This gave an insight into Japanese lifestyle away from the big cities, but was very slow and drawn out in places.

I loved this book so much! The author was incredibly descriptive about his time working in a horrible Japanese paper factory and learning Kendo when he didn't speak the language. It was poignant and sweet, a wonderful memoir.
