I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but was soon drawn into a great read.
A brilliant mix of SciFi and detective story, well written and likeable characters, fast paced and will keep you guessing to the end. I really hope there is going to be another book.

Transilience is an excellent work of futuristic detective noir.  It takes place in a Bladerunneresque city on Mars, populated by a mix of humans and androids.  Business is slow for Daniel Helmqvist, but first one big case then another falls in his lap.  The first starts in a classic manner - a beautiful and troubled young woman approaches him with a nigh-impossible case; prove that the man convicted of a terrorist attack on earth a decade before is innocent and that the true mastermind is the most powerful woman on Mars.  The second case is more morally questionable, to find who is in possession of a powerful company’s dirty little secret and end the blackmail.   Little does Helmqvist know that these cases will take him outside his comfort zone and set him upon an adventure that will lead him to question what is human.

Transilience moves along at a fast pace, with plenty of action to keep readers attention.  Helmqvist is a charming narrator, witty and easygoing.  His narration lightens an otherwise dark plot, adding just a touch of humor.  He’s not your ordinary hero.  I enjoyed Transilience a great deal.  It was fun, flashy and fast-paced, an action filled sci-fi debut that shows Kevin Bragg has promise as an author.

4 / 5

I received a copy of Transilience from the publisher and Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
