I did enjoy this book but at times found it confusing. I feel like it was really slow moving at the start and had some parts possibly been cut out, it could have had a much higher rating

This is going to sound strange. I don't like the myth of the slender man. I don't know what it is but I can't bear to read about this urban legend or hear about it. That said, I read most of this book and had nightmares for weeks. This could be a selling point for readers who like to hear about the fears of others for things that don't exist.

Thank you for approving this title for me and I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to review it.

Unfortunately I haven’t enjoyed this book. It just was not for me. I expected it to be more exciting and gripping.

Thank you NetGalley, I am sorry to say I found this book to be long hard work. Unfortunately it didn’t grip me at all and I didn’t rush to pick it up at all. I disliked the characters. I am sorry to say I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Its taken me a long time to finish this book as I have given it multiple tries but unfortunately cannot connect with the story. Its not terrible, just not for me.

I am in charge of the senior library and work with a group of Reading Ambassadors from 16-18 to ensure that our boarding school library is modernised and meets the need of both our senior students and staff. It has been great to have the chance to talk about these books with our seniors and discuss what they want and need on their shelves. I was drawn to his book because I thought it would be something different from the usual school library fare and draw the students in with a tempting storyline and lots to discuss.
This book was a really enjoyable read with strong characters and a real sense of time and place. I enjoyed the ways that it maintained a cracking pace that kept me turning its pages and ensured that I had much to discuss with them after finishing. It was not only a lively and enjoyable novel but had lots of contemporary themes for our book group to pick up and spend hours discussing too.
I think it's important to choose books that interest as well as challenge our students and I can see this book being very popular with students and staff alike; this will be an excellent purchase as it has everything that we look for in a great read - a tempting premise, fantastic characters and a plot that keeps you gripped until you close its final page.

I was really looking forward to reading this book as it's based on the Slenderman internet myth. But the narrative wasn't as engaging as I would have liked. It seemed to take a long time to get to the payoff

A totally twist filled well written book, that keeps you guessing

But we never actually meet the Tall Man, just lots of references to him

Highly recommended

Heart in your mouth epic read is how I can describe this book. I loved this whole twisted tale and really think everyone else will too... a blockbuster in the making. Brilliant.

This was one of those titles where the synopsis just grabs you! Just my kind of book and I was right. It was addictive and twisty. The development of the characters was brilliant, with each one vivid in my mind. I have to say I did find the timeline confusing and it switched about quite a bit but once I had my head around that I enjoyed it and finished it in two sittings.

The Tall Man, creepy urban legend or evil entity?
Whatever he is Sadie believes he is haunting her and will harm her daughter. So she abandons her to be raised by her father, returning when Amber turns 16 and she believes the curse has passed.

The story moves between Sadie's introduction to The Tall Man, the time that she leaves the family, and after Amber's murder trial acquittal. Was there really a curse? Or did Sadie have post natal depression? Or the consequence of peer pressure, manipulation and mental illness?

I consider myself very privileged to have read this brilliantly written book. It was well written, full of twists and turns, and kept me paging over and over again, I just had to see how everything played out!
Well done, highly recommended.

I really wanted to love this as it reminded me of the legends I used to hear about as a child. But I just couldn't get to grips with this book. Multiple timelines, very confusing and we don't actually encounter "the tall man". Just fleeting references of him. This could have been so much better with just a few tweaks but it seems as though this is not the author's usual genre of interest and had been merely written as a fleeting thing with not much enthusiasm behind it.

A really enjoyable read, which created a fair level of suspense without ever taking you to edge of the seat terror.
Enough curious behaviour, and inexplicable coincidences to keep you turning the pages.
I never felt invested in any of the characters, none of the leads could be defined as "a hero", none of them are sympathetic enough to want identify with. The result is that you are interested in how the story unfolds, without ever caring what happens to whom.
Capably enough written in a way that the style doesn't get in the way of a good story.

I really enjoyed how the narrative structure of this book moved between different timelines, so the reader had to piece the truth together. I found it an inventive, unsettling read and I found it hard to predict the ending. I'd recommend it to fans of The Chalk Man and fiction that blends horror, crime and the supernatural.

Based upon a true story, this account of what happened when three schoolgirls were psychologically manipulated into committing the most horrendous and chilling crime, is quite gripping.

Investigative journalist, Greta, strikes up a relationship with Amber as she tries to unravel the historical facts behind events that led up to Amber murdering somebody in the woods. The clever part is that we don’t find out the identity of Amber’s victim until the final chapters.

I struggled with the skipping back and forth in time between 1999, 2016 and 2018. That made my head spin.

The first 30% of the book ran at a good pace and the last few chapters were so compelling that I just could not stop reading. However, I found that the middle chapters of the book, the majority, were slow-moving, monotonous and repetitive. That’s a real shame. If the author had put some effort into maintaining the pace of the beginning and the end, it would have been a true thriller.

This is a great story, but it is only an okay read. I wouldn’t recommend it if, like me, you have many other books in your TBR mountain.

The Tall Man has been marketed as a chilling thriller - but unfortunately for me I think I am in the minority here because I didn't find The Tall Man chilling or frightening but that's probably me and not the book.

The story follows Amber Banner a young girl who has been acquitted of a murder charge and now finds herself thrust into the media spot light and filmed by a documentary crew whilst she is on a media tour in The States.

With flashback chapters from 2 years prior leading up to the murder and her mother Sadie's story who abandoned Amber whilst she was only a few weeks old and returns when she is 16 The Tall Man has 3 different timelines, many characters and can, in places, be confusing.

Having read other reviews, I am sure the majority of readers will find this scary, chilling and gripping, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Perhaps my expectations were too high for this book as i felt rather let down. There was so much build up but no pay off. I wanted a creepy thrilling book based on Slenderman but that's not what i got. It felt like this book was trying to jump on the bandwagon of the documentary and movie which looked into the attempted murder which the young girls tried to blame on the myth.

It took a little bit to get into. At times it was confusing, but over all an enjoyable read if you stick with it.
