I am a huge fan of Ghosts!! I love fiction and non fiction book both. This one just happens to be non fiction. Mark George Egerton takes us on a fascinating trip to Huntingdonshire to hunts ghosts with him. He explores if not all but several of the Ghost stories from the area. he brings the lore to life in this book not only with his words but also with illustrations.

Mark George Egerton does not just take peoples word that a place is haunted nor does he take their word on the history of the place. He actually does leg work to find the true history of the place, t find witnesses to the the hauntings, and he goes into the place and tries to interact with the spirits residing there.

I personally very much enjoyed this book and would love to go to Huntingdonshire for myself and experience the spirits there.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.

A fun and very readable guide to the paranormal happenings in this area. Perfect for the holiday maker looking for information.

I had a lot of fun (and also got a little scared) reading this very interesting book. Author Mark George Egerton provides anecdotes, photos, and historical information that make for a compelling read about ghoulies and ghosties across the pond. I loved his obvious passion for the topic and I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in British haunted history or ghosts/paranormal.

I thought this was a super fun book to read. I like that it was broken up into section that were based on places. It was like you were just traveling through the area and going on a ghost tour. I liked that you got a background of the places and what had happened and what was happening today. I thought it was one of the better haunted history books I have read and would definitely recommend it to others.

This was an interesting read despite coming across as rather disjointed.

The sections that were pure historical description were well executed and obviously the result of extensive research. These portions were reasonably academic in nature, giving an interesting and enjoyable third party account of the events described. However, the sections that were written from a first person perspective regarding the paranormal investigations themselves seemed to be as if written by another person. The language and construction was overly simplistic and did not mesh well with the general tone of the rest of the book.

Overall this was an interesting tour through the history and geography of Huntingdonshire, directly inspired by the paranormal events associated with this region.

2 stars.

There wasn't anything really wrong with it, it just wasnt for me. I do like these kind of books but I think it would have been more appealing if I had had a better understanding of Huntingdonshire other that the paranormal side. Also I'm not really a hard core true believer. I'm open to the idea but I think deep down I dont believe it, but who knows! I like to have fun with these books and pretend it's all real. It makes me really get into them and enjoy them. That said, I found the use of altered photographs just wiped all that away for me. Some are clearly fakes where the author has added in images on top of original photos. Anybody with eyes can see that they are fake and it just put me off. But I won't write this book off, I'd pass it onto others as I believe some people would really enjoy this. The author clearly out alot of hard work and time into it and it shows.

First of all I need to say that I have never heard of Huntingdonshire, or of this author. This was a fascinating journey for me. I loved that the conclusions were honest. I respect the fact that he did not find everywhere to be haunted. This was full of historical facts, beautiful pictures, and wonderful illustrations. Anyone could learn facts from this book. Everyone knows I love the ghosts and there are a few very interesting ones included here. I appreciated the author's research and attention to detail. I would love to meet this author. I am sure he can hold a mind blowing conversation.

Mark George Egerton has created an interesting book, The Haunted History of Huntingdonshire, which includes a touch of mystery with a historical basis. I thought it was a great read for a dark winter evening with a blanket to huddle under. Full Disclosure: I was allowed to read a copy of this book for free as a member of NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not influenced to give a positive review.

This book is more travel guide than anything else. It might better be marketed that way. The stories of hauntings are not unique or told in an in depth way--tales you might hear at the local pub but not much more than that. Of interest, perhaps to locals or those doing a ghost tour. On the plus side, it is readable and includes some nice photos of the locations mentioned.

Full Disclosure--Net Gallery and the publisher provided me with a digital ARC of this book. This is my honest review.

I've never heard of Huntingdonshire, let alone ever thought about visiting, but it's definitely now on my list of places to go. I read this book purely due to my fascination with the spirit world. This is probably one of the best books I've read that's dealt with the paranormal. Mark never once made stories up for the purpose of entertainment; if he visited a haunted place and there was no paranormal activity that he could find, then that was exactly what he told the reader. He looked to all logical explanations first before making decisions, spent a lot of time finding witnesses and also a lot of time researching. I really enjoyed seeing all the pictures, as it meant I didn't have to try and imagine what these places might look like and actually be able to see for myself. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is due to repetition. Some stories were brought up quite a few times, including that of the drummer boy.

England is home to many of the most haunted places that we read about. Mark Egerton takes us on a tour of the countryside around his county. Places, legends and more are brought to light we travel village to village.

From royal legends, long standing building, and buildings that have been gone for years, there are some very interesting stories within this book, but there are also stories that you almost feel don't quite make the cut to be included. I like that he was able to interview some of the current owners, but many times I felt that some of the legends were being stretched and marketed into something that might be more believable, but fell short.

While this has the potential to be a great book, there needs to be some massive editing done. Quite a few of the sentences are redundant, and with some rewriting and proper editing - this book could do quite well. There is a lot of information included, and some great photos! There are many places where the sentences repeat themselves, words are misspelled, and some thoughts just fall off with no conclusion.

I am pleasantly surprised by the quality, content and style of this book on British hauntings. This is a subject often wrangled by quickie authors who haven't got much to add but in this case the author has really endeavored to clearly describe personal parapsychological experiences. When he gets into a particular incident he writes with detail. He lets us know what others have said or felt as well. He doesn't force us to read page after page of attempts to communicate that lead to nothing,. He supplies history as well and in the UK there's plenty of history to know. I was entertained by the book and inspired to go see some things for myself. Lastly, the author includes many excellent photographs. Well done.

In fairness, I should not that this book committed one of my pet peeves – the use of whilst. Seriously, people need to stop with that.
That aside, this is a pretty good little book about the haunted areas of Huntingdonshire. Egerton covers a wide variety of places and different types of haunts. He also does the research and leg work into the stories, spending as much time the library or with local historians as camping out for the ghosts.
The style is light and enjoyable. You never feel like you are being given a history lecture or trying to be convert to “ghosts are real and you better believe”. There is a certain joy and wonder to Egerton’s style that transmits quite easily to the reader. He also gives you enough information for a reader to find the places.
Nicely done.

I love a good ghost story, and one based on real events is even better. Egerton explores the haunts of this British county (and there are a lot!), and he does it in a way that will appeal to people who like a little history with their goosebumps. Real information about real people and real places is given, along with the purported hauntings and the author’s impression and experiences at each location. I really enjoyed this book, it’s an intelligent person’s guide to ghostly (or not) locations

I can honestly say I have stepped out of my comfort zone with this read. I usually stay clear of paranormal stories and I’m not too keen on non fiction so now your asking why I’ve read it. Well I live in Bedfordshire which is the county next to Huntingdonshire where this book is written about.

This is an A4 sized book with plenty of pages to dig into. I found myself reading a few chapters each time I picked it up. The photos and illustrations are fantastic.

Great praise to the author on writing this story. He’s written it in such a way that a lay person like myself can read and enjoy. There’s a great wealth of information in this book that I found very interesting.

I can honestly say I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
