I'm a huge fan of all of Lindsey Kelk 's books and I must say I'm pretty sure this is my favourite one yet! I do say this after I've read every one of them but I really mean it this time!

This is such a funny, romantic and very 'now' story that will leave you wanting more! I'm already waiting hard for Lindsey's next book!

Loved this book! I'm a big Lindsey Kelk fan anyway and this book is a great addition to her collection.
Loveable characters, very chick lit and very gripping.
Highly recommend!

This was the first novel by Lindsey Kelk that I have read. And I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt that I needed a break from reading thrillers and this novel offered exactly what I was after. It was funny, light-hearted and optimistic. I actually felt sorry when I finished reading. I might check out the author's other novels in future. This was certainly encouraging.

This book for me was to slow to get me engaged, so gave up after 3 chapters. This is my personal negativity.

A month to turn a nobody into a social media superstar - what could go wrong? What if that nobody turns out to be a rather quirky historian, private and reserved? What if your business may go under if stardom is not reached?

One in a Million is an easy-read modern romance which could probably be classified as chick lit but with a bit more substance. Slow going at first, the novel soon picks up, becoming a light-hearted page turner. The central characters are well developed if a little stereotyped and one is easily able to their situation.

For me, the cherry on the cake was the life lesson - the journey of discovery that the characters embarked upon without ever really realising that they had. Food for thought for the reader.

A perfect beach read for the holidays!

With thanks to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the advance copy.

Way back in the distant mists of 2009 I picked up a book by an unknown author and took it on holiday with me. "I Heart New York" was the first of many books by Lindsey Kelk and I've been sharing my summers with her ever since. Kelk has always had a rare ability to make you feel like you've stepped inside the book and that you're best friends with all of the characters. I'm pleased to say that this hasn't changed with this one off story.

Annie works in Social Media Marketing. She set up a business with her best friend Miranda and things have been a little difficult. They have more work than they can reasonably cope with but NO-ONE pays their bills and it is getting harder to make end meet. Plus to top it off her ex-boyfriend has just proposed to his new woman in front of millions of people at a televised football game. Things are not going well.

When landlord Martin and hotshot Charlie from down the hall bet her that she can't turn a complete stranger into an internet sensation Annie's competitive spirit kicks in. Twenty thousand Instagram followers in a month? No problem. Except the first person who walks through the door is Dr Samuel Page, a crusty historian who looks a bit like a homeless man. Annie really has her work cut out to win this bet...

If you are looking for a great summer read by the pool then you won't go wrong with this book. Engaging characters and a real sense of place make you want to work at Content with them! Annie is such a kickass character that it would be a shame if she doesn't pop up again.

Supplied by Net Galley and Harper Collins in exchange for an honest review.

Lots of quirky, real observations and written with lovely humour! Annie has a lot going for her. She is well-liked, smart, funny, ambitious and has no time for a love life. She co-owns a digital marketing company with her bestie, Miranda, who has the hots for her landlord. Being fiercely competitive, Annie takes on an outrageous bet to create a social media success of the next person who walks through the door...who turns out to be lanky Sam, a man in desperate need for a makeover. Against his will, Annie makes it her mission to take him under her wing and help him win his girlfriend back.
While overall predictable, the story builds nicely with some unexpected developments and some crazy characters. The writer is naturally funny so it doesn't feel forced or pretentious. She notices quirky characteristics which makes the characters very relateable. I really enjoyed the frolicking fun of this book and the romantic build-up.

Loved this book! The characters were just amazing and so relatable! Brought right up to date with the use of social media and all the different platforms.

I had a huge soft spot for Sam and his socially awkward behaviour, Annie was just amazing and I was totally rooting for her at the end!.

Great light hearted, happy summer read!

When I was younger I used to steal my mums Marian Keyes and Jill Mansell books to read, even though a lot of the references went over my head. I loved the stories and the romance and the feeling after you'd turned the last page that you'd made good friends within the pages of the book.

"One in a Million" is the first book I've ever read that gave me these exact feelings but also was aimed at my age group and actually referenced things I understood. Oh, the joy I felt when I read the words "Just 17".

Aside from mentioning magazines I obsessed over as a teenager, the whole plot felt really relevant to my life. I could imagine being friends with Annie and Miranda and it was easy to understand their lives and priorities and motivations.

The plot itself was really original and although it wasn't hard to imagine how the story would end (who reads a romance hoping for a sad ending?!) I was captivated until the end and had to stifle some ugly happy sobs for fear of bewildering my toddler.

I couldn't put this book down and it's left me with such a warm and fuzzy feeling in my heart.

Never one to dodge a challenge, digital marketer Annie is tasked with transforming the next person to walk through the door into an Instagram success with more than 20.000 followers. Historian Dr Page wants only to finish writing his book in peace and quiet. As the challenge proceeds is Annie too busy challenging herself to see that true happiness is within her reach?
This is a light modern read with a strong feminist base. I loved the characters and the transformation. A modern day Pygmalion!

I have loved all Lindsey Kelk books in the past so I was excited to read this one. I wasn’t disappointed I loved it also.
A great story line, that actually made me think about social media and how much I use it and what’s good and bad about it.
Easy going story, pure escapism. Made me smile. I loved Samuel and whilst I kind of expected some of the story I didn’t mind I just wanted to be right.
A perfect holiday read.

4 - "I happen to think you’re fairly close to perfect." Stars!

It’s been a looooong time since I read a book by this author, I didn’t realize just how much so until I checked my ‘Read’ shelf. But like in life, it’s amazing how the years in Booklandia fly by and the amount of books released by said writer pile up before you get back to reading their words again.

"I’ve got this."

I’ll admit the blurb for One in A Million was what drew me in initially because I love a good nerd to cool-nerd transformation/opposites attract love story like most people do, and Dr Samuel Page starts out more Stig-of-the-historian-dump, than Historian-hottie when we meet him, something Annie Higgins plans to change when she agrees to a thirty-day bet to gain the attention shy guy twenty thousand followers on a social media platform.

"Whats in this for you..?"

Something Sam is really not interested in being involved in initially, but when Annie learns his girlfriend has dumped him mainly for being emotionally absent, more interested in his work, and his lack of social graces, grooming and personal style, she makes him a deal. Boyfriend Bootcamp gives her the chance to smarten him up, and make him ‘social-media appropriate’ and in exchange for that she gives him tips and pointers that may encourage his girlfriend to change her mind.

Maybe there was hope after all…

This isn’t a quick book, I’ll be honest and say the first 35% or so dragged a little, but there were enough entertaining scenarios to keep me reading, but push past the slow warm up and it was full steam ahead after that, I literally laughed until I cried at certain points, and although it’s pretty clear as to the direction in which the story will eventually go between this pair, there were some hugely amusing interludes along the way.

A month ago I hadn’t even known that he existed and now I couldn’t imagine a day without him in it.

The story is told solely from Annie’s perspective and I think at certain points it would have benefitted from Sam’s POV as well, it was certainly long enough to mix up the story-telling aspect of it a bit. There was also a plethora of likeable secondary characters in the mix and they all added to the enjoyment with their own unique and quirky personality traits as well.

"You managed without me for a long time… You’ll manage without me again."

Enjoyable, funny, sweet, with low-level romance and drama, I find my reading tastes veering more into Chick-Lit lately, and when I read a book like this it just highlights all the positives for doing so.

One in a Million by Lindsay Kelk a five-star read that you will want to catch like a shooting star. I will be honest and admit I didn’t read anything about this book before I knew I needed to have it, I had read some other books by the author a while back and loved them so I knew as soon as I saw the name I had to have it, then I had readers remorse thinking will it be as good as I think it will be, will it live to the hype. I am so glad I did, it was way better than I thought. Annie Higgins, I adore you!!! What an amazing character, she will make you laugh and she will make you groan in frustration, but as you get to know her and learn her story you will love her. The other characters in the story play their parts Charlie, Martin, Miranda and Brian will all help to make the story deeper and Dr Samuel Page PhD (twice don’t you know, that just makes him all the more impressive) will keep you rolling with laughter. This story is one of love and acceptance of those around us as well as ourselves. Its funny and sweet and compelling in a way that you wont be able to put it down until you reach the last page.

One in a Million was a quick, humorous and fun read. It's a very current book, with the plot driven by the main character's job as a brand manager/advertiser/social media influencer. Annie is challenged to make the most unlikely man a social media sensation, and obviously, in the process they fall in love.

This was an enjoyable read at the time, but not one which had a lasting impact, so it's probably a perfect beach read.

I don't usually read books that set out to be humorous. This was an OK read, a remake of the Eliza Doolittle/ Professor Higgins story for the digital/social media age. I didn't really take to the character of Samuel especially towards the end of the book. It's quite a clean read with no sexual explicitness and not too much swearing. And it's overlong by about one hundred pages for this genre's usual offerings.

Fab read that made me laugh out loud. A modern take on My Fair lady that really is a cracking read. Annie is.a workaholic who really wants her digital marketing business to succeed so when she takes a bet with a friend that she can take anyone and make them “famous” on instagram this seems almost impossible when she meets Dr Samuel Page a historian who is very committed to writing history books and has little time for pop culture and even less time for Annie. Can she break through Sam’s barriers and find there is more to life than work.

This was a perfect early summer, happy easy read. The characters were all likeable and full of depth making it all the more fun to get swept up in the will she/won’t she love story

Lindsey Kelk is in top form with One In A Million, a charming and hilarious My fair lady for the twenty-first century. There are plenty of laugh out loud scenes in the book which ensures we fall in love with an all-new cast of characters in an irresistible story of a competitive web guru and her delightfully gruff makeover subject. Lindsey Kelk is tackling modern love like nobody else and it is this unique approach, plotting and narrative that makes her books so fabulous and totally addictive. This is a great holiday read that will have you laughing out loud. I was thoroughly disappointed when I finished it and realised I would no longer be able to live the characters lives through this wonderful narrative. I loved it!
Read it. You won't be disappointed.
