This book looks at what happens when the thing you think you want the least turns out to be what you needed most and it opens a part of you, you never knew existed. Further, it looks at how to truly admit who you are and what you love.

This book was a quick summery read, with likable characters, beautiful descriptions and a predictable storyline.

Such a lovely heartwarming tale, taking the reader from sadness to joy as well as from cold London to beautiful Italy. A very enjoyable read.

I thought I knew exactly what this would be about. From the title and the cover I admit I expected a typical 'chick-lit' book (absolutely detest that phrase, but love the books that fall into that category, just FYI). I thought this was going to be a simple enough love story and I was so ready to read it.

In fact, the book is a lot more complex that that. Mia is sent to her mother's homeland of Ischia, a small Italian island, by her father. He's dying of cancer and doesn't want her there to witness it, particularly after she lost her mother at a young age. Instead, he wants her to connect with her mother's family and to discover more about her roots.

Arriving on the island full of grief and anger, Mia is surrounded by a family she doesn't know, and begins to learn more about both of her parents. While tracing their story on the island, she is swept off her feet by handsome local Salvatore. But with her complicated responsibilities back in Britain, can she really afford to fall in love?

I really enjoyed this read. I was expecting a full-on romance novel, and don't get me wrong - there is definitely an element of that. But the main themes actually revolved more around family, loss, grief and self discovery than just a simple 'boy meets girl' plotline. It was refreshing to have a strong, confident main character who cared about a lot more than just snaring the guy of her dreams.

I found myself absolutely racing through this book, and I finished it within a few hours. I loved the pacing; it was fast enough to keep me interested and engaged without skimping on any detail. I also really enjoyed the main character, Mia. I found her completely realistic and relatable: being somewhat of a 'difficult woman' myself I understood her anger, stubbornness, and frustration, and how this often translated into being somewhat abrupt with others.

I also really loved the supporting characters. Each of Mia's relatives were believable, fully-rounded people with their own backstories and struggles. This attention to detail is admirable; I can sometimes find that these types of characters are quite one-dimensional, whereas I grew to like and care about almost every name in this book. I have to say that the character development of Marjorie, Mia's stepmother, was a highlight for me. Learning how much these two had in common had me near to tears at points; it was a touching reminder that everyone is doing the best they can. In fact, the one person I wished I knew more about was Mia's best friend Savvy, who is the main character in the first book of this series, Cocktails and Dreams. I look forward to reading that and finding out more about her soon!

The writing in Prosecco and Promises is beautiful. A.L. Michael's manages to take the complicated, messy subject of grief and write about it so sensitively and gently that it is completely heart-breaking but also wonderfully life-affirming at the same time. While Mia does of course have times of feeling resentful at the hand she's been dealt, it was so pleasing to see her work through those feelings, take responsibility for her own actions, and learn from the whole journey. I think anyone who has experienced loss will identify with Mia and her healing process.

The setting of Ischia was a great choice. The island gave a sense of isolation from everything Mia was familiar with, but also allowed Mia the ability to really connect with her mother and experience what life would've been like for her. The inclusion of detail about the gorgeous Mediterranean weather, food and culture didn't hurt either!

The romance aspect of the book was very cute without being sickly. Salvatore is flawed and so much more human than the usual romantic heroes, which the book is all the better for. There were a few parts where I thought there could've been slightly more development: for instance, the time between Mia despising his rude, sulky behaviour to being won over by him seemed a little quick, but perhaps that's just me and my inability to let go of a grudge...! Overall, their relationship was perfectly played: driven by an unavoidable mutual attraction even though Mia's life was so chaotic and confused.

Mia's progression from feeling like she was completely alone to finding her roots was heartwarming, and was so enjoyable to read. Without spoiling too much, I have to say I absolutely loved the ending. Her growth as a person was clearly visible, and I adored that even when her relationship with Salvatore developed, she put herself, her dreams and her goals first. May we all be a little more like Mia: confident, headstrong women who chase our dreams, and learn the importance of even the unlikeliest of families.

Prosecco and Promises is moving, heart-warming, life-affirming and beautiful, and I would recommend this to anyone.

Whilst some of the plot points are rather predictable, I loved the Italian setting and the historic details. The reason for Mia's father sending her to Italy, and her reactions to this, gives the book much more depth than a typical chick lit book. I enjoyed it so much I've bought the first and third books in this series.

Prosecco and Promises is a romantic and heart warming tale that is an ideal beach read. A young woman sent to stay with her late mother's Italian relatives on the sundrenched island of Ischia whilst her father dies. Grieving for the father she adores she reconnects with her Italian family. A lovely novel with believable characters.

A really lovely read, great characters, great setting described really well, a lovely story not bogged down too much with the Romance side, a story about a young lady grieving and finding herself, her family and love

Sweet and heart warming, "Prosecco and Promises" is a perfect slice of escapism. A short and easy read, while there's nothing ground shattering about the story, you get swept up in the fortunes of Mia, a young woman whose Italian mother dies when she was little. Now her father is suffering from terminal cancer and he sends her to Italy to reconnect with her maternal family - and to spare her from seeing him in his final days.

Mia is likeable but complex, understandable and relatable, which makes you want to see her find her happy ever after and cope with her fast approaching status as orphan. If you enjoy light hearted romance and journeys of self discovery, you'll love this.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC with no obligation.

I liked the style of writing in this book. Very personal. Enjoyed the story line. More than a romantic story. I won't say any more in case it spoils the book for you.

I really enjoyed this book despite the fact that it is very sad.

Mia is a young 20 something who lost her mother when she was very young and was entirely raised by her dad. Her father has terminal cancer and tells Mia that he doesnt want her around when the end comes and so sends her to Naples, the birthplace of her mother and where her extended family live.

Mia doesnt want to go as she will spend the whole time waiting for the phone to ring to let her know its time to go home, so she sets out to try and make the most of her time on the island and goes in search of an old antiques shop she remembers from her childhood and she meets Salvatore, the very hostile and prickly grandson of the man she remembers and immediately hates him but offers to help him tidy up the shop she loved so that Sals grandfather can start makig money from the shop again.

On top of this we have Nikki and her boyfriend Enzo, plus Mia's aunt Allegra and her Nonna who point blank refuses to speak to her.

I very much enjoyed this book and would read others by the author.

Mia's widowed dad is dying and he sends her off to meet her maternal family in an island near Napoli. There she discovers her mum's childhood and her memories come back. Whilst in Italy she makes new friends, discovers new things about herself as well as making life changing decisions.
Great descriptions of Naples and it's historical past. I thought thisvwoyld be a predictable love story but I was pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting a frothy light read, but this book is made of stronger stuff!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was - although at times bittersweet (made me cry a bit as I remembered my own Dad's illness) - ultimately uplifting and optimistic. It brought home how easy it is to misread other people and form opinions of them that fit with our own narrative, instead of considering where they're coming from and what might be motivating them.

I hadn't read the previous book, but will definitely try to do so. I liked the characters, the prose style, and the storytelling.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for my honest review.

This is a story about love, loss, and family in it's various forms. It wasn't quite the light-hearted book I expected from the title, it actually has more depth than that, which I appreciated. That said, despite some very sad moments, there is a lot of humour also and of course love. The main character is well rounded and someone I could relate to. I haven't visited Italy but found the descriptions of the places, food and weather delightful. I haven't read the 1st book in the series but this is book can be enjoyed in its own right.

A fabulous read from beginning to end, couldn’t stop once I’d started. An amusing, light hearted holiday read that will leaving you hoping for more. The author writes with such humour and intrigue and has you question similarities you may have to the extremely vivid characters and wonderful story line.

Mia is forced to leave the life she knows behind her at the request of her dying father, to join the family that she barely knows in the warm climate of Italy.  That pretty much sums up the premise of this novel, but the story is so much more involved than that.  Mia is heartbroken when her father asks that she leaves him behind to die, and go to discover a whole side of her family that she has spent her entire life being distanced from.  After Mia's Italian mother passed away, she spent the following years in a little cocoon with her Dad in England, caring for each other in their grief.  However in the process Mia became distanced from her Italian family, and whilst staring at death, her father becomes fixated on her not being alone when he himself passes.

This is a novel about finding yourself in the face of grief.  That grief is so evident throughout this novel - how to deal with grief, how to move on when faced with it, and how to live your life after it.

Thankfully the novel is softened by backdrop of the beautiful Italian countryside, family drama as well as family love, and of course, a little romance.  So don't be put off the death and grief that runs through the novel - it really is made lighter by the family, scenery and love!

I do recommend this novel - it wasn't what I was expecting at all based on the cover and title but I certainly wasn't disappointed about that!  It's a novel about love, loss and finding yourself.  Go grab yourself a copy and let me know what you think.
