I received a free copy of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I felt for Ben and his struggle to come back to himself after a life-altering accident. I was rooting for him to get back to himself. The pace wasn't quite what I was hoping for, not that you can really do too much about pace in a memoir. It was an okay book, but not a favorite.

This is an exceptional book, unlike anything I’ve ever read before. I found the start, where the accident occurred and the family were told about it, to be very emotional, dramatic and hard-hitting. This set the tone for most of the book. There were times of light relief to break this up throughout, but Bens recovery was difficult and he fought hard to get through it.

The format of the story was quite unique. Rather than it just being a story told from an outide disjointed perspective, a different approach to story telling was used. Through the story, as a new person was introduced, they would tell the story from their perspective for a chapter. It would then revert back to his mum, Dad or sister; whoever had been spending a lot of time with Ben. Later on the chapters would periodically revert back to Ben to take control of the narrative as his health improved.

I enjoyed this format as not only did it move the story forward, but it allowed the reader to get to know each new author at the start and then their honest feelings during Bens recovery. It was only towards the end of the book, as Ben was well again, sometimes this could be a bit repetitive as each author would say the same thing. This didn’t spoil things though.

An excellent truly inspirational true story of amazing courage and triumph over adversity. Ben is a remarkable young man with a great set of friends and family around him.

When i first seen this book on NetGalley, I was extremely interested in reading about Ben, and his fight to become himself again after a horrible car accident. I breezed through the first half of the book. I enjoyed the back and forth story telling from multiple points of view. The fact that all of Ben's family and friends came together to write this book was a definite plus for me, as I enjoy seeing all points of view, however it is easy to get lost in the story a bit, as some bits were over told multiple times. The second half of this book was a little dry for me, and I really struggled to finish it. All in all, I did think that this was an important book that had to be written. I'm not sure how often i'll be recommending it though.

I do not like to give a low star rating, but I just found this book difficult to read. The writing was perhaps not the best. Only my opinion.
