Devil Wears Prada meets Ab Fab! Hilarious book that kept me smiling to the end. Good easy escapism for a summer read.

Coming to this straight from a re-read of The Devil Wears Prada, I had high hopes, only to see them dashed by this incredibly thin, dialled-in follow-up which sees Emily Charlton, post- Vogue, working freelance as an 'image consultant''. (NOT a career move I would ever imagine the Vogue -and magazine- obsessed Emily ever moving into.

There's little character development, more a character regression as Emily's character becomes ever more thinly stretched as the story labours to its close. I struggled to finish it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 fun stars

This is a book that you can read in a day while on holiday sitting by the pool.

Simple writing, simple characters, light hearted. It does start a bit slow and it does feel like a book written to be a movie however I enjoyed it.

Having seen the The Devil Wears Prada on the big screen (sadly not read the book), I was familiar with Emily Charleton, Miranda Priestly’s assistant, and The Wives (or as it’s known in America, ‘When Life Gives You Lululemons‘ is the story of Emily post Miranda. The story follows 3 friends, Emily Charleton (image consultant), Karolina Hartwell (ex super model and wife to possibly the next president), and Miriam Kagon (ex law partner and full time Mum), all of whom are dealing with their own crises. They come together as fantastic friends and a formidable team to oversea and help each other. I loved all their personalities, you couldn’t get 3 more different women, yet together they work so well. Fantastic writing in multiple POV, I was laughing, I was sympathising, I actually wanted to climb in the book and help these ladies. I felt their pain and their laughter. A wonderful read that will stay with me for a long time to come. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This novel of this author's did not work for me (this time). The contexts which worked before for the people straining for significance in the shallow world of fashion undermined real characterisation - it felt contrived to me. I bet next one in what appears to be linked novels will be better ...

As a big fan of The Devil Wears Prada, having read that book several times over (and having watched the film multiple times) I was really keen to read a book from the perspective of the other assistant in that book - Emily. She was bitchy, bright and bold so a perfect character to use as the protagonist here.

The Wives is a fun, frothy book that makes for an easy summer beach read - celebrity name-dropping, gorgeous apartments (and people), an unfair situation to solve, female friendships, issues with pregnancy and children.

If I were new to this author, I think I would love the book all the more. I'm not sure if it's that my taste in books has evolved since I read the first book or whether it's that there's less of the appallingly wonderful Miranda in The Wives to help drive things, but I'd take a star off here (just the one!) because I was expecting to love it as much as I'd loved Weisberger's first.

I also really loved the alternative US title given - When Life Gives you Lululemons and think it's really clever. I'm sure there was a very good reason for changing it, but just wanted to note: I'd be happy buying it under the original title.

Many thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction and Lauren Weisberger for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read a number of Lauren Weisbergers books and they never disappoint. Absolutely perfect beach/holiday read. I read it in one sitting whilst on holiday and it made me laugh out loud (so much so I got some funny looks). Cant wait for the next book.

Lauren Weisberger is one of these authors I always like to read, no matter what she writes. I love her writing and her characters. Two years ago, she managed to make me interested in tennis with her book The Singles Game and now she is back with one of my favorite characters from her novels. When I was reading The Devils Wears Prada and Revenge Wears Prada my favourite character wasn’t Andy, the protagonist, but Miranda Priestly’s other assistant, Emily Charlton. I enjoyed her determination and her fierceness and I am really happy the author wrote a book focusing on her.

No more calls in the middle of the night, no more demanding, unclear, and crazy requests. No more Miranda Priestly and Runway. And no more New York because Emily and her husband Miles have moved to sunny Los Angeles. Now Emily is a celebrity consultant but she is losing her clients to the younger competition. She is still though and sassy as usual, but also caring (even if she tries to not show it too much). After she flies to New York for a consultation and she is fired before she is even hired, Emily decides to spends a few weeks in Greenwich, Connecticut, with her friend Miriam.

Miriam and Emily met in college. Miriam was a successful lawyer, but after leaving her job, having three children, her husband selling his start-up, and the family moving from Manhattan to Greenwich, Miriam starts to doubt her decisions, her marriage, and her life in general.

At 37, Karolina is still a beautiful woman. A former model and the wife of a senator rumored to be the next president, Karolina’s life focuses on her son. Her life turns upside down when she is arrested for a DUI and her husband divorces her and banishes her to Greenwich. She knows she’s been set up and she is ready to do anything to clear her name and get her son back.

Between baby showers and sex toys parties, these three women will rely on each other to get what they want. I loved reading about their friendship and how they support each other. These three women are completely different from each other and yet their friendship is true and loyal.

Full of hilarity, unexpected moments, and engaging and likabeble characters, THE WIVES is a riveting novel about strong female friendship and women empowerment. If you liked The Devil Wears Prada, you are going to really love this novel. It is the perfect summer read to enjoy by the poolside (if you can) and I’d like to thank Harper Fiction for providing me with an early copy of this brilliant novel.

This book is the perfect summer read. A fun , lighthearted delightful book. Starring one of the favourite characters from the devil wears Prada ex assistant Emily Charlton this book takes us from the catwalk to the suburbs and explores how life changes with age and motherhood.

Emily is now working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars but she is slowly losing her grip in the industry. She goes to stay with her oldest friend Miriam in the suburbs where she is introduced to Karolina Hartwell, a famous supermodel who is in need of help. Karolinas reputation and family are in jeopardy and Emily may be the answer to her problems.

This is a story of friendship and how woman supporting each other is powerful. A totally wonderful well observed book , I loved it!! I am an all time fan Of The devil wears Prada and Lauren has continued her fantastic writing with this page turning book.

I felt this was a little young for me as I wasn’t that interested in the celebs mentioned or the glitzy world felt this more suited to the Kardashian generation can see its appeal though

This is a super fun, laid back book that everyone should read for a bit of escapsim. Even if you've only watched The Devil Wears Prada as a film you'll instantly recognise the wonderful character of Emily and her sassy, go-get attitude.

The woman this book focuses on three women about are roughly my age, but I am much more of an Emily than I am a Miram or Karolina and at times I found it hard to relate. But that's much more me being in my bubble than the book itself. There were genuine laugh out loud moments, and really tender moments too.

Was the book predicatble? Yes. Was it an easy read? Definitely. Would I recommend it for a beach read? Absolutely.

Girl power, and all that!

I loved this book! A really enjoyable, entertaining read (compared to my usual Murder/Thriller reads!). Ps. I read this not realising that it was the author who wrote The Devil Wears Prada!

When Karolina is accused of drink driving with her stepson and friends in her car, her senator husband quickly distances himself from her as she becomes a social pariah. Old friend Miriam and acquaintance Emily step I. To help her get her life back on track and try to be allowed to soend time with her stepson Harry.

Living in rural Derbyshire, the lives of these women could not be further from mine if they tried yet I was totally hooked. Funny and shocking in equal measures I was drawn in to this highly entertaining book. Would I like to live their lives? No. Would I like their clothes, handbag and shoe allowance? Oh yes!

This really isn't my genre but I fancied something fun and relaxing as a change and this turned out to be a quick and easy read that didn't tax my brain. I find that sometimes it works well to give a different genre a go even if you find you cannot wait to return to your usual type of book.

"The Wives" is perfect for the beach or a summer holiday. I found it wasn't too twee that I couldn't bear it unlike some chick lit. All in all, an amusing and glitzy experience from the bestselling author of "The Devil Wears Prada."

Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

A nice easy read with a couple of different story threads running through. The characters are very likeable to all.

Wow, this was a very pleasant surprise! I was offered this book to review and, although I was in two minds about whether it was my sort of book or not, I decided to give it a go. And it was just so good - I can't believe I nearly gave it a miss! Definitely one of those page-turning books, just one more page to see what's going to happen next. I was reading a couple of pages any time I had a spare minute!

It starts off setting up the story with the three main female characters, Emily (celebrity 'fixer' who sorts out disasters that 'stars' get themselves into/married to Miles), Miriam (former high flyer, recently moved from New York, now a stay at home Mum with 3 children living in the suburbs/married to Paul) and Kristina (ex-supermodel, step-mum to 12 year old Harry since he was 2 years old, married to Graham, a Senator/wannabe President). Miriam is friends with both Emily and Kristina. She's known Kristina since they were very young, but Emily initially didn't really know Kristina that well.

There were some very funny moments, it's like a completely different world in some parts of the country the things these women with too much money and time on their hands were getting up to or various surgeries they were getting done to themselves. Quite jaw-dropping!

I really liked all the main characters, even though they were so different from one another - Emily was definitely a bitchy, take charge character, but in a way that made you still really like her character. Miriam was floundering a bit in her new world after stopping work to look after her children, but found her own way eventually, and Kristina finally got her revenge. Kristina was the one who was really hard done by through no fault of her own (her lying, cheating husband's total fault) and the one you really wanted to come through the whole messy situation on top. It was extremely satisfying that she eventually got there.

I haven't read any of the Devil Wears Prada series (supposedly this is book 3 and is also called 'When Life Gives You Lululemons' - one of my pet hates I must admit when a book is called two different names in different countries - why?!!), or even seem the film (am I allowed to admit that?!), even though I vaugely know what it's about, but it didn't make any difference to me reading this book and it is a stand-alone if you want to read it without having read the others. And I would most definitely recommend reading it! I loved it - and there was a lovely ending too. I'm only sorry it's finished now. Very, very entertaining.

This is quite an addictive read. Very light and easy to read about privileged American women who have to be one up on everyone else. Very funny in parts and the characters one warms to despite being quite outrageous. The baby shower for a fourth baby, called a sip and see, taking place after the birth, is brilliant, not a baby to be seen. I was a bit doubtful how I would get on with it as I'd not read the previous two novels but I didn't feel as though I'd missed anything. A bit of a light hearted yarn.

Another good novel from Lauren which I enjoyed, although I must admit I found it a bit boring to start with. It follows the lives of three women and how they eventually all pull together.
