I thoroughly enjoyed this piece of escapism and my time out from a hectic world. The story grabs you from the outset and pulls you in and the storytelling really made it worth reading. Characterisation was on point and I know I will be looking out for new publications from this author or similar reads in the future. A recommended read.

If you like a good spiy book this is for you.

The story moves quickly and it feels like there's not time to take a breath, Aydin has alot to learn and wants to avenge his brother, he is number 13. Obviously its ot that simple and with MI5 involved you can always see a drama coming!

The characters in this story feel real, partially due to the current state of the world and the reporting we hear from the middle east - this is a brilliant start to a new series

Exciting terrorism conspiracy thriller with an MI6 agent chasing plotters with no help or belief from her superiors. One of the terrorists has been killed in a bombing in Syria and he believes it's been perpetrated by his cell and so the violent action begins. A race against time across Europe is thrillingly described and the tension rises until an explosive climax in Spain. Good run of the mill stuff!

Thank you to Netgalley for the arc of Sleeper 13 by Rob Sinclair.
I did enjoy this book, although I did find it a bit confusing at times. The last two hours of the book did get exciting and had me page turning fast to see what would happen.

A good intro thriller but not for me, unfortunately. Just a bit too unconventional and predictable. I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed, unfortunately.

I absolutely loved this book, the action is non-stop all the way through. There’s car chases, hand to hand combat, guns and more fighting. Considering the numerous terrorist attacks that happen around the world this book is very relevant with the kinds of things people are unfortunately quite used to watching on the news.

I’ve always wondered how much actually goes on that get’s stopped before us general public actually ever hear about it. From that perspective I found it really interesting reading along with Rachel’s character as she has to jump through red tape to get access to the information she needs to track down this terrorist organisation.

I’m so glad I already know there is a sequel to this book and I’m thrilled that I already have it on my shelf ready and waiting to go as this book is left off perfectly lined up for a second instalment. If you like fast paced action books with a hint of what could possibly be real life thrown in, then this book is one for you.

An action-packed and utterly gripping thriller from the bestselling author of The Enemy Series Rob Sinclair.

An extremely exciting read, right from the get-go. Loyalties are tested throughout and I was loathe to put it down.
Rob Sinclair's easy style of writing makes the plot run really smoothly but takes nothing away from the cleverness of it all. His research, too, must have been extensive.
I'd read (and loved) the 'Enemy' series so was looking forward to this one, which certainly doesn't disappoint.
The cliffhanger at the end, whilst tying up all the loose ends makes way for a well anticipated sequel.
I'll look forward to that.

This book is tipped as one of the greatest thriller releases for 2018 and I can totally understand why. A group Jihad soldiers, trained to stay hidden and prepare deathly attacks. Living lives that look normal on the outside while making their plans. It is happening for real and it scares a lot of people.
The guys in this book are clearly well trained and working with a certain truth. The truth they have learned during their training. Even Aydin, or Talatashar as he is known in his group, shares these views and does not show remorse about what they are supposed to do. His goal is to free himself from the group and he rules not much from the idea. This makes it hard to feel little sympathy for him even though he is on the run and helping the good guys.
On the other side is Rachel Cox and MI5 agent who has been collecting information on this cell for a long time. Just as much as me as a reader she is trying to look for humanity and redemption for Aydin. I cannot imagine though that with the way she works she is allowed to continue working for an intelligence service. She was the lighter side in the story filled with action though.

Please note that this book is not for me - I have read the book, and because i do not like to give negative reviews I will not review this book fully - there is no specific reason for not liking this book. I found it a struggle to read and did not enjoy trying to force myself to read this book.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

Sleeper 13 isn't the sort of book that I normally read but I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and always had something happening. It would make a great movie or TV series.

13 kids are smuggled to the Middle East to be trained and elite fighters. They don't all want to be there.. Sleeper 13 does not and tries to find a way out. When his twin sister is murdered he sets out to get revenge, and be free.

Thanks to Orion Publishing and NetGalley for my copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

I wanted to like Sleeper 13. I enjoy a decent thriller, and although I was unfamiliar with Rob Sinclair’s previous novels Sleeper 13 seemed to have promise.

Unfortunately, after a relatively strong opening the whole thing starts to fall apart, with both the plot and the characters in it becoming less and less engaging and plausible with every page. By the time it reaches its overwrought and downright unbelievable grand finale it had lost me.

Too many flashbacks clunkily inserted to give the narrative an unnecessarily ‘clever’ structure (oh, how I long for a return to clean, linear story-telling rather than this ‘Lost’ style jumping around). Too many supposedly smart characters behaving inexplicably stupidly. Lead characters whose plight never really fully engages. Too many clichés dressed up as original ideas and fooling nobody. Too many plot holes. Not enough wit or originality.

Only the fact that it cracks on at a pretty unrelenting pace saved it from losing me well before the end. Its packed with enough incident to stop you thinking too hard about how unlikely much of what unfolds truly is. However, pace by itself is not enough to compensate for all the book’s other failings, and as the ubiquitous ‘action packed ending’ unfolded I realised how little I was invested in the story’s outcome. I didn’t care whether Aydin, the eponymous Sleeper 13, gained his revenge, whether Cox got her man, or Wahid’s overly convoluted terrorist plot succeeded or was thwarted at the last minute. I certainly had no interested in picking up the inevitable sequel that the book sets up.

So unengaged was I that within days of finishing Sleeper 13 I was struggling to recall many details about the book. I had to look up the names of all the lead characters when writing this review and also double check how it all ended. A book that really grabbed me would never have left me with such hazy recollections.

This was my first Rob Sinclair book, and without a doubt, not my last! I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end, and enjoyed every minute of it.
Recommended.

This is not a book I would usually pick up, but I got intrigued by the blurb and tried it. It turned out to be a good instinct. Given it's subject matter, a Jihadi plot to bring down the main cities in Europe in a concentrated attack, and a rogue sleeper agent, it is a timely novel and is set so recently that anyone will be easily able to situate the context of the novel. Overall it is a fast paced novel that offers an interesting perspective on the recruitment (or lack thereof) of Jihadi suicide bombers and assassins. It exposes the emanating techniques and training methods (obviously difficult to verify) while also pinpointing the boundaries of the western powers and how these are transgressed in a looming crisis. The main two characters are well developed and offer a good story line, and I for one will eagerly await the sequel.

Wow give me a minute to catch my breath! What a thrilling, engrossing, action packed and scary read Sleeper 13 was.

This book seemed so real to me, I felt that all the action in the book could actually happen. The use of ‘the farm’ to train young children was really scary and quite a brutal method for such young kids. Even though I knew what they were being trained for I still felt very sorry for them as you could almost feel their fear of their teacher at times.

The story is told from the point of view of both Rachel, a M15 agent and Aydin or Sleeper 13. Rachel was a brilliant character who is obviously very good at her job and takes no nonsense from anyone, least of all her colleagues. I couldn’t believe that they didn’t believe her, especially given the increase in terrorism they are meant to be seeing! Her determination to push on and try and find out more about the terrorist group and their supposed plot was fantastic to read about and I really admired her drive. The two story lines helped give the reader a more holistic view of the story and I thought it turned into a bit of a cat and mouse came as events escalate and the two characters draw closer to each other.

This is a superbly plotted book with lots of action happening in many different countries which definetly kept my interest. There are a few slightly disturbing and gory bits which won’t be to everyone’s taste but is obviously, sadly, part of terrorism.

This is a fantastic start to a new series and I can’t wait to read the next installment! If you like thrilling, action packed and realistic thrillers then you need to read this book!

Huge thanks to Poppy Stimpson and Orion for my copy of this book and for inviting me onto the blog tour.

When it comes reading action thrillers, I have a few criteria that the story needs to meet. Firstly, the plot has to capture and hold my attention. A well-judged sense of pace is also key, and if the story manages to pull off a cinematic feel, so much the better. Rob Sinclair’s latest novel, Sleeper 13, ticks all these boxes and then some.

At its heart, Sleeper 13 has a fascinating premise. The central protagonist has been trained for years as a terrorist, and it is what makes the character of Aydin a cut above your standard action hero. There is a very specific event that makes him question everything he has learned, a split-second that changes his entire life and sets Aydin off on a path in direct opposition to his former masters. The internal conflict that constantly rages within this young man ensures his actions and reactions are genuinely unpredictable. Years of brainwashing and intense indoctrination have left their mark, but he has come to realise that nothing is quite so cut and dried as his teachers would have him believe. He has come to understand that when there are ideological differences, things do not need to end in terrorist attacks. There are twelve other men just like Adyin, all important elements in the same plan. Our reluctant hero has no choice but to track them down and stop them.

Aydin is not the only one trying to uncover the conspiracy of the Thirteen. A British agent, Rachel Fox, has learned of their existence and is desperately trying to stop these insurgents from attempting any form of action. Initially she is alone in thinking that the Thirteen even exist. Some consider this shadowy group little more than an urban myth, but Rachel’s dogged determination and willingness to bend the odd rule or two pays dividends.

Both characters are heading towards the same objective but from different directions. Rachel uses her analytical skill as an investigator while Aydin is more of a blunt instrument. That said, as the narrative continues to unfold, it becomes more and more evident that these two are more alike than they first appear.

The plot has an international feel as the action moves throughout the Middle East and Europe. Aydin and Rachel are both trying to piece together the nature of the terrorist plan that is developing. I’m firmly of the opinion that a good action thriller needs to feel like a race against time, and Sleeper 13 achieves this by continually cranking up the tension. The final chapters are particularly effective.

Sleeper 13 is a solidly entertaining action thriller that manages to be both engrossing and heart-stopping in equal measure. This is exactly the sort of novel I like to read when I am travelling. You can easily lose yourself in all the twists and turns as miles fly by. This is the first book I’ve read by Rob Sinclair, but I don’t imagine for a second that it will be the last. I’m sure action thriller fans are going to relish every page.

For those of you who aren’t regular readers of The Eloquent Page, I should explain that I like to round off my reviews by recommending some musical accompaniments to listen to whilst reading the book under consideration. In this instance, I was looking for something that adequately captured the tension and action that features throughout Sleeper 13. After much pondering, I decided to go with the soundtrack to Jason Bourne by John Powell and David Buckley. Trust me, it fits.

Sleeper 13 is published by Orion and is available now. Fugitive 13 is set to follow next year.

This was gripping novel, full of action and scarily believable. I loved that it was told from different character perspectives and I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

Rob Sinclair has written an intense, action packed, adrenaline fuelled violent thriller on the relevant contemporary issue of global terrorism. A young 9 year old boy, Aydin Torkal, is abducted by his father and placed in The Farm, a jihadi training camp in Afghanistan run by The Teacher. He is trained with 12 other boys to become a ruthless, elite insurgent human weapon, subject to trauma and torture. The boys have no contact with their families, are brainwashed, have no identity, known only by a number, Aydin is number 13. Aydin, however, unlike the other boys is not a believer. After learning of his twin sister, Nilay's murder, Aydin's rage leads him to kill and presents him with an opportunity to escape, looking for revenge on those responsible for him becoming a ruthless, cold blooded, human killing machine.

MI5 agent, Rachel Cox, has been collating intel on this elite group of killers, coming across Nilay who was asking questions about her brother before she was killed. Rachel has worries that plans are afoot that involve mass attacks in numerous locations in Europe as she tries to locate the 13 members of the jihadi group. With Aydin being pursued by his terrorist group and MI5, will Aydin and Rachel manage to prevent these harrowing atrocities? This is a fast paced, and brutal read, with huge twists with a compelling storyline and short chapters that keep you completely hooked from beginning to end. Sinclair has written a fantastic gutwrenching thriller of our times with brilliant characterisation, which I recommend highly. Many thanks to Orion for an ARC.
