Short and sweet, this delightful novella is a second chance tale of Lady Anne and her long lost love, Hart. Several long years after her father denied Hart’s request for Anne’s hand in marriage, the two meet at a house party of Hart’s older brother and wife. It’s there Hart decides he will again attempt to woo Anne into marriage, but Anne needs a few guarantees. What better way to begin than with some kisses?
This is a fun tale and a fitting piece to a wonderful series I recommend to readers of historical romance.

Historical Romance

Hatton Hall, Shropshire, England, 19th Century

Captain Lord Hartley Corry arrives to visit his brother Warren, the Marquess of Knightford, at his estate in Shropshire believing it a men’s hunting, cards and drinking event. Upon his arrival he finds a ballroom full of guests. His sister-in-law Delia greets him and tells him she had to remind Warren it was the week of St. Valentine’s Day, and that all of his friends were married. Then Hartley comes face-to-face with the only woman he ever loved and loves still, Miss Anne Barkley, now Lady Barkley. How did she become a lady? Nine years ago, when he had asked her father for Anne’s hand in marriage, the wealthy merchant had refused his offer. Hartley believes it was because he was a second son, even though he was studying and working to become a barrister. For the last four years he has worked as a spy for England’s former spymaster, Lord Fulkham, who has just become the new foreign secretary. Anne, though, believes Hartley to be a gambling womanizer who abandoned her. Hartley makes it his mission to change her mind.

The situation between these two unusual characters is fraught with doubt and misinformation. Anne questions Hartley’s motives and accuses him of rebelliousness. He calls her stubborn. Older now, both want to discover what they missed in each other’s character as an impetuous younger couple. They both had been naïve. Do they have any hope for a future together? It is a fun and quick read.

A quick fun read about reunited lovers that takes some twists and turns before reaching its satisfying conclusion. Loved the characters of Lady Anne and Captain Hart, but wish the story had been just a bit longer to fill in some of the missing pieces of their earlier romance but overall, for a novella, it was a great read.

I’m generally a big fan of Ms. Jeffries work, having read about 90% of her catalog. Though I don’t usually enjoy novellas, I was excited to read this knowing she was the author. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book. The characters seemed to breeze through a tremendous amount of history and emotion. And our heroine is in her 30’s and has a predilection for enormous, comical, clownish hats, udingbthem to hide her red hair - I have a hard time forgiving a lack of taste or self acceptance.

The Risk of Rogues is not one of Ms. Jeffries' best books but still very much enjoyable (at least in my opinion). I love second chance romances and this one was very sweet. Overall the romance was good and I liked the plot I just wish the book was a little longer. This was a very short novella and I feel like it could benefit a lot if it was another hundred pages longer and we could find out more about Anne and Hart and what makes them tick. Hart makes (or has made in the past) some mistakes that may have been forgiven a little to easily and quickly in my opinion, but if you get past that it keeps you entertained. Overall it's a sweet story, there's nothing that particularly stands out as extraordinary though in positive or negative way, but with the likeable characters, it makes for a cute and quick read. Recommended.

My primary criticism of this work is that it was too short - it felt more rushed than some historical romance novellas I've read in the past. I would have liked to learn more about the hero and heroine, especially the hero - his characterization felt a bit more simple than I'm used to getting from Jeffries.

This was an entertaining little story, with a charming H and delightful h , with great chemistry and passion. It’s a very quick read, really just a novella. Sabrina Jeffries is always a reliable go to for a great romance. I’ve never read one from her that wasn’t good.

Meh. I didn't realize this was a short story. I didn't feel like I get to know the characters at all. The story felt very rushed and unbelievably paced. They loved each other in the past, were separated for 10 or 11 years, then they're back together and all the magic is still there? It might have been more believable if it had been a year or two. Some anger and hurt feelings are easily overcome. A little conflict is easily resolved. Ho hum. Thank goodness the book was so short.

💋💋
A wonderful lighthearted, second chance Romance , set at a house party , that has a HEA , what more could you possibly want .
This is a short read , around 2hrs for me but I read quite quickly.
This one I loved ,
They love each other
They want to be together
Parents stopped them last time
Now pride and lack of trust stand in their way
I enjoy Sabrina’s way of writing, I found this one light on the angst, which was great, but heavy on the entertainment , also great .
Perfect bedtime reading
I received an advanced copy of this book and chose to submit a review

Fun fast paced novella. Lady Anne and Captain Hart finally meet again after 10 years. Is the passion still there? What about the trust? It's a quick read but great for summer fun.

An entertaining but unfortunately an essentially forgettable read. Disappointing as this is normally one of my favorite romance writers.

This is a fast-paced, fun, light-hearted read, that will keep you wanting more. It's perfect for beach days.

Just keep in mind that it's a novella, so the author will not go into great depth on the characters back stories.

Sabrina Jeffries "The Risk of Rogues" was a fun quick read! Lady Anne and Captain Hart haven't seen each other in ten years and have a lot of catching up to do. However, they quickly discover their feelings haven't changed. Wonderful. Looking forward to reading more from Sabrina!

This was a sweet, fun novella that wraps up the Sinful Suitors series. It’s a second chance romance between Hart and Anne, who are connected to characters we’ve met previously in the series. I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces pop up in this story, but this novella will make sense if you have never read anything else in the series. It’s a novella, so things are very fast paced, but thoroughly enjoyable. I really loved this one.

This is Hart and Anne’s story. He loved her when she was 16. Her father would not let him marry her. Neither would his. His father bought him a commission in the army. He has found her again. There’s are many misunderstandings. They finally understand each other. It was a great short read

I thought this was a super sweet and light novella that I’m glad I found! A couple years back, I found out about Sabrina Jeffries’s historical romances and they’ve mostly been a hit. I’m glad to say that this latest installation is the same. THE RISK OF ROGUES follows Lady Anne and Lord Hartley’s second chance romance as Anne decides she won’t be burned again and Hartley chases after the woman of his dreams.

“‘Do you want to know why I’m considered a confirmed bachelor? Because you were the only woman I’ve ever wanted to marry. Once there was no YOU…’”

I enjoyed both characters’ POV’s and finding out what their motives and reasonings for certain actions were. Anne’s father disapproved of Hartley and thought he was a fortune hunter, and instead of fighting for their love, Hartley ran off to the army. What Anne didn’t know, however, is that Hartley’s father also disapproved of their marriage and threatened to cut him off, so he went to the army to make money and earn his place in life. Now that they’re reunited, Hartley wants to do everything to gain Anne back while Anne tries to resist him.

There’s a push and pull element, sure, but I do think Hartley does a good grovel for leaving without word. I liked how Anne stood up for herself against him and overall it was a short and flirty historical romance (with some heavily anachronistic scenes). Because it was a novella though, I couldn’t get that invested into it. Still recommended for historical romance readers, especially if you follow this series!

This had a good storyline but I thought it was to short. Liked the main characters but could have elaborated on the story.

This was a sweet, shirt read that was well-written. However, I like my romances with a little heat so this was a little boring for me. Also, I felt Anne was a little too shrewish for me. I get that she was hurt, but thought she should have moved past it once he explained what happened. This wasn't a bad read, it just wasn't for me.

I really enjoyed this book, which I have to say I was surprised. I don't usually shorts, or Novella
as they don't have time for a full story. Not the case with The Risk of Rogues. is part of the Sinful Suitors
and as such has just as much mystery, and intrigue. Am a sucker for lost live and 2nd chances. This is what
Captain Hartley Corry and Lady Anna Barkley found , both have misgivings as to why the other either left without
saying goodbye or why one's letters were never answered., Winning trust and love the 2nd time does not come easy to these two but the road to get there is a good story... do give it a try for a short its wonderful

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!
This novel was a good ready. Several years ago, Lady Anne and Captain Hartley Corry fell in love and had plans to elope. However, both of their fathers were against the match, Hart being a second son and Anne at the time a merchant’s daughter. Both had preconceived notions about what happened, Anne being angry at Hart for leaving without telling her and Hart not knowing why Anne never replied to his letters. Both meet again and sparks fly, but Anne is still angry with him. Hart is a spy and cannot tell Anne unless she plans on being his wife. Hart has a plan and will recourt Anne. Anne is stubborn and is scared to let Hart have her heart again. Will both be able to accept the person each has become, knowing that the love they had all those years ago still exists as well as a small part of who they both used to be?
