Not the best Sabrina Jeffries book but also not horrendous. I was a bit disappointed that Hart's story was only a novella and I didn't really feel a massive connection between the two characters. That being said, second chance romances are a difficult one to get right and this book didn't completely fail in it's aim. 2.5 stars.

I think I need to accept that Sabrina Jeffries is just not an author for me. Her synopses always draw me in, but then I end up disappointed.

This was a fun if predictable story that was an afternoon read on the back deck. I wasn't particularly enamoured of the lack of depth of the plot or characters but I was looking for a fluffy read, and that's what I got.

I could not get past the first couple of pages. The heroine is overly dramatic and jumps to conclusions that make absolutely no sense. Not Sabrina Jeffries's best work.

Hart and Lady Anne are the perfect couple. Too bad he jilted her years earlier. Ms. Jeffries puts seduction to work in this book. It shows what a man will go to for love. A great read. I hated for it to come to an end.

This novella is a quick, fun read. I received this novella as an ARC from the author. Sabrina Jeffries is one of my favorite authors. I don't know why, but I generally shy away from novellas and short stories. I don't even think I knew this was a novella before reading it. LOL. I confess, I haven't been able to keep up with the Sinful Suitors series, but you can enjoy this story as a stand-alone I think. I surely did.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry arrives at his brothers estate expecting a relaxing time with friends, hunting & fishing only to find his sister in law has invited lots of people including unmarried debutantes. Lady Anne is shocked when Captain Lord Hartley Corry, her former fiancé who left for India after her father forbade their marriage, arrives at the house party. He never fought for her hand or eloped with her as he promised. Hart is equally shocked to literally run into his past love upon arriving at his brother's house.
I’ve been waiting for Hart’s story for a while & although I thoroughly enjoyed the read, how I wish it had been a full length novel not a novella, I wanted more. I love the author’s books & the whole Sinful Suitors series has been delightful it was a shame it finished with a short story. Don’t get me wrong the characters were well rounded & the story flowed very well I just wanted to be able to prolong the final instalment. This was a lovely read of second chances, both Hart & Anne had never loved anyone else but had been torn apart at an early age & now eleven years later Anne especially wonders if she can trust Hart.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Risk of Rogues is a novella in the Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jeffries. It can easily be read as a standalone story.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry (Hart) was very much in love with his sweetheart, Anne, several years ago. Her father didn't want them to marry, so they talked about eloping together. Before they had a chance to do just that, Hart joined the army and went to India without even saying goodbye to Anne.

In the time that he was away, Hart wrote to Anne many times but she never answered his letters. He still loved her, was very hurt by her but guessed that she must have moved on and had married somebody else. Although he never stopped loving her, he didn't look too hard for her when he returned to England, so convinced was he that she had married another.

Hart was invited to a house party his brother was throwing, and it was to his complete shock that he saw Anne there too. He had been correct, she had remarried, and she has gone from being just a merchant's daughter to a Lady, a widowed one at that.

When Anne and Hart see each other again sparks fly. They are both hurting after what they see as a betrayal from each other. Anne thinks he left and didn't care enough about her to even keep in touch. Hart thinks she didn't care enough about him to answer his letters, and then, of course, she married another man! Despite the feelings of hurt, the instant they set eyes on each other the lust was still there. Dare I say love too, although each hated to admit it to themselves.

Can our couple have a second chance at love, will they get the other to understand what happened in the past, and will they be able to trust each other enough again to give in to their feelings for each other?

Although this was a short story which easily could have been expanded on, there was enough time to make their reunion believable. I thoroughly enjoyed reading as their story unfolded and they realised that neither of them had betrayed the other. I also loved reading about Anne's love of hats and the creations she came up with! That's something novel that I haven't come across before in the many historical romances that I have read! All in all, this was a fun, sexy, romance that I fully enjoyed and recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book.

Kept from marrying by both sets of parents, Lady Anne Barkley and Captain Lord Hartley (Hart) Corry meet after 11 years. He had assumed after his father bought him s commission and sent him off to India for 5 years that Anne had married, as he could not find her. Anne had not heard from him as her father intercepted letters from Hart and dismissed the maid who had helped pass letters. Anne assumed that Hart had never really cared for her, else he would have found some way to communicate with her.
Meeting at his brother’s country home, each has questions for which they want answers, hurt feelings that need soothing, and opportunity to see if they still suited. This story evolves from this meeting. The ups and downs of their resolving their concerns fills out the story. There is a HEA ending. I enjoyed this Regency Era Romance, and found the story compelling reading.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Yes! This is Hart's story! We've seen him in previous Sinful Suitors books. I was always wondering about him. He wanted to become a spy but his background was minimal. He seemed like a decent guy! And he is! This story is about his unforgettable love, Anne, who ruined him for any other woman. This is a tale of misunderstanding, manipulative parents, and past broken hearts. It was wonderful!! Sabrina Jeffries delivers a well written story that always pleases the heart, or in this case, Hart! A perfect end for the Sinful Suitors!

This novella is the second chance story of Anne and Hart who fell in love many years earlier and wanted to marry but both fathers, for their own reasons, separate them and prevent communication between them. This long separation leaves doubts when they meet again. This lighthearted tale is an enjoyable, quick read.

First of all, i detest stories where the hero/heroine has been parted for years. I felt this story might have benefited from more insight into the relationship when they were younger and he left. He did not come across as a hero to me and the heroine wasn't very interesting. I would recommend only if you are just looking for something quick to read.

There are times Anne can see through Hart's distractions, “no!” She shoved him away. “You will not kiss the questions out of me! This is important.” Hart sometimes just has to take action, “enough thinking.” Then he covered her mouth with his, and she knew her time for deciding was done." This was such a quick and fun read.

I discovered Sabrina Jeffries a number of years ago & truly enjoy her books. I don't usually read novellas but took a chance on this one. I'm glad that I did. Ann & Hart lost each other years ago. They reunited after meeting up at a ball thrown by Hart's cousin. This was a sweet way to read about a second chance at love.

Sabrina Jeffries' romances have the best mix of plot, humor and heat. We always buy her for our library.

The Risk of Rogues is a very satisfying novella. It is a second chance at love story. Anne and Hart were in love as young people but both of their fathers opposed the match. Hart's father opposed it so violently he purchased Hart a commission in the army and sent him off to India the following day. Hart wrote Anne, explaining and asking her to wait for him. Anne's father intercepted the letters and led her to believe that Hart was a rogue not to be trusted. Ten years later their paths cross. Hart still wants her. Anne wants him but is afraid of his reputation as a gambler and a womanizer. Hart embarks on a "re-courtship" to win her trust. Anne interviews everyone who knows him to get the true picture of her suitor. It is a quick and pleasant read.

I received The Rick of Rogues by Sabrina Jeffries from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. This is a novella and the latest of her Sinful Suitors series. It can be read as stand alone but this series is so wonderful, it's worth reading all of the books in the series
A second chance love story about Captain Lord Hartley (Hart) Corry and Lady Anne Barkley. Both are surprised to find themselves at the same house party and Hart begins a "re-courtship." Lady Anne is more cautious about everything but is unable to suppress her feelings in the end. A wonderful novella that goes into just enough depth of their past relationship to answer questions. Hart comes off in the public eyes as a devil may care person without responsibility and has to prove to Lady Anne he is indeed responsible and mature. Delightful and charming, I always enjoy Sabrina Jeffries' stories. #TheRiskofRogues #NetGalley

Rogues are risky, aren't they? Lady Anne runs into her former suitor upon his return to England and he acts as if nothing ever happened. Could she have meant so little to him? Will he fight for her hand a second time? Can he trust her with the secret he is holding? Much romance and drama unfold in this delightful story from Sabrina Jeffries.

The book centres on the rekindled love between Miss Anne Barkley and Captain Lord Hartley Corry. I read all of Sabrina Jeffries books so I was genuinely excited to read this novella but I am sad to say that it just did not live up to her normal standard.

For me, the story seemed rushed and the characters never really had a chance to shine. A huge amount of back history and emotional build up seems to be missing. Worth a quick read but not one of SB’s best.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

Very cute, characters and story alike. A couple separated by circumstances beyond their control (with perhaps a little foolishness and a few misunderstandings thrown in, of course) reunite years later, older and wiser, each with their own insecurities. One has trust issues, the other a secret he can’t share. They never stopped loving one another but can they figure out how to navigate the consequences of their past mistakes and present assumptions to come together again and make it work?

It’s always refreshing to have a truly upstanding, respectful, vulnerable, egalitarian (if somewhat anachronistic) hero. Both the h&h had rather modern sensibilities when it came to their more intimate moments, but as a modern reader that bit of straying from period-accuracy doesn’t bother me. A quick, delightful read!
