This was a psychological thriller all about a woman that is pregnant, she has an accident which brings on labour and has to have an emergency c-section. When she comes around all groggy she is convinced the baby in front of her is not hers.
Family try to reassure her that mistakes don't happen like that anymore. Due to family history she gets admitted to new mothers psych ward.
This was interesting and a good psychological thriller I have never read something like this before.

Mine is a dark and chilling psychological thriller. A young mother shortly after giving birth is convinced her new baby has been switched with another child. The story will keep the reader guessing til the end.

Dr. Sasha Maloney gives birth prematurely by caesarian after a car crash. The one problem is that Sasha refuses to believe that the baby is hers. Is there any truth in Sasha's claims or is she in the grips of postnatal depression?

For any mother, this would be the worst ever nightmare and it is a gripping and chilling psychological thriller which had me reading all night. The author has a talent for making the reader root for the main character but doubt them at the same time! Sometimes books stay with you for a long time, this is one of them.

I could not put this down! Once I started reading, I had to know the answer about the baby. I particularly liked how the medical knowledge of the author was used, as it made it feel much more realistic and enjoyable as a read. It was a really enjoyable thriller.

The book was fast paced and I enjoyed the chapters showing the different views from the husband and wife.
The story got a bit confusing when the main character is talking about all the different baby names and the characters get a bit jumbled. I didn’t see the ending coming but then again so many different things were happening, I had no clue how it would end.

Firstly I would like to thank Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this read in exchange for a honest review.

"After waking from an emergency caesarean, you're dying to see your new baby. But when you're introduced something is wrong. This is not your child. The nurses assure you that the baby is yours. Your husband believes them. And so does your father. But how can you be so wrong? You're a doctor. You know how easily mistakes are made. When everyone is against you, do you trust your instincts? You know only one thing... you must find your baby"

This one terrified me. I'm not even a parent but I felt the main character's fear and desperation to find her child. This truly heart-stopping read really digs deep into the dark fears that every mother dreads - failure, mental illness, and disturbing thoughts. I found myself racing through this book, constantly guessing what was gonna happen next.

Although I do think that the story is a tad unbelievable at times and there are quite a few things that could of been done so the main character didn't have to go through what she did, I still found this read to be compelling, dark and claustrophobic, and is one that I definitely recommend! (Maybe not to new mothers though).

Mine has an interesting, albeit disturbing plot, playing on the fear of mothers who just gave birth – being given the wrong baby after birth. It immediately held my interest from the first page as we are immediately presented with Sasha’s predicament. I was keen to know what’s going on. Instantly, I sympathized with Sasha and feel her frustrations at being dismissed by people who are supposed to take her side. It slowed down after the initial excitement and became repetitive as Sasha find ways to prove that Toby is not her son. Told in past and present by Sasha and occasionally her husband, Mark’s perspective, we get to examine the couple’s relationship and how each experience seems to affect how they deal with their problems. I like how as details started to unravel, I came to doubt Sasha’s claim, too. Her view on what makes a good mother is thought-provoking. Although it was an engaging read, I had a hard time fully connecting with any of the characters. The ending may come as surprising but it fell a little flat to me, it also feels rushed and far-fetched. Overall though, it’s a solid, well-written debut. Unsettling yet something different.

A Mother’s intuition is always right!....isn’t it?
I think this book was really good not as creepy as the front cover suggests but I think it centred on mental health more than anything...still made for a good read.

Sasha is expecting a longed for baby, a girl. After a minor car accident, she goes into premature labour and has an emergency c-section. On waking she knows instantly something isn't right. Her suspicions grow as she's told she has had a boy and although she knows scans are not 100% accurate something rankles. When she is presented with her baby she instantly knows this is not her child. But no one will believe her. As her family and medical professionals, close ranks on her paranoia grows. Is she right or is she experiencing some sort of postpartum psychosis?
I devoured this. Sensitively written, with strong characters it kept me guessing throughout. I really was not sure what the outcome would be until the final reveal. Rare and much appreciated for someone that reads a lot of thrillers! And I'm not ashamed to say that this didn't only have me scratching my head but also provoked many tears. Highly recommended

Every Mother knows their own baby, don’t they?

Sasha wakes up after a caesarean section and demands to see her child. After a long while, she is taken to him, and it’s somebody else’s child! She is a Doctor so surely she would know her own child, but this is a girl, and Sasha was convinced she was having a boy.

Why the strange looks from the hospital staff and where is her husband? Things are not right, she is even in the wrong hospital.

Is she losing her mind or is there a dark conspiracy afoot which will send her to the edge of her sanity and perhaps topple her over?

A very controversial story, dealing with Post-Partum depression and the agony of someone who is going through it.

The book was an excellent read and kept me intrigued all the way through. I swung from conspiracy to depression on every page. It is a complicated subject to read, but it was written compassionately.

A good book, my only gripe being that it was a little repetitive in the first part of the book.

As a debut book this is really great.
Sasha has had years of infertility, gets pregnant, has an accident and the baby is born early. Not the fairy tae birth that every mother has in their mind.
When she eventually meets her baby she doesn't believe he is hers.
So is he?
The book focuses on this, the effects of long term infertility and its effects on relationships. Also the power of the healthcare profession and how scarily your control and sanity can be questioned.
A real page turner which has you doubting, believing and suspicious in equal measure.
The ending is a twist and despite other reviewers comments,I feel is believable in the circumstances.
The interplay between different characters is also well written and has you suspecting everyone.

Oh my wowzers what a book (yes, this is kind of a flurry of gushy reviews, and there’s still a fair few to come, sorry about that!)!

This is the story of Dr Sasha Moloney, who wakes up after an emergency cesarean to find her baby gone . Only (phew) he’s in the nursery so wait a minute we’ll bring you up. So she waits and waits and already you know know know that this book is one that has you so hooked that your poor stomach will not be able to unclench until it’s fully over.

When Dr Moloney finally meets her child she’s shocked at how sure she is that the child isn’t hers. From the start I was rooting for Sasha, and indignant that, as expected, she was being told that she just wasn’t bonding. When this didn’t settle with her there were hints that her own mother had issues and we soon began to wonder where exactly her mother was (actually this part for me was as important as the baby, as I worried over where she might be now and wondered what it had to do with Mark and Sasha).

I was fully ready to fight for Sasha but then every so often the author expertly made you wonder about her, perhaps it was this all in her head. There was a chance people were just trying to do the right thing for her by keeping her away from other mothers and babies by putting her in the basement with some other mothers who may have believed her but who had their own issues (one in particular broke my heart, I adored her but got that sinking feeling every time she sided with Sasha).

This book is made up of alternating timelines, with her husband Mark’s story being told (I had my ups and downs with him let me tell you!!), as well as getting said insight into Sasha’s mother.

The entire cast of characters were real and flawed, with actions that were perhaps warranted in places, not in others in terms of their perceived cruelty, i.e. you couldn’t tell when it was cruel to be kind or when it was just that the job/ issues had hardened them. As for pacing there was always something to make you sit up straighter, and I savoured the race to the point where all would be unearthed and we came to the ‘is she crazy or not’ point. All in all one I will be recommending and remembering for some time to come!

Thanks so much to Penguin and Netgalley for this book in return for an honest review.

Sasha has just woken up after being given a general anaesthetic for an emergency cesarean - but her baby is not with her. When she finally gets to see her baby she is convinced that he is not her child - her accusations of a baby swap in the hospital end up with her being admitted to the psychiatric ward. To be honest I struggled with this book - didn’t really get into it until the last third. Couldn’t connect with Sasha’s character at all and found some parts very repetitive. Thanks to Netgalley and Michael Joseph for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

I was in two minds whether to go for this book or not as I have children, but as I'm not having any more I went for yes!
This is a beautifully written, gripping story that is twisty and full of suspense. Perfect debut novel.
Will be looking out for more from Susi!
Thank you for the advanced reading opportunity.

An enjoyable read. Is Sasha like her Mum, is she going mad, or is she right and someone has swapped her baby. It’s an emotional rollercoaster for the main characters, who is on her side, who can Sasha trust. The only thing that let it down was the ending. I feel after the way the story was told, the ending was a little abrupt. Still a good read though.

Once I got past the unsettling descriptive passages early in the book this was actually a very good read. I would suggest if you are a sensitive soul who is moved by description of premature labour you might want to start the book on a day when you are feeling mentally strong. On my first read I didn’t want to continue but that’s definitely more a reflection of my mood at the time than on the author’s writing skills. Overall, it’s a gripping read with a modern, appealing front cover. Thanks for NetGalley and Penguin UK for the e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Mine.
A new mother convinced the baby she has been given is not really hers or is there something wrong with her.
Great twists, I read this book in a day, I could not put it down.

Sasha wakes up alone after an emergency caesarean, dying to see her child. She has an overwhelming instinct that the baby is not hers but no one believes her...

I gave this 3/4 stars. It started off very intriguing and I was keen to find out whether the baby was in fact Sasha's or whether everyone was conspiring against her. It was an engaging enough read which held my attention and had quite a few twists and turns. Some of it was quite hard to believe though and it started to get a bit repetitive.. I can't now fully remember the ending, despite finishing the book only last month, so perhaps not that memorable. I wouldn't really say it was a psychological thriller.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing a copy in return for my honest opinion. I have shared this review on Goodreads.

This is a modern thriller which moved at a steady pace and had a satisfying ending. Sasha believes that her new born son, Toby, is not hers. She is convinced that her baby has been swapped. is she delusional or is there some truth in her accusations? Read on!

Gripping, enthralling read. Difficult subject, but handled sensitively, and powers through to a stunning conclusion.
