This book has a great storyline but it does occasionally get lost in the brand names / band names / famous names that keep getting dropped all over the place. Liberally. Like confetti.
The characters are great, the story moves along and each woman has a chapter or so to herself and then switches which I like, it’s also very very current, very now so I feel will date quickly. All in all I quite enjoyed it but I would have enjoyed it so very much more without the name dropping. It feels a little like it’s trying too hard and it really doesn’t need to

Weisberger is one of my go-to writers when I need something switch-off and fun: she manages to do glitz and girly without being schmaltzy and silly, and her writing can be smart and clear-eyed. Here she's especially satirical about competitive wives in the suburbs of NY, complete with their 'designer vaginas'. Luckily, sassy, sarcastic Emily (from [book:The Devil Wears Prada|5139]) is on hand to add a welcome note of snark. Perfect for beach or bath.

Oops! Lauren Weisberger's The Wives popped up in my inbox from netgalley and in my anxiety not to miss it I neglected to check if it was my type of thing. Definitely not! My thing is crime and mystery this is chick lit (with some strong language, as it turns out). I thought I'd give it a go having downloaded it. Serious mistake! I was hooked. There was a mystery and a bit of detection and it was a really easy read.
Emily Charlton from The Devil Wears Prada makes a reappearance as an image consultant with a career on the skids. Karolina Hartwell, former supermodel now senator's wife, arrested for DUI, is the client of a lifetime. Miriam, the third of the titular wives, is now a homemaker but her legal training together with Emily's pr skills make them a formidable team in their bid to vindicate their friend.
Couldn't put it down. Would I recommend it? Of course not, it's not my type of book ...

The Wives by Lauren Weisberger is an absolute hoot. Reading it made for a fun afternoon. It features the adventures of Emily from The Devil Wears Prada, and her friends Miriam and Karolina. One of them has terrible man trouble, and so they join forces to take him down. It features a delicious cameo from Miranda Priestly. What's not to like? Four stars.

Chicklit is not usually my go to genre for reading, however, I was delighted to be offered an e-arc of The Wives for review. It is the third book in the series, the first being the more well known, The Devil Wears Prada. However, you do not have to have read the previous books to enjoy The Wives. It follows three friends, Emily, Miriam and Karolina. Emily is now a "fixer" for the problems of well known celebs, Miriam is a stay at home mom after many years of being a workaholic lawyer, and Karolina, a former supermodel who is now married to a senator that is thinking of running for presidency at some time in the future. Throughout the book they support each other through various traumas and tears.
This book is a light and quick read. It is witty at times, and a perfect holiday read. I enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley, to Harper Collins and to Ms. Weisberger for the opportunity to read The Wives in exchange for an honest review.
