Whoever told Will.I.Am that he can write a YA book should have told him to just stick to music. A great musician, yes... author... not so much. This was just weird, weird, weird. Not for me.

This book was a little bonkers, I have to admit. There's a lot of jumping about from different times and it took me a while to realise that two of the characters were from the same time... but one had been 'held in time' for 600 years-ish...
The book is action-packed filled with good guys, bad guys, and morally grey guys. There's a lot of characters that seem to be left without an ending so maybe the book was set to be a duology? Who knows? An interesting book to pick up for fans of both magic and robots.

I will not be giving feedback on this book as I couldn’t really get into it but I think others may enjoy it.

This book was, unfortunately, not for me. I feel I might have had the wrong expectations going in. I decided to DNF'it in order to avoid giving a negative review. I'm sure it could be the right the fit for others.

I did not know what I was expecting with this book, and to be honest it wasn't for me. I struggled with the writing and didn't enjoy it at all. There was just too much for my brain to take in - what with the characters and what was going on.

I liked this book but I really wanted to love it. It is set in three different time periods and I was really interested in seeing how the stories would come together. Although I enjoyed the writing, I got a little confused as there were just too many characters and so much was going in. The book is unique in what it has to offer- a new blend of fantasy and sci-fi!

I recommend this to fans of sci-fi and fantasy looking for something different, but I wish it was a little shorter but otherwise a good read!

It has taken me a while to get to read this book. It is aimed at older children and I am sure for them is full of adventure and intrigue with a mix of wizards from the past meeting robots in the future in order to save the world. At times the changes in direction were quite dizzying however for someone a lot younger it helps to intensify the danger and magic in the story.
Thanks for the free read net galley.

An exciting and imaginative read! I always loved a sci-fi book and this definitely didn't disappoint.

Fun and interesting, with a fast-moving plot and some endearing characters. I wouldn't say I loved it whole-heartedly, but I definitely enjoyed reading it enough to recommend it.

I've had this on my Kindle for a while and finally got around to giving this another go after starting it previously and ditching it in favour of something else.
I'm glad I gave it another go. It's marketed as children's fiction or YA and that's not me (as a middle-ager!) but nonetheless I've tried it out to see if it's one to read to the kids or stretch my eldest with).
Unfortunately, it's not one I'll be going back to or passing to my eldest.
Why? Well what's not to like right? Wizards, robots, time travel, spells... all the right ingredients are here for a classic.
There was an overall good story here but the world and characters just weren't painted clearly enough for me which meant despite the fast action pace and chopping around between centuries I didn't really feel enough involved in the whole story.
There were a relatively large number of characters involved for a youth book and you don't really firmly get to grips with any of them.
I get that the book was relatively short and so there's obviously a loss of detail in keeping it that way (and more youth accessible I guess) but although the premise was good it fell a little flat for me and fell short of what it could have been.
As ever however, thank you for the preview copy.

The premise of this book was so interesting, but I was wary due to the co-author. Sadly that waryness should have been heeded. This book wasn't gripping and I was essentially bored throughout.

Wizards and Robots - how could it go wrong? I'm still not sure, but I could not persevere with this story. It gripped me in no way.

This was a very strange, disappointing book. I love scifi, I love time travel, and I like complicated plots. This has all of these, and more, but I found it a bit hard to follow and I kept saying to myself 'but why?'. Had this book brought all the threads together towards the end with a great ending, I would have given it four stars. But the ending was dire - it just seemed to peter out, which was an awful shame to something with many good ideas at the start.

An interesting premise but for some reason I couldn’t get going with it. The characters and storyline just didn’t do it for me when this should be all about my tases!! Sorry guys. I’ll keep it and come back to it

I really wanted to enjoy this book but was left feeling underwhelmed. We will be buying it because it’s by Will.i.am and we know there will be requests for his content. However there seemed to be subplots underdeveloped and a very standard concept with one dimensional characters.

DNF

I've been going back through my NetGalley shelf to give feedback on those books which I've tried to read twice and have been unable to finish on both occasions - always want to give a second chance in case I disliked something due to my mood that day etc.

Unfortunately on both occasions I was only able to get a few chapters into this one, the writing style is just not what I was expecting at all. I'm wondering if perhaps I was expecting something more YA than this is - this is definitely a book for younger children and as that isn't really my area of expertise don't feel able to review more thoroughly.

(Not posting the review elsewhere as I didn't finish)

I struggled with this book as I had problems keeping my attention. I enjoyed the thought of the book and got really excited when I read about it but I felt it was just a bit to out there than I had hoped.

Really enjoyable! I loved the mash-up of wizards and robots, and the jumps between the past, (present-ish) and the future. Once you got to know the characters it was easy to follow. Obviously quite topical too, with the debates around AI going on at the moment.

WAR: Wizards and Robots – Will I Am

Embarrassingly, I have had this book sitting on my kindle for the longest time – I was sent an eGalley for review a couple of millennia ago – so apologies.

When a young man breaks into her home claiming her life is in danger, Ada Luring’s world changes forever. Geller is a wizard, on the run from his father’s hidden clan who want to kill Ada and her mother. Sara Luring is the scientist who will create the first robot, the wizards’ age-old foes. But a robot has travelled back in time to find Ada, and will lay everything on the line to protect her, as she may just be the key to preventing the earth’s destruction in the future. Ada, Geller and the robots must learn to work together to change the past and secure the future. But they don’t have much time before a mysterious enemy launches its attack on Earth…

Ok, so how amazing does the concept of this book sound? There are not only wizards??? But also robots?!?! Iconic.

The thing is, as amazing and batshit crazy as this sounds, it has sadly become the first book I DNF’d this year, I just didn’t gel with it, which was such a shame because Will I Am is a certified genius.

I think had I gotten this book when I was about 10 I’d have LOVED this. Did I mention there are robots and wizards and they are at war? Because seriously, 10 year old Leah would be all over that. The idea of robots from the future besieging castles and fighting wizards would have been enough, I literally wouldn’t have cared about the execution, the confusing cast of characters and the time jumps that took too long for me to figure out. 29 year old me was still drawn to the idea because come on, robots and wizards, but boy did I struggle to get my head around it.

This is great if you want to pass the time with a fipperous sci fi book, but it really wasn’t for me, sorry Will I Am!
