy subject will make you remember it- so not one of those books you'll read and instantly forget. but it wouldn't be my pick in a bookshop due to upsetting nature of the story.

this is the first book i’ve read by this author and won’t be the last.

i usually read police procedural/thriller type books so this was a welcome change. the book starts with the abduction of a baby from his pram whilst his young mother is shopping and events start to interlink with a couple desperately trying for a longed for baby and their route down the IVF path.

as the story unfolds you feel empathy for all the characters involved and the heartaches they endure. the subject matter is emotional and sad but well worth a read.

many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
