There are some very interesting parts to this book about teams on the fringes of football. The chapter about football during WW2 was fascinating and something I knew little about.
Unfortunately in parts this book is a little repetitive and doesn't hang together as a book too well. It reads more like a collection of essays

Mat Guy understands football, real football, the football that real fans give their hearts and minds to. This book is an amazing journey into a world that brings joy to millions.

I enjoyed this book and it was clearly written by a man who was passionate about lower league and forgotten football. However I found the chapters too long and perhaps contained lots of details that didn't help the end product. A solid three star book, thanks to netgalley.co.uk for the review copy.

A book about football, what is there not to like about it?! LOL I enjoyed this book as it went behind the posh/big named players/teams to tell us about the very small minnow teams that without them as part of the food chain, football couldn't exist without.

A lovely, well written, charming and evocative book that ranges far and wide into the nooks and crannies of the football world and shines a rare, welcome and unexpected spotlight on some of the forgotten heroes of the game.

The author visits countries as diverse as Wales, Tibet and Palestine and in his a=unassuming way digs deep and unearths some stories of how football inspires and brings communities together.

If you like the books written in this vein by James Montague, you will love this too.
