Really fun read for summer. Marriages, neighbourhoods, gossip, friendships, lies. Lots of themes in one book in an entertaining story.
I'd recommend if you're looking for a light pool side book that'll take you to another world.

Thanks a lot Netgalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Wives is an absolute joy - a triumph of acerbic observation with tender moments of vulnerability. Dare I say it? It may well be Lauren Weisberger’s best one yet...

I have read most of Lauren Weisberger's books and this delivers what I have come to expect from her - a quick and easy read, but great fun and with enough punch to stop it being overly fluffy "chick-lit".

Emily Charlton, first introduced in The Devil Wears Prada, is now an image consultant. The story is told in alternating points of view between her, her friend Miriam, an attorney turned stay at home mum, and Karolina, a former model and now wife of a senator who finds herself in trouble. Their friendship and interwoven stories make for an entertaining read, at times laugh out loud and at other times quite touching. The characters are well drawn and Emily continues to entertain.

If you are looking for an easy summer read pick this one up and enjoy!

I hadn’t realised that this was a continuation of the lives of characters met in earlier books but not having read those books did not spoil my enjoyment of this book. The main characters were likeable and you wished them all well but oh my goodness I am glad I don’t live in this neighbourhood.
The book flowed well and I enjoyed it although there were many many references that passed me by not being American or knowing much about Greenwich.

A really enjoyable easy to read book. The characters in the book are really interesting, particularly the lead character Emily an image consultant, who suddenly starts to lose clients only to gain a new client Karolina a former face of L’oreal and wife of an elected senator. Karolina’s life takes an unexpected turn when she is wrongly accused of driving under the influence with suspicions that her husband has used his influence to get the police to charge her. There are plenty of twists and turns and as I say it’s easy reading.

I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Though I had seen the film "The Devil Wears Prada", I had not read the book, so didn’t know what to expect from this, by the same author.

Like many novels written today, each chapter follows the point of view of a different character in rotation, so that you get to know each of them as real people. These are mainly the all-powerful, ultra-rich women (the cast of "Hamilton" is hired for a party!) who could only be American. They are so convincing and their lives so expertly dissected that you feel the author must be part of their species. I wouldn’t know.

The prose, mainly dialogue, is written in a fresh, witty and deceptively simple style, and is easy to read. But this apparent simplicity is only a sleek veneer to hide the mechanics of a very skilful author, an author who knows precisely how to tell an amusing, and at the same time dramatic and intriguing, story and move it along apace.

Each woman is well-drawn and comes across as an individual. Though they and their dilemmas are often played for comedic effect, I had sympathy for them throughout and admiration too. For all their cartoon grotesqueness (compared with most woman’s lives!), such confident and powerful women do exist, and I enjoyed spending time in their company.

My verdict? If this subject matter appeals, then change into your Gucci cossie, sip a flute of champagne, and plunge into their heart-shaped pool. Enjoy.

Having read some of Lauren Weisbergers previous books, I was thrilled to be able to advance read this and I wasn't disappointed. I absolutely loved this

Although this is a follow on, this book stands alone well.

This book is ridiculous, fun and OTT but then again so is Emily - the much loved character from The Devil Wears Prada. It was great to read what she had been up to and where she was now.

An ideal summer read for fans of TDWP and new fans to this “world”. Whilst I loved the touches to previous books you don’t need to have read them to enjoy this sassy book.

4 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley, Lauren Weisberger and Harper Collins for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Having enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada as a book, I looked forward to reading this by the same author. I hadn't registered it was a sequel, but it stood alone well too so it's not necessary to have read its predecessor.
Lauren gets straight into things in her books and in no time I found I was hooked and being pulled along by the main story here.
The book focuses on relationships, on men who cheat, on men who leave their wives, on men with ambition who stand on anything or anybody in their path. It focuses on them though from their wives and women's point of view.
Emily is back and taking no prisoners. Karolina's husband has dumped her in the cruellest way and Emily takes up her cause. Miriam is trying to cope with being a stay at home mum. The three work and play together and the book romps along through their friendship as they work together to prove Karolina's case, rebuild her reputation and regain her son. A few surprises along the way, and Miranda puts in a reappearance too. I think there will probably be a next instalment, which I look forward to.
Definitely a good read

You may remember Lauren Weisberger for her hit novel The Devil Wears Prada. Her iconic anti-heroine Miranda Priestly became world famous after it was turned into a movie in 2006. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone novel. I do recommend seeking out the other books though - as always far superior to the movie adaptation.

Some time later Runway survivor Emily is now a notorious "Fixer". Sorting out the situations that her celebrity clients find themselves in. Living in LA with husband Miles has left her feeling a little out of the loop. When she starts losing clients to an up and coming "face" it is a real blow to Emily's ego.

Miriam Kagan vowed to never leave the city. Three kids later she and husband Paul find themselves relocated to the suburbs. To Greenwich. Miriam is convinced that husband Paul is up to something and is determined to find out what - or who - it is.

Karolina Hartwell is arrested for drink driving when she is taking her son's friends home. The headlines aren't telling the full story and Karolina is adamant that it is all a mistake. Husband Gordon isn't going to allow it to diminish his political ambitions and he swiftly takes a step back from it and from Karolina.

The Wives is a fun romp through the lives of the over privileged stay at home moms of Connecticut. Working out daily in their lululemon leggings and drinking away the day until it is time to pick up the kids from school. Like all Lauren's books it has great characters and there is a lot to laugh at. The perfect holiday read this summer.

For the chapter titles alone this book deserves 5 stars! I loved it. The chapters were short and witty, and the narrative moved seemlessly between the three main characters. It was a very enjoyable read filled with scandal, revenge and humour. In particular some of Miriam's encounters with the other mums and their "custom fit" procedures were hilarious! All three characters were likeable, strong, successful women - although I have to say I think my favourite was Emily purely because of her complete distain for the suburbs! I'd highly recommend this as an entertaining summer read.

Thankyou to netgalley and harper collins for my copy in exchange for my honest review

A great book which I really enjoyed reading.
Loved how the stories interlock, with loads of deception, lies and revenge thrown in as well.
Great holiday read, would definitely recommend.

This isn’t the normal book I would usually choose but I actually really enjoyed it. It’s follows a year in the life of three friends, Emily, Karolina and Miriam. Karolina gets a false DUI charge and the three friends get involved in trying to get her off the charge. But there are lots of ups and downs along the way.
It really kept me hooked, wanting to find out the ending and with all the secrecy and lies, which is the theme of the book, it was really captivating. And the Devil Wears Pravda theme comes back with Miranda Priestly making an appearance but it doesn’t overtake the story in anyway. Highly recommended

Thank you to netgalley and Harper Collins for the ARC.

Now I must admit, I've never actually read Devil Wears Prada so knowing it was the 3rd follow on kind of unnerved me in the sense I wasnt sure if I'd 'get it' BUT I absolutely loved this book.

A total easy read, perfect poolside/holiday book (even though I wasnt on holiday haha). Fantastically written, brilliant characters, funny and lighthearted.

I loved how the book was written in the three characters perspectives. Each character is strong singularly but even stronger as a trio.

A hook of struggle, anguish, fun, friendship and laughter.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Karolina Hartwell is the wife to Senator Graham Hartwell and honestly believes her life couldn’t be more perfect. She has a loving husband, an amazing stepson and isn’t worried about money thanks to her years as the face of L’Oreal. However, one night manages to change that all.

When driving her son home Karolina is arrested for driving under the influence even though she’s completely innocent. Her life shortly comes crashing when the headlines grab the story and her husband sends her away to their house in Connecticut, showing no compassion or sympathy for her.

Miriam Kagan has recently left her days of being a high-powered lawyer in the past and now is a full- time mother to her three children. Struggling with balancing motherhood, her weight, making new found friendships with the other mothers in town and worrying that her husband is having an affair, she reaches out to her old friend Karolina not believing what she hears on the news and wanting to offer her support, even if that does come in the form of feisty Emily Charlton.

Emily is new to Greenwich and while she’s only here for a few days (or weeks, she can’t decide), she absolutely hates it. She’s losing clients, her husband is constantly travelling and constantly avoiding her former boss who is willing to re-hire her. When she hears of Karolina’s troubles, she’s quick to jump in because sometimes it takes an outside to draw out all the lies that small towns are built on.

I was about halfway through this book when I realised that it is the third book in the Devil Wears Prada series, however, this book reads fantastically as a stand-alone. It’s an empowering story that focuses on female friendships, body issues and cheating while still having that light-hearted tone.

The story is told from each of the girls perspective, given you an insight on each of their lives and how each of them is quick to ignore their own problems to help out the others. I absolutely loved Emily’s bluntness, Miriam’s kindness and Karolina’s big heart. These girls were perfect and so was the story.

Whilst I had no idea what kind of book, I was going to I was pleasantly happy that I requested it. It showed how important women empowerment is and how bad the subject of body image is for women. This book discussed women having surgeries just to keep their husband interested in them because otherwise they’ll go elsewhere. The media has given women such a warped sense of what is beautiful that people are willing to pay to change who they are.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book, it was a light-hearted and interesting read. Lauren Weisberger has a fantastic way of world building which makes me want to go out and pick up more of her works! I defiantly recommend giving this book a go!

This is not my usual genre so I didn’t find it as gripping and interesting as my normal murder and blood filled reads but it was light, funny and easy to read would make a good holiday read.

I never read The Devil Wears Prada but it is one of my favourite films so when I noticed that The Wives features Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestly’s former first assistant, I was really interested to see what it would be like. First off I have to say that I had a lot of fun reading The Wives, there is something I find so fascinating about scandal in the suburbs plus I love books where women fight for and support one another. Weisberger has an undeniable wit and clever sharpness to her writing which makes for such a satisfying read. I loved all three of the women this books revolves around. Karolina is genuine and loving, Miriam is so relatable and intelligent and Emily herself is admittedly catty and biting but also funny and loyal. The strength of The Wives lies in the friendship between these women and the dialogue between them is perfectly on point.

Saying all that, I did have an issue with this book. I realise it is supposed to be lighthearted and full of scandal/drama which was great but there is also a relatively constant level of fat-phobia here. There seems to be a general consensus in The Wives that thin = good, beautiful and ‘right’ and fat = lazy and grotesque. I hate that attitude and I have to be honest and say that the opinion demonstrated in this book that you must be thin to be worthy is one I find damaging and superficial. I don’t want to get all preachy or overanalyse it too much, nor do I want to put anyone off reading it, but I mention it purely because it really was on my mind quite a lot whilst reading.

Despite that one issue, I still definitely recommend the book! I really did find it a fun and feisty read full of juicy secrets and some great female friendships. I will certainly be reading the next instalment if Weisberger writes it because yes, Emily is probably not the most moral or sensitive character in the world, but honestly that just makes her all the more fun to read about!

This book was such a refreshing change! I loved the Devil Wears Prada and was really excited to hear what Emily had been up to. I found this book really easy to read - a real page turner. I loved the description and humour of the different women in the book. The plot was brilliant with plenty of lies and deception which kept me on the edge of my seat. I really hope this is turned into a film like the Devil Wears Prada as I think it would work really well on the screen. I can completely see Emily Blunt acting out some of the scenes from the book.I would definitely recommend to my book groups and friends and family.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
